Do the Sox stretch Crochet to 7 if he has say 95 pitches through 6
Ben Clemens
7:46
I would attempt to, but only if I'd discussed it with him first
Honestly, Im almost positive he'd want to

If Boston is losing they should probably stretch Crochet and save their leverage arms, if they're winning you might go to Whitlock (I assume)

Can't imagine an ace not wanting to stay in his first playoff game, especially with the rivalry
Ben Clemens
7:47
Yeah, I think he should just stay in

did the mlb.com stringer call it right that caballero flied out SHARPLY? Did I read an article on that earlier this year?
Ben Clemens
7:47
as I understand it, sharply means 100mph+
But that one was sharp, 105 to the wall
Phil
7:47
Crochet is not going to want to come out, and he's a lot bigger than Cora.
Ben Clemens
7:47
now i LOVE that

do you know how teams leverage stat cast data to evaluate whether the pitcher is tired?
Ben Clemens
7:49
I don't know the particulars, but I know that you can use it to look at movement and velo
you may be able to link it up with stuff they already have about intent and location
like, they should theoretically have more data than I do, because they know what was supposed to happen

would mlb website ever do native EV/launch angle/ distance in the gameday text?
Ben Clemens
7:49
it's tehre, ish
if you click on the play

When the ABS system is introduced it's going to be really interesting to see which hitters have the green light to challenge and which hitters do not. My Jays prediction: green light, Alejandro Kirk. Red light? Vlad Jr. He'll use both challenges in his first at bat every game because he's too exuberant.
Ben Clemens
7:50
I'm very excited to see this
I also really want to know who's good
Luckily, Tango is also very intersted in this and I'm certain that Statcast will have a leaderboard ready

Crochet got his extension, so he’s presumably willing to pitch in the playoffs now.
Ben Clemens
7:52
I mean, I supported his decision last year
and I think that he has always said he wants to pitch as long as he can
like, he could have easily asked for more load management htis year, the Sox would have agreed to protect their investment
but he wants to pitch

The only prediction I have about ABS challenges is that some team is going to get busted after a few years for using some kind of communication system from a replay room that tells a hitter when to challenge
Ben Clemens
7:52
ooh, this is a good prediction
7:53
but I do wonder if they'll remove the boxes on TV broadcasts
RTJ
7:53
when will riders stop sliding into first when there is a foot race
Ben Clemens
7:53
I mean.... probably never. I think it's just instinctual
It's not always wrong, it's just most always wrong
Guest
7:54
i think they are planning to remove the boxes for that reason
Ben Clemens
7:54
great news
Dirt

Diving in like that also helps avoid a collision

7:54
sliding into first might not be faster but it certainly *feels* faster

"Not a bad postseason debut for Max Fried" yeah I guess if you don't count his 67 innings in the postseason over the last decade

old story, can't verify: Bill Klem told a pitcher "When you throw a strike, Mr. Hornsby will let you know"
