Right. And I love a fun arm angle.
Man, lots of foul tips into the catchers' faces. I do not love it.

See I love watching Kevin Gausman pitch because it's just like an endless coin flip
Davy Andrews
7:02
I also think splitters are just fun to watch.

Who is the most surprising (in the abstract, so discounting matchups, injuries, etc.) player to be in a starting lineup today? And how is it not Nate Eaton?
Davy Andrews
7:02
Ralph submitted this 20 minutes ago. Props.

7:02
maybe we don't need Nate eaton to pitch
Davy Andrews
7:02
Strongly disagree.
Phil

Eaton and Sogard leading the offense.
Davy Andrews
7:03
That's how you draw it up.

But fouling it back is usually referred to as just missed and that's almost missing the entire ball. Sam Miller said something once about how it was about the angle - you don't call grounders just missing even if you square it up into the dirt. It's about being under the ball and hitting it with the fat part of the bat
Davy Andrews
7:04
Sure, but that's about timing. Usually, what people say about that is some variation of, "He was right on it." There's more than one way to just miss it.
Ben Clemens
7:04
I do agree that it has to be in the air, though
so maybe it's a combination of in the air and hit square but not fully square
7:05
Do you guys think that Max Fried has never fist pumped before?
Davy Andrews
7:05
I disagree! I think you can pound it into the ground because you were just a little bit early. That may be something that you feel as a hitter and is a little harder to see as a spectator.
Ben Clemens
7:05
that had real baby giraffe energy
Davy Andrews
7:06
It's never too late to learn.

That ESPN mic is hanging on for dear life
Davy Andrews
7:06
Is everyone else hearing constant crackling?
Ben Clemens
7:06
yeah, it's super annoying
Davy Andrews
7:07
I like to think the noise is just because Ravech and Perez are sharing a big bag of peanuts.
Ben Clemens
7:07
it's the spotters running back and forth to them with notes stepping on the shells

Why does Baseball Savant use "ST" to abbreviate "sweeper"?
Ben Clemens
7:08
I don't know but I doooooo not like
Welland Jackfish
7:09
in the earlier game we celebrated more people getting to hear the orioles broadcast team- who should replace ravech and perez to get more national exposure?
Ben Clemens
7:09
just a quick note that yeah, more Ben McDonald please
7:10
Honestly, I think that the average booth has gotten pretty great
I very rarely listen to a game these days and go 'ugh, these guys?'
there are a few, but I won't name names. Mostly, though, I think that around 20 booths would be great doing this

Per Tom Tango - From Tom Tango:
"In the backlog was a Slider/Cutter (ST) and Slider/Curve (SV). Those were around for years. Ideally, we would have had SW already in the backlog. Rather than create a new code, we activated an existing one."
Ben Clemens
7:11
Hear me out - just do a post-processing pass on this. The code is ST in the database but it shows to us plebs as SW. I mean, I don't find this a huge issue b/c the only people nerdy enough to be in the data files are the ones who can figure it out, but it just seems like low-hanging fruit
Davy Andrews
7:10
I totally agree. I avoid a lot fewer booths than I used to.

I published this even though I do not know what it means. Probably shouldn't get in the habit of doing that.

now that it is commercial time, when will you guys start watching hockey
Davy Andrews
7:12
I would love to get into hockey, but it has not happened yet.
Ben Clemens
7:13
Hey guys, now that we're at a commercial break, Davy and I have two copies of OOTP26 to give away, one each, and I'd like to give mine to the person who comes up with the best (family-friendly) nickname for a player in the playoffs
