Fantasy Baseball Chat With Brad Johnson

Generally, at what point during the season do you stop considering a hot/cold start from a hitter a hot/cold stretch and accept that's what they're going to be going forward?
Brad Johnson
12:21
It's player-to-player. A couple weeks of performance is nothing, I only look at very surface level stats to see if something obvious is amiss.
12:23
As the streak extends, I'll dig deeper into the details. I'm looking for indications a guy is broken (slump) or possesses new talent (hot streak)

12:23
Is Shane Bieber a buy low candidate after his last showing against Toronto?
Brad Johnson
12:24
I really don't think so. He was a sell-high candidate before. Peripherals haven't looked right since... I think 2019?
Trey Hewitt
12:24
How about Stone Garrett for future AZ outfielders?
Brad Johnson
12:25
He could beat Carroll to the Majors if only so the DBacks have a chance to evaluate him beforehand. He's 26, basically post-prospect. Historically, his fantasy stats read better than his actual performance.
I think he's a second-division starter personally.
12:26
The DBacks ARE a second-division team, but their OF won't reflect that for years yet.
All That Jazz
12:26
Is Jazz Chisholm a "sell high" candidate?
Brad Johnson
12:26
It's worth hearing offers. If you can turn him into someone with a similar profile and higher floor, it's enticing
12:27
I think the dream is shipping like Jazz and Logan Gilbert for Trea Turner.

12:27
Why is your advice exactly the same as Razzball advice? Are you really Grey without charisma?
Brad Johnson
12:28
That's news to me! I'm friendly with the Razz folks, but I've read maybe half of an article once on their site.
12:29
I think, if you traced the lineage of where we came from, you'd find we're all heavily influenced by FanGraphs and Eno specifically.
12:30
It's been a few years since I wrote for FG, but I still self-identify as a FG analyst.
K. Marte/Kelenic/Grisham
12:30
Any signs of life from any of these guys?
Brad Johnson
12:30
Yes, Marte has a pulse. I think he's fine. I don't have a read on Grisham and fully out on Kelenic
Nats bro
12:31
Do you profile Luis Garcia on the Nats anything more than “a guy”?
Brad Johnson
12:32
Yes. Not going to say he's a star in the making as it appeared a few years ago, but he still profiles as an above average player. The complete loss of SBs from his profile hurts for fantasy purposes
But, I do think he'll hit like .275 with at least 20 HR pop at peak. He's still just 22.
Ah, 21 technically! Birthday next Monday.

Eno is the goat
Sleeper Status
12:33
Is Josh Winder a Sleeper and "must add" after 2 great outings?
Brad Johnson
12:34
It's going to depend on your league depth. He was a sleeper for me around mid-March when it was becoming apparent he'd make the club in some capacity. I think he's awake now. That said, I wouldn't expect more than a fantasy-average line for 12-team mixed.
12:35
That's a lovely thing to find on the wire or trade a guy you were thinking about cutting. Just don't overreach.
Drays guy
12:35
Who are 2-3 relievers you would stash in hope they get the closer jobs later in the season? Looking for help in saves
Brad Johnson
12:36
This list hasn't changed at all for me lately - Andres Munoz, Ryan Helsley, maybe even Jordan Hicks - dude has 2 pitches, he's a reliever. I'm forgetting someone
In deeper formats, I've been grabbing Ryan Thompson as the TB version of Tyler Rogers.
12:37
I have a suspicion he'll lead the team with like 14 saves.
3B
12:37
I own Devers, Machado, Arenado, Riley & Franco but need SP real bad. Which one should I trade? 14 team, 3B, CI, Utl, Utl
Brad Johnson
12:38
Since you're listing 3B, I assume that's Maikel Franco and not Wander? If it's Wander and you have other SS, see if someone will light their team on fire to get him.
Otherwise, my instinct is to block them all and take the offer that hands you the most points.
Nats bro
12:38
what are your thoughts on CJ Abrahms?
Brad Johnson
12:38
In brief, bright future, not entirely ready.
12:39
Worth remembering he skipped Triple-A and didn't exactly pass Double-A (183 PA, .296/.363/.420, 2 HR, 13 SB)
That's not bad output, but it's also not screaming "skip me straight to the Majors"
12:40
The Pads are just trying to put their best foot forward in an unforgiving division. I'm sure they want to demote him when they get some guys back.
Minnesotan
12:40
When can I expect signs of life from Muncy and Ozuna?
Brad Johnson
12:41
These are both players who could be disproportionately affected by the way the baseball is playing. Now, I suspect, since it seems to be almost entirely the humidors, that they'll be fine as the weather warms.
