Just subscribed to the newsletter; is there any way to get 'back copies' of what i missed? Would hate to have missed out on a piece from the ball in play series by Tony Blengino for example.

That's something I need to look into. Will let you know.

I don't think I've ever seen a hitter have such extraordinary plate discipline while simultaneously swinging and missing at as many strikes as Kris Bryant. Have you guys ever seen a hitter like that before?
Paul Swydan
9:30
I was tempted to say Mark McGwire, but he didn't strike out THAT much.

I have listened to cistulli's podcast 3 times now. Does he realize how funny he is?
Paul Swydan
9:32
I think deep down he does, but he would never admit as much publicly.
He's basically a better version of Rob Deer and Russell Branyan.
Stanton is on there too.

I voted for Outkast because "bombs over baghdad" is almost a baseball reference
Paul Swydan
9:34
Hah. Almost.
I'm happy that the category with the most votes isn't "I don't know who any of these groups are."

Gotta be outkast for the second poll. Hey Yaaaaa!!!! Hey Yaaaaaa!!!!!

in 5 years, who will be the best player in baseball?
Paul Swydan
9:34
Correa would be my guess, though it could still be Mike Trout or Bryce Harper.

Why is everyone taking it as a given that the A's will finish in last in the AL?
Paul Swydan
9:35
Well, because they more or less sat out the offseason, and they weren't very good last year.
I don't take it as a given though. I think the Angels could be worse than them. They're basically a Trout injury from being a 60-win team.

12 team 8 player AL only auction . I have Britton ad my only closer. Would you grab another closer or spend the money on another starter or hitting ? Closers will go more 10/15 or more
Paul Swydan
9:36
You probably need to have 2 closers. If you don't want to spend the $, you could always try to go the speculation market and load up on setup guys.

Pau, you've done a great job seeking and adding female writers on hbt. Do you know why there are no woman fantasy baseball writers?
Paul Swydan
9:37
Well, I don't think that is true. I'm sure they are out there. We just have to do a better job of finding them. I know this is a point of emphasis for Eno.

Should I continue watching Verlander's no-hitter or the O.J. Simpson show season finale?
Paul Swydan
9:38
Well, they'll probably re-run the finale at some point later tonight, so the no-hitter.
9:39
Although, it looks like Miami has 3 runs now, so maybe I should have checked that before answering the question. My bad!

is longo anything other than a league average/slightly above average player now? any hope he can return to 08-11/13 levels of play?
Paul Swydan
9:40
He's been at least at 3.4 WAR in each of the past three years, so I think he's definitely at least the slightly above average player. His ability to be better is almost entirely dependent on his power. I'm not especially bullish, but I would say there's a chance.

The Jays have 35 strikeouts currently, should I be concerned?
Paul Swydan
9:40
Nope.

Corey dickerson a potential surprise this year?
Paul Swydan
9:41
He's not going to be a surprise to me. :-)

Ross and Stroman for Scherzer in a 20 team. Too much in such a deep league?
Paul Swydan
9:41
Yeah, probably. Assuming you mean Tyson Ross.

OMG I joined a dynasty league and the team I inherited is awful and holy crap is the player universe enormous, and way bigger than I'm used to. I know who the top prospects are, but they're all taken. Any general strategies for a first time dynasty guy taking over a poor team. Go for volume of prospects, sell all your pieces for a few elite ones and hope they hit? Quit b/c the team is so bad?
Paul Swydan
9:42
I would focus on the best prospects in A ball. Guys like Anderson Espinoza that are ranked in the 30s right now, but who have a good chance to be the guys in the top 15-25 next year. If the team is that bad, you can afford to be patient.

Most flagrant example I can think of:
9:43
In 2009 Leyland had a number of games where Clete Thomas hit 3rd and Magglio Ordonez was on the bench. The Tigers lost in Game 163. There's an example where you can say that lineup construction really hurt a team.
Paul Swydan
9:44
So, this is an example of where we overreact to the name. Should Clete Thomas have been hitting 3rd? No. But was Ordonez on the bench that big of a deal? Also no. For the season, Thomas was actually better in less playing time because Ordonez was such a train wreck in the field: http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2009&month=0&season1=2009&ind=0&team=6&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0
