With the season delayed, is Acuña back to being a top 5 pick?
Brad Johnson
12:19
Not quite yet. We're still expecting him to miss time and probably not run much. Most players who come back from his injury need a year or more before they feel like themselves.
But he's in my Top 10
David
12:20
How often do you mock draft? I heard you mentioned quite a few times on the Fantasy Baseball Today podcast
Brad Johnson
12:20
I've been doing fewer this year than normal. In the past, at least once a week starting in December. This year, I think I have 6 or 7 under my belt.
12:21
Weird offseason and all
Would You...
12:21
Would you suggest delaying an NL only draft scheduled for April 2?  So many free agents still out there and so much uncertainty.
Brad Johnson
12:21
Yes, I would delay until as late as possible
12:22
If y'all don't mind, I'd like to take a few minutes to make my next Tout Wars selection. It's the 18th round/pick 260.
12:26
Ok, I'm back
Wound up with an unsexy pick - Andrew Kittredge
Unfortunately, draft dynamics left me without one of the few credible closers
12:27
That's my first RP. Hoping he picks up where he left off. He was a top 20 fantasy RP last season despite few saves.
On the topic of RP

Will Smith or Scott Barlow as the better reliever option for 2022?
Brad Johnson
12:28
Barlow is the better pitcher, Smith may have the better grasp on a job. I prefer to bet talent (Barlow) over role at this stage of the process. So much can happen between now and Opening Day with RP depth charts.
From an ADP perspective, Smith goes much earlier so you can probably get both.

12:28
Is it worth moving Adley Rutschman for Langeliers and a heavy young arm?
Brad Johnson
12:29
No, this doesn't make sense to me as proposed. If you're telling me the young arm is like Julio Urias, that obviously changes things.
Jake
12:29
Keep 2. JD Martinez, Alex Verdugo, Jared Walsh.
Brad Johnson
12:30
Depends on league rules and time horizons. Walsh and JDM for 2022. If you might be credibly looking to like 2024 and beyond, then you can consider Verdugo over JDM. Verdugo is still in need of a breakout.

Urias is bigger than Albies :) EOM
Brad Johnson
12:31
I'd have to see them side-by-side to truly believe that. I know they're listed that way.
The more important detail is that Albies can play D
The Pitts
12:31
Bednar a full time closer this year?  Trying to decide if he's a keeper or better off in another direction.
Brad Johnson
12:32
I think so, with the caveat that the Pirates are very cheap
It's become common for penny-pinching franchises to reserve the closer role for older pitchers and/or guys under set contracts. The better to suppress arbitration raises.
12:33
But I can't imagine who else would close. Maybe Blake Cederholm makes his way back from injury?
MRM
12:33
If Frankie Montas a top15 SP if there is a season in 2022?
Brad Johnson
12:33
It's possible, but he wouldn't be on my shortlist
12:34
There are so many good SP

12:34
In fantasy, I usually reject trades where I’m sending 1 player and getting 2 or more. Do you think I might be better off considering them?  Mostly, I find them to be 1-sided, and not to my benefit
Brad Johnson
12:34
You should always be skeptical of such deals.
Fantasy is, in part, a game of aggregating resources.
12:35
You only want to disaggregate if you have a big hole to fill
Like, you might trade Tatis for Freeman and Bogaerts if your 1B is Jesus Aguilar.
12:36
But even then, your preference should be for a 2-for-2 deal
Prospects Question
12:36
Will Jose Miranda be given a chance this year in Minny?  And do you expect his numbers to translate to the bigs?
Brad Johnson
12:36
If I was running things over there, Sano would play 1B, Donaldson DH, and Miranda would handle 3B.
Donaldson desperately needs DH
