Brad Johnson
12:00
Hello and welcome, I'll get started as soon as I shovel down a few more bites of pasta
Brad-ish
12:02
Curious how deep the league needs to be for you to start Bradish today vs Yankees. He's like you, but only somewhat.
Brad Johnson
12:03
I've got Brad-ish puns simmering in my subconscious. Just waiting for the right one to surface. You better believe I'll use one.
12:04
As for today...
12:05
I think you could make a case in 12-team mixed, especially H2H. But it's a lot safer to just avoid the Yankees right now.
12:06
Bradish seems to be a little bit different every start (going back to the minors)
We want to see the version inducing whiffs, not the afraid-of-walks, pitch-to-contact version.
Kirk Kick
12:07
Hey Brad. Dealt Kirk, Detmers and Harold Ramirez for Myles Straw in al obp league. (Have Heim and D Janssen already at catcher). Seem ok to you?
Brad Johnson
12:08
I think I'm OK with that given your C depth. Lot of depth for a regular starter
While I try to avoid players like Straw in mixed leagues, they work just fine in Only formats.

Would you start Snell at PHI in his season debut scheduled for Wednesday?
Brad Johnson
12:09
I'm avoiding it
12:10
The reason is it's just one start, it's against a team that can go nuts offensively, we don't really know how deep Snell will go, and I don't have any reports from his rehab stint re: velocity/stuff.
12:11
The appeal to Snell was that he turned a corner late last year and we hoped he'd carry it over.
The injury lowers the chance of an effective carryover.
More evaluation is a good thing.
12:12
I also advised someone to sit Reid Detmers' no-no so what do I know? Sometimes this year, it feels like any pitcher is viable.

12:12
I trade Carlos Correa and Alec Bohm for Byron Buxton and Bobby Witt. Do I do this trade?
Brad Johnson
12:13
I love that trade for you. Of course, it's all about Buxton's injury risk. You also net a ton of SBs which is always nice.
Reynold
12:14
Which of these three for the ROS. 11 team NL+Astros, 5x5: B Gamel, L Cain, C McCormick?
Brad Johnson
12:15
This isn't a fun answer, but they're in the same talent bucket. Do you have a specific category you need more? They're all somewhat inconsistently used - McCormick most of all even though I also probably like him most of the trio.
12:16
I'd probably toss out Cain for now since he might be about done as a big leaguer.
Then maybe play it by matchups? Use Gamel on weeks when he has a bunch of RHP to face.

Starting pitcher Daniel Espino has been slowed by a patella injury.  How bad is it and how will it affect his growth as a young superstar?
Brad Johnson
12:17
So, I see a number of questions about injuries that I don't have much background on.
12:18
Espino has patella tendinitis which isn't a super-common issue with MLBers. Tendinitis usually isn't too serious - you typically just need to let the inflammation subside then strengthen whatever muscles aren't appropriately supporting the joint.
12:19
So, I think we don't need to worry too much

12:19
How dangerous is Luzardo's injury?
Brad Johnson
12:20
Luzardo, on the other hand, has a forearm strain which can quickly turn into Tommy John surgery. The silver lining is the players/league have gotten a LOT better about preventing this from escalating.
12:22
Forearm strains tend not to be very painful or affect pitching so there's a natural inclination to pitch through it. But with the velocity these guys hit, that puts too much pressure on the joint.

Mickey Moniac had finallly seemed to have earned not only a spot on the Phillies roster coming out of spring training, but possibly a significant - if not starting - role in the outfield. Then, he suffered his untimely injury. What is the forecast for him in the days and weeks to come as he comes off the injured list and begins his rehab games? Is there a chance he can regain a significant role with the Phillies this season?
Brad Johnson
12:23
Moniak is trending towards a return to game action within the next week to 10 days. It's worth noting how many hitters had fantastic Spring Trainings and didn't show up when the games counted.
12:24
First hurdle is to post something like a 140 wRC+ in Triple-A. That would shout "I'm ready."
If he's down near his usual .240/.300/.440, then he's more of a backup.
12:25
Doobie Herrera has been one of the Phillies better hitters, albeit with some ugly underlying metrics.
Maybe there's a platoon here instead of the current one using Roman Quinn
12:26
Long story short, he could be a pleasant surprise, but I wouldn't count on much.
Where’s my Mullins?
12:27
Do you have an early pick for this year’s Cedric Mullins (eg somebody who comes out of nowhere to be a top 20-30 bat — not in the first month but on the year)?
Brad Johnson
12:27
Well, I don't offhand, but I can saunter over to FanGraphs and have a quick poke around.
12:28
Tommy Edman has made legitimate strides with his left-handed power stroke. But he's still a 50% GB% guy so there's limits to what he can achieve
