Fantasy Baseball Chat With Brad Johnson

Brad Johnson

Hey folks, we'll get started momentarily.
Feury
12:01
H2H points, can one or Yelich or Eloy...also can keep one of Corey Seager or Willy Adames?
Brad Johnson
12:02
Shame to let any of those go. I'd go with Eloy with an eye on the future. I do think Yelich will have another moment or two in the sun sometime in the next 5 seasons - kinda like Votto still has his moments. I prefer to bet on Eloy's youth.
12:03
I think I'd be called out as a fraud if I said anything other than Seager for the SS spot, but I do suspect they're closer than they appear by rankings/ADP.
12:04
Adames probably comes in just below Seager in R/HR/RBI with AVG being the main differentiator in favor of Seager.

Who has a better year for fantasy? Daulton Varsho or Michael Kopech?
Brad Johnson
12:05
These are two players I love. I think Varsho in particular is poised for a huge season while Kopech probably will be handled too carefully to have huge upside.
I said that about Corbin Burnes last year though...
12:06
I don't think Kopech is quite that talented fwiw.

12:06
I have eight Scoresheet teams. Do you play Scoresheet? Will we get any Scoresheet content?
Brad Johnson
12:07
I do not play Scoresheet unfortunately. I do some DMB and OOTP. I'll pass the request to Tim, maybe he'll want to run a poll.

Did Luis Urias do enough to cement himself at the hot corner for the Brewers going forward or is he more a utility player or heir apparent at 2B once Wong is gone?
Brad Johnson
12:08
I expect them to use him flexibly. The problem is his arm. It's erratic which means he doesn't fit in the infield despite the glove for it. So he probably winds up in the OF long term since he's also a weird fit for DH.
12:09
He has the bat for DH, but I can't imagine a team wanting to employ such a tiny guy as their regular DH.

12:09
Dylan Carlson or Tyler ONeil?
Brad Johnson
12:09
2022, gimme O'Neill. In a keep forever dynasty, I want Carlson instead.
12:10
Neither of those situations are close imo
If your time horizon is to keep them for 3-4 years, then that's around the breakeven point for me.

Assuming health, is Flaherty a top 10 starter?
Brad Johnson
12:11
I don't think so, but he doesn't miss the mark by much.
We've just had so many good pitchers burst onto the scene lately.
12:12
So NFBC has Flaherty as the 27th pitcher off the board
which I consider a steal
12:13
But I also can't say any of the guys ahead of him, besides maybe Max Fried (26), should definitely go after Flaherty.
The first 30 names are just really good this year.
12:14
And yes, that does affect draft strategy, though you should still plan to pop 2-3 arms in the first 6 rounds of a 12-teamer. If you're going with a balanced draft.
Recovery!
12:15
Have the option in a h2h points league, where wins are 10 points, better to keep (I stashed both late last year): Clevinger or Severino?
Brad Johnson
12:16
Hmm. Gimme a second on this one. My gut says Severino if only because he farther removed from the injury. In the sense that he finished recovering late last season and all the time in between now and then should be additional distance from injury.
12:17
I would take the shot at Severino.

12:17
Doe Bobby Bradley ever hit enough to be a reliable power source in a fantasy lineup?
Brad Johnson
12:19
Bradley isn't the sort of prospect who is guaranteed a MLB future. Think of him as similar to guys like Nate Lowe, Rowdy Tellez, and Dan Vogelbach. Not that the profile is the same. The similarity lies in where they fit in the MLB ecosystem - as a second division starter or guy who bounces around via trade/waivers.
12:20
My read is he needs to make more contact or hit more fly balls to be a regular. Best outcome, barring a change in talent (which is common these days), is something like Adam Duvall with fewer fly balls.

Thanks for the chat! 10 team AL only standard 5x5. Please rank the following as to 2022 value and also value over 3 years- 2022, 2023, 2024: Ro
forgot to list the players! Torkelson, Witt, Greene, Rurschman, J Rodreguez.  Thanks!
Brad Johnson
12:22
Well, these are what? five of the seven best prospects? Pretty sure they're all top 5 on a bunch of lists.
12:23
The reports I have on Witt suggest he'll make the biggest fantasy impact just from multi-category production. I'd go JRod 2nd.
12:24
Then we have to get into discussions about how to value catcher production relative to other positions. I have little doubt Tork and Greene are likelier to produce big R/HR/RBI than Adley. That's a combination of position (more PA) and team context (better teammates).
However, if you compare Adley to other catchers, he probably stands out more than Tork and Greene do at their respective positions.
12:25
All of which is a sort of shrug, right? I prefer Tork to Greene fwiw. I'll leave it up to you to decide how you want to value catchers.

12:25
I really think Eduardo Rodriguez landed in a perfect location. Weak division, great pitcher's park, and a strong defensive lineup. In a league that counts QS, am I crazy to think he's a potential top 30 SP?
