Will you be mentally attaching an asterisk to the WS winners if a team like the Rockies or Mariners sneaks into the (expanded) playoffs and gets hot, but not if a team like the Yankees or Dodgers wins it all, on the grounds that the latter teams, as a matter of true talent, deserved to be in the playoffs, but the former teams did not?

It should have an asterisk regardless of what happens, I'm just dismayed at how you can't strip the negative connotation from the asterisk because of the steroid era. It just denotes a weird thing happened but it's always discussed as if it cheapens the accomplishment.
