Kyle Kishimoto

they traded all their depth for a reliever who failed to record an out today
Ben Clemens
6:24
Vierling leading off on opening day was somehow both an indictment of the Tigers and Phillies

At like 8 am I went to the BMV to get my drivers license renewed, went to Dunkin Donuts, and went to the grocery store to pick some things up, and like 75% of the people I saw at all these places had Reds gear on, for what that’s worth. :]

Watching Volpe.. I don't understand the concerns about him not being a SS? I don't think he's a gold glover, but he's a big league SS for sure.
Ben Clemens
6:26
I think a lot of it is his arm, which can be hard to judge in a game or two. But I generally agree with you, 'x guy can't work at short' is overused in talent evaluation in my eyes. Corey Seager is still playing it

Richard Keith "Stubby" Clapp. I suppose that's better than Dick.
Kyle Kishimoto
6:26
i wonder what age he was when he started going by stubby

Wasn't it the Reds owner who said "where else are the fans going to go" [paraphrased]?
Ben Clemens
6:27
I believe it was the owner's son
Kyle Kishimoto
6:27
rob "scrabble" zastryzny in the game for pittsburgh!
Jasper
6:27
Probably from birth: Clapp is "Stubby the Third", a nickname passed on from his father (Keith Ezra "Stubby II" Clapp) and grandfather (David Ezra Oscar "Stubby" Clapp).

I don't think it can be "scrabble" if there's two z's.  No one uses the blank as a z

Re: not being able to judge someone's arm in a game or two: I watched IKF for one game and I knew he had a noodle arm..
Ben Clemens
6:29
Weirdly that wasn't always the case. They made him a catcher at one point even. I'd be curious to know what is going on there
Kyle Kishimoto
6:29
it's really hard to evaluate the finer points of defense by watching broadcasts esp since you don't get the first few steps of their route to the ball

I refuse to believe there has ever been a person named Stubby Clapp who didn't work in baseball. Must be quite the family legacy I will not be looking this up.
Ben Clemens
6:30
Agreed

Rob Zastryzny is another Canadian ballplayer, from Edmonton, the city I’m chatting from!

B'ryce. Try my set up. 3 TV's, one is dedicated to the Red Sox game, now Mets, the second has Extra Innings with 6 games, only 5 now and I have MLB-TV on the desktop with a 23' inch monitor which I use if needed, but the computer is tied up to the chat now.

Peak Andrelton Simmons is the exception.  It was very easy to tell he was an amazing defender.
Ben Clemens
6:31
I have high hopes for Masyn Winn as the next Simmons
6:32
From a big arm, smooth actions standpoint
the plays where Simmons would just turn and fire from a position where you can't figure out how his feet were set are my favorite
Prototypical TBS Kid
6:32
Andrelton's range despite not being "fast" was amazing
Kyle Kishimoto
6:32
yeah he must have like, the greatest reaction time of all time
Ben Clemens
6:33
He just saw what was happening, too. He had a lot of highlights that were like 'oh there's a play going on at second but he somehow cuts it off and throws someone out at another base'

Where are Winn's offensive ceiling comps?
Ben Clemens
6:34
Our prospect team could give you a better answer, but my ceiling is Francisco Lindor

When I was in Dunkin Donuts, there was a mom with two little kids, and they were fully decked out. Face stickers, jerseys, accessories. The whole thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were going to the Reds game. They definitely should’ve been in school lol. They have a cool mom I guess. :]
Ben Clemens
6:35
The Reds don't deserve Cincy fans
Kyle Kishimoto
6:35
80 grade mom there

Any chance Jasson Dominguez is in the bronx this summer or fall? He's just 20 but destroyed A+ after missing a whole year of development and the Yankees look like they'll need a new LF at some point.
Ben Clemens
6:37
It's gonna depend on how he hits in the minors, to state the obvious. Like, if he's tearing Double-A apart and Oswaldo Cabrera looks bad, I think they'd consider it
I don't really know how to turn that into a probability estimate though
Ben Clemens
6:37
Friends, is it bad to bring in your lefty specialist to let two lefties reach base, bringing up the RHH reigning MVP?
Kyle Kishimoto
6:38
the RHH reigning MVP who had a bonds-like slashline against LHP last season

Extremely weird bullpen management, they’re on their fourth pitcher of the day when two of those pitchers had one very low-stress inning
Kyle Kishimoto
6:40
both had 2 ups
