Fantasy Baseball Chat With Brad Johnson

Brad Johnson

His defense dropped to terrible last season, and that calf seems to be a permanent problem. Let him drop the more athletic movements from his toolbag.
As for performance, remember that Double- and Triple-A were historically bad for pitching last season
12:38
Think of it as Triple-A caliber hitters facing A-ball pitchers
Even Indy-ballers in some cases
So no, he's not going to hit .340/.400/.570
12:39
But he could do something like .280/.340/.460 with good pop
He's a big late-round target for me
Zack
12:39
Can I expect good things from Bobby Dalbec in his sophomore year?
Brad Johnson
12:39
This is another guy I very much like. He finished on a high note, cutting his strikeouts and tapping into regular power.
12:40
Gotta watch out for Casas if Dalbec slumps
Detroit
12:40
Am I the only one who thinks Detroit was a horrible landing spot for baez? That deep outfield kills his home runs and without he is just a low average/high strikeout guy. Glove is still solid, but not for the money they gave him and it kind of kills him for fantasy purposes
Brad Johnson
12:40
Baez is mostly crossed off my draft list
I'm looking at him after pick 120 and his ADP is close to half that
Flyer
12:40
How would you handle all the free agents still out there in an NL only upcoming draft ?  Would you allow them to be drafted?
Brad Johnson
12:41
I think you have to. Better to delay the draft. Or switch to mixed for this year if it's not a keeper league
Giseppe
12:41
Do you trust Montas, Gausman or Flaherty more for the upcoming year?
Brad Johnson
12:41
I hate the word "trust" when applied to fantasy, and doubly for pitchers.
I'll also say, those guys are in the same bucket for me. I really don't have a preference.
Paul
12:41
Who is more likely to contribute for real this year - Riley Greene or JRod?
Brad Johnson
12:42
Big time Greene. JRod is still some distance from a callup. Greene could make the OD roster or shortly thereafter.
Mike T
12:42
Who are your top 3 pitchers?
Brad Johnson
12:43
Cole, Burnes, and Wheeler
Tempted to say deGrom, especially in shallower formats
Eric
12:43
Is Verlander as a mid 20s Keeper worth the gamble?
Brad Johnson
12:43
I'd need to know more about your opportunity cost. My instinct is he's an easy keep.
12:44
Based on the information we have, I'm expected normal Verlander. He's a huge draft-day value at his current ADP.
Jim
12:44
Luis Robert’s jump into Top 20 ADP is a bit aggressive, don’t you think? He had a scorching final month or 2 last season but is that really enough?
Brad Johnson
12:44
It's the stolen bases. There just aren't many players who swipe bags without totally ruining HR and/or RBI
I think the ADP is basically correct for AVG formats
12:45
Needs to go later in OBP - can't rely on a .394 BABIP to bolster his nonexistent walk rate again.
Roto
12:45
Which players get hurt the most by a delayed spring training?
Brad Johnson
12:46
Anyone competing for a job. And there are a lot of those guys out there. The players whose spring performance makes the club think about how they can shuffle around their original plans to fit a newcomer.
Running in Place
12:47
Sneaky SB pick for an NL only league?
Brad Johnson
12:47
I need to run one down for you, one moment.
The first 10 names I thought of were in the AL or unsigned
12:48
Rafael Ortega
12:49
If 10 SB counts, Wil Myers might have another rebound in him
Jon Berti always seems to find playing time
Not so sweet Lou
12:49
For 2022 only which corner you like - Miranda, Yepez or L Diaz?
Brad Johnson
12:50
You've got them in the order I'd try them
