Fantasy Baseball Chat With Brad Johnson

I don't think so. At ADP 18, it might even be a value.
Obviously more dangerous in keeper/dynasty formats
12:26
As I mentioned earlier, there is scope to skip these early pitchers as long as you pile on heavy in the early-middle rounds.
Guy
12:26
Who do you see as a solid closer that you can grab in the later rounds of a 12 team league?
Brad Johnson
12:26
David Bednar jumps immediately to mind
Gregory Soto's in the same range
12:27
Andrew Kittredge and Dylan Floro have closer traits and finished the year with the role. But they also have some internal competition.
Dodger Dog
12:27
Mike Moustakas seems really underrated this year. The DH guarantees him regular playing time and he should be healthy. What gives?
Brad Johnson
12:28
I'm getting a lot of Moustakas. Folks like the write off older players recovering from injury. They're a predictable profit center. No risk, modest reward.

Am I going to get picked at all with my weight gain and all or nothing bat.
Brad Johnson
12:28
This is another guy folks are writing off, and he's not even actually old. 29yr 10mo today.
12:29
In his case, I'm looking at him in daily moves leagues where I can platoon him. Because MLB teams seem determined to keep him in such a role.
I'm not convinced he needs it.
Sharon Peters
12:30
Have you ever heard of any studies on how many females play fantasy baseball leagues? I know of none personally.
Brad Johnson
12:30
I'm unaware of any such research.
12:32
Demographics are known to be a problem both in real and fantasy baseball fandom.
Nicholas
12:32
Which underrated prospect you would pick in a dynasty league? I’m in dynasty league after we were in a keeper league for a few years.
Brad Johnson
12:33
So I like to go for guys who supply instant gratification. Cruz, Pratto, MJ Melendez, Juan Miranda, Juan Yepez, Bryson Stott would all be very high on my list.
Bob
12:33
Who is this years wander Franco?
Brad Johnson
12:34
Depending on who you talk to, it's Bobby Witt Jr. or Julio Rodriguez. I'd lean Witt personally. Floor is similar to Dansby Swanson. Ceiling might be better than Bo Bichette.
Worth noting: never expect the ceiling, and especially never expect it in the first three years of a career.
12:35
In any event, he has all the makings of a five-category monster.
12:36
I'm not as convinced Rodriguez will run much in the Majors. And since he only has 206 PA in Double-A, he's seemingly at least half a season from a promotion. We could see Witt very early on, depending on any changes to the CBA.

Thoughts on Verlander?
Brad Johnson
12:37
The report I got from someone who watched his showcase was that he looked like JV.
12:38
So I think we can go into this treating him a little like Scherzer. He's a huge bold BUY for me at his 110 ADP.
Marvin
12:38
Thoughts on Bassit being underrated if W/L is not a category? Where is he in your SP rankings/tiers?
Brad Johnson
12:39
I'm a Bassitt stan.
He's getting drafted between Shane Baz and Framber Valdez at ADP 140
12:40
I think he more aptly fits around pick 100. Another bargain imo.
Connecticut Cannons
12:40
Hey Brad! Accidentally forgot to draft a 1B in a deep dynasty points league. Any 500+ guys to keep an eye on for claims?
Brad Johnson
12:40
Another case where Pratto comes in. Lemme see who else.
12:42
Carlos Santana could dead cat bounce. Juan Yepez again (hoping for DH), Casas. Brad Miller and Jace Peterson are surprisingly decent when they play.
12:43
Once they trade Olson and Chapman, it looks like Eric Thames might start at 1B/DH and bat somewhere 3-5.
Assuming they don't sign anyone else (and they should)
The Pain and the Smell
12:43
Is Nate Lowe on a trajectory for fantasy stardom?
Brad Johnson
12:43
I would say he's on a parallel path on the way to mediocrity
12:44
but the stardom path remains in sight. He just needs to walk over some grass to get to it.
Dropping the metaphor, his issue is low-angle contact.
12:45
I've seen folks saying he changed his approach late in the year, and there's some statistical evidence. I've also talked to a couple scout types who say it's a mirage.
