1. Ramon Urias in Bal or Mateo better season? And 2. Who are some guys who's vélo is up that you are eyeing in spring for your drafts
Brad Johnson
1:20
Regarding #2, we seem to be WAY behind on getting useful velocity reports. The guys I do know are up like Mitch Keller, I'm still out on.
I think a betting man should choose Urias, though Mateo's path to a big performance is more obvious.
1:21
A really good season from Urias is something like .280 AVG, 25 HR, 3 SB, 150 R+RBI
If Mateo spikes, it's more like .255 AVG, 18 HR, 35 SB, 140 R+RBI
1:22
Which is the more valuable performance by like $10 even though he'd only be better in one category.
If they keep performing, they have plenty of room to play both. So you don't have to view it as an either-or scenario.

can you give it us some sleeper closer options? I like Whitlock and Knebel.
Brad Johnson
1:22
Art Warren is a huge play and available well after Knebel.
1:23
Anthony Bender's going to open the year as the CL
I think Andrew Kittredge will glean more saves than his ADP suggests
1:24
Here's everything I have on the NL. As I mentioned before, a similar post for the AL will be up on Friday. https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/article/saves-and-steals/all-about-saves...

Do you think freeman will sit more in LA? They sit veterans like Betts and Bellinger a lot for rest
Brad Johnson
1:25
Yes, but it's actually a net positive. And if you're in a daily moves league, a double-positive since you can squeeze out a couple extra starts from other guys.
That time on the bench keeps those guys healthier and more productive.

Would a tandem of Garver and D'arnaud be better than Will Smith? A lot of trade interest.
Brad Johnson
1:26
Personally, I'd aim at Sean Murphy instead of d'Arnaud if you can.
I think the idea is right, I'm just out on d'Arnaud specifically.
Justin
1:27
Who is an “ace” pitcher you would stay away from ?
Brad Johnson
1:27
Shane Bieber. I want to see him put up before I buy.
I'm not landing any shares of Walker Buehler. No specific reason that I can discern.

Do you see Gorman or josh Lowe making an impact this season and where do you see Taylor walls total AB for the season being
Brad Johnson
1:28
I think Walls will get up in the 450 PA range. He's a legitimately decent player. Better than Joey Wendle, though probably less consistent
1:29
I do think Gorman and Lowe will be needed as those teams fight tough battles for playoff spots.
1:30
That said, they both have to sidestep a bunch of good players. Gorman's best path (besides injury) is to be better than Edman. Lowe has to wait for KK's annual injury, then perhaps a few more besides.
Not sure he can crack the roster without injuries.

What the best strategy to fend off managers having a fire sale to tank their season trading for better draft picks?
Brad Johnson
1:31
For the dynasty leagues I run, I use the following system to determine draft order:
  1. Most money made in the last 2 seasons picks last. Random.org breaks any ties
  2. Everybody with $0 earnings gets entered into Random.org to determine the top of the draft order.
1:32
Sure, that's tough on tanked teams, but they have other paths to rebuild.
1:33
Anytime we have more than 3 owners to replace - which is common because it's a 24-team league - we do a redistribution draft that anyone can opt into. We also have a different yearly redistribution draft focused on mixing up the final 5 keepers on each team.
1:34
These rules have been very successful. I'm very surprised even though I designed them for this purpose.

Who do think are the favorites for saves in BOS & SEA?
Brad Johnson
1:34
Boston's pretty easy, it's Barnes or Whitlock. They're not planning to stretch out Whitlock at present so I favor him slightly.
1:35
Seattle could really shake out any way. I think you have to look at Giles as having a good shot at an early chance.
Steckenrider could enter the season with it even though he's like their 6th or 7th best reliever.
Just because that's easiest from their perspective. Go with familiar then ride hot hands until an answer is obvious.
1:36
I love Andres Munoz whenever he's healthy for 3 minutes
Paul Sewald is a beast. They have more besides.
Pale Hose
1:36
Do you think Andrew Vaughn will get enough at bats with the White Sox to be a viable late round pick?
Brad Johnson
1:36
Yes, even with the recent injury - I think it was a hip pointer, right?
