I'm expecting about 18 HR, 10 SBs, 200 R+RBI, and a .290 AVG. Role determines how those R and RBI are distributed. Might mostly bat third which should be like 110 RBI in that lineup.
Or batting second, more in the 85 RBI neighborhood with 110 R

With Texas signing Holland, is Joe Barlow's career as a closer closing?
Brad Johnson
12:55
Nah, Greg Holland is pretty bad. He might not even make the club. Not that Barlow is someone I'm targeting. He's an adequate middle reliever.

Do the Rays trade one of their outfielders soon to get Josh Lowe to start opening day?
Brad Johnson
12:56
It doesn't look like it. I have heard through the rumor mill they're shopping Austin Meadows. He's rather Conforto-like so anyone who whiffs on him could turn to Meadows.
12:57
Even that doesn't necessarily open a spot for Lowe.
And they've told Kiermaier they aren't trading him.
(or so he commented)

What is your view of saves as a category vs. saves + holds? I have a couple leagues considering the switch. Thanks.
Brad Johnson
12:58
Personally, I prefer saves alone.
I appreciate the challenge more, and I enjoy the way it distorts market valuations.
12:59
Adding in holds feels lazy to me. It's a way of having cake and eating it too. Prospecting for saves should be painful and costly. It's not when Devin Williams is contributing to the stat too.
That said, I have no real qualms with S+HD
1:00
I do deeply dislike SV and HD as separate categories.

I can keep one of the 3: starling marte ($29), Marcus semien ($21) or Kevin gausman ($16). Who should I keep? 16-team 5x5 roto league.
Brad Johnson
1:00
I'd go for Semien now that Marte is nursing an intercostal strain.
1:01
I won't be in on Gausman in the AL East until I see him thriving

In a NL 5 my choice for a keeper is Hilliard $1, Bender $1, Lauer $1 or Segura $16.  Which gives me the best value?
Brad Johnson
1:01
I'd go for Bender.
1:02
It's about a 33% chance for saves near Opening Day and probably a ~50% chance for 10+ saves all season. That's easy value whereas the others probably flop or are overpriced (Segura)
And that brings us to one last keeper question. Anyone have any buzzer beaters?

5x5 10 team AL only, $260 budget, 2 year contracts, 15% inflation. Keeper question- would you freeze Patino $5, Brantley $10, Kepler $14, W. Calhoun $2, Toro $5, Giles $5?  Thanks!
Brad Johnson
1:03
Yes to Patino and Giles
The others I need to chew on a minute
1:04
I think Brantley is a yes, just barely
1:05
Kepler is... also very close. He's volatile, but the median is probably right around $14-15
1:06
Calhoun is tough, I think also a yes for me.
At worst, he doesn't play and you lost $2.
1:07
Toro... could go either way. Probably also right at $4-5.
1:08
I know everyone downgraded him because of Suarez, but I figure Toro probably makes most of the 3B starts with Suarez DHing. At least initially until JRod is on hand and/or Kyle Lewis is healthy.
1:09
Well, that's all of the questions. Twas a pleasure. See ya next week on the main site.
