Can I continue my crusade of anger at the standard camera angle for making backdoor sliders/cutters look like whatever instead of awesome pitches
Ben Clemens
6:48
YES
Davy and I are both among the FG writers most likely to agree with you on this
or at least, I think. I love to be a camera angle nerd, and CF is way better than this nonsense offset
the only advantage of the offset is that it can be zoomed in more, but ESPN isn't even doing that, they're leaving it wide to capture more ads
Davy Andrews
6:49
I totally agree -- watching the pitch move is truly one of the best things about baseball -- but I would also note that there isn't really a perfect camera angle.
Ben Clemens
6:49
My favorite is the slightly up high CF camera
it's not perfect but like, it's pretty good
Davy Andrews
6:51
Yeah, but I also find the aesthetics of the Globe Life Field angle really unpalatable for some reason.
Ben Clemens
6:51
I think that might ahve to do with the stadium
but it's true, nothing's perfect
Davy Andrews
6:51
I'm sure it is.
Ben Clemens
6:51
I just hate when righty breaking balls look bad
Colton
6:51
I liked the new angle in Cincy this year a lot

Second question on stadium aesthetics: Dark blue or dark green walls
Davy Andrews
6:53
That's a great question!
Bencle Mens
6:53
They should have two offset angles, depending on pitcher handedness
Davy Andrews
6:53
This sounds reasonable, but then you play Bases Loaded 4 and you realize that it's really jarring to move back and forth like that.

What is the definition of "just missed it"?  Is it the follow through? Is it the ball flight? Is it pitch location? Is it batter reaction? What % of each
Ben Clemens
6:54
My view is that it's basically just 'that was a good looking swing but the ball got popped up'
hit it but it doesn't go far? probably just missed it
Davy Andrews
6:54
Right. I suppose it could be any of those things for different people, but I definitely mean how the ball comes off the bat.
Bhaim Cloom
6:55
red sox lineup sure could use nolan arenado
Welland Jackfish
6:55
who had Paul Goldschmidt as a playoff leadoff hitter on their bingo card?
Davy Andrews
6:55
These two back to back really tickled me.
Ben Clemens
6:55
maybe you could measure it in something about squared up rate
Davy Andrews
6:55
Oh yeah, you totally could. Like 75 to 80% collision efficiency?
Ben Clemens
6:55
Yeah. I think that's close to what we're all saying
6:56
Boy that Fried changeup is amazing
Davy Andrews
6:56
I don't know. From this camera angle, it doesn't look like much...
Ben Clemens
6:56
:)
Look at that smooth Caballero glovework, I love it
Farhandrew Zaidman
6:57
ok I was just made aware of this absolutely unhinged Shohei use case scenario: he starts at P, goes 5 IP, transitions to DH, then comes BACK out in the 9th to close. Apparently, perfectly legal.
Ben Clemens
6:57
okay this might be crazier than the Pujols managerial news
that kind of implies that he could pitch the first 5, the 7th, and the 9th?
Davy Andrews
6:58
Is the goal here to see how fast you can get him back onto an operating table?
Davy Andrews
6:57
I take issue with Ravech saying Fried "induced" a groundball from Romy Gonzalez. Romy Gonzalez just hits the ball on the ground.

We are watching a master at work. This is a pitcher in the truest sense of the word, not just a guy who can throw it past everybody.
Colton
6:58
What's the list of most fun pitchers to watch? Fried has to be in the top 5 for me
Ben Clemens
6:59
Yeah, I like guys of this general style. Cris Sanchez, Logan Webb, Fried, honestly Skenes is so fun because he's a power pitcher who is also a command guy
