Fantasy Baseball Chat With Brad Johnson

Though with Baddoo, it's much less likely to matter if the Tigers get that extra year of control.
If they weren't a 12-23 club, it would probably be less tempting. Then again, they might feel more pressure to escape these lousy performances.
12:53
Back to Kelenic... I'd like to see how he responds to Triple-A.
12:54
Triple-A was completely busted last season. Some teams had Indy-leaguers pitching for them. So that might explain why he torched the league.
I do think he'll eventually emerge as a good player. Maybe not quite a superstar.

Is Nick Martinez destine for the BP and if so does he lose any fantasy relevance that he may have had?
Brad Johnson
12:56
I think so. The Padres are intelligent enough to know they can't futz around in that division. They have to bring their best play every day. And Gore's already a better option for 6th SP than Martinez.
We'll see what they have in Clevinger and Snell over the next month
12:57
Unfortunately (for them), they have to suck it and see (that's a real British phrase!)

Not to clog up trade but just one more trade idea. I trade Tatis and Bohm for Chisolm and Gallo? Probably not as good of a trade as the correa one above for me but hard to give up on chisholm while Tatis doesnt really have a clear timetable
Brad Johnson
12:58
I liked that other idea more for you. Tatis seems to be slightly behind his original timetable, but I've given up predicting when he'll return.
The way he does things, he'll be DHing a week after his first swing.
12:59
(I don't think that will happen, but it wouldn't be the first time he proved me - and doctors - wrong)

How do you weight ROS projections and what your lying eyes tell you as to how a player is preforming? When, if ever, do ROS projections become pretty much meaningless?
Brad Johnson
12:59
I don't think they're ever meaningless, especially for guys who have gotten worse which is most of the hitters in the league.
1:00
They're at least instructive as to the skills the player had the last time he was good/healthy
Quite a few slumps are underpinned by an injury. Sometimes completely unknown.
1:01
Time to start wrapping up. I'll get through all the questions currently submitted.

Chas McCormick.   Might he provide impact on my roto team by the the 22 season Is done?
Brad Johnson
1:01
He's fringy for 12-team mixed. A streamer.
Not so much impact as keeping idle roster spots afloat

I have India and Barrero on the IL.  Any word on when they will be back and does Barrero step into a starting role?
Brad Johnson
1:02
India is trending late-May. I have no insight on their plans with Barrero. He resumed swinging about a week ago. Probably a good month out or more.

Would you take Dustin May, Jack Flaherty, or Patino in a keeper league? And your thoughts on each one please.
Brad Johnson
1:03
I prefer May right now. I think he's slightly better than full-health Flaherty AND his injury has a better prognosis of full recovery.
Patino is a distant third, I think he's a very good reliever.
Around the turn...

Dumpster-diving for pitchers -- Pivetta, Quintana, Martin Perez,  Zach Davies, Bruce Zim, Miley, Archer, Taijuan Walker. The possibilities are endless (ugh). Who do you see as best in H2H points over remainder of season?
Brad Johnson
1:04
Pivetta is the most predictably usable, but it totally depends on your points settings
They can vary wildly. Pivetta has the edge in Ks from this group.

In a 5X5 roto league (AL only), who do you like better for the rest of the season - Sewald or Munoz?
Brad Johnson
1:05
I love them both. I will say Munoz appears to be very carefully managed. Sewald might get more work.
So I'd lean Sewald.
Kyle Schwarber

In a H2H Category lead (batting stats being HR, RBI, SB, BA, OPS) in a 12 team league, how valuable am I as a waiver wire pickup? Do I turn it around?
Brad Johnson
1:06
Schwarber is a less extreme Gallo.
For H2H, that's not always ideal. It depends on the shape of your roster.
1:07
I often go very pitching heavy then load up on Schwarber/Gallo/Duvall types to try to snipe certain offensive categories. They struggle most of the time then have weeks with 7 HR. It evens out for full season, but it can be a headache in H2H

Cueto at the Royals today seems reasonable, but in weekly leagues with his second start at NYY, he's far too risky, right?

Is Johnny Cueto (who was just brought up by the White Sox) worth any sort of a serious look?
Brad Johnson
1:07
Maybe watch him, but I'm not using until I put eyes on him myself.
1:08
Last I saw him, he looked a little better than the guys I face in men's league.
