Fantasy Baseball Chat With Brad Johnson

Is Freddy Peralta droppable in 12-team Roto?  Redraft with five keepers.  My IL spots are full, my Freddy replacement Jakob Junis just went on the IL too, and I’m in 4th.  Just don’t know if hanging onto Freddy mostly as a 2023 keeper at this point is worth it.
Brad Johnson
12:27
Yes, I think he's droppable in shallower formats. Though if I knew more about your keeper rules (and who else is on your IL) that could sway me otherwise.

I was offered Nelson Cruz for Zac Gallen. I need some hitting and my pitching is strong. 12 team redraft 10 standard categories. Yes?
Brad Johnson
12:28
I'm inclined to consider that a fair trade

When a stoner hurts their elbow...they need Tommy Chong surgery!

If you had the choice of drafting Rodriguez or Witt Jr. which one would you pick and why?
Brad Johnson
12:29
EZ Rodriguez for me. Just showing me a lot more right now in terms of fantasy category productions.
I don't think Witt is far from turning a corner either.

Thoughts on Sale when he returns?
Brad Johnson
12:31
For now, I expect a full recovery so, aside from some rust, I'm looking for around a 4.00 ERA, 10.7 K/9, and a 1.15 WHIP.
12:32
Once he's closer to returning, we'll have a better sense if he's missing something. We can't really assess that now besides noting the risk. There's even a small chance he'll improve (not enough to cancel out the downside).
Alek Thomas
12:32
He seems to be holding his own against inside fastballs and is making adjustments pretty well for a rookie.  What are your thoughts on his ceiling and stat lines going forward?  Thanks for hosting the chat.
Brad Johnson
12:33
Yea, he's not overmatched. He's an above average hitter right now, but I'm not sure I see more than that in his immediate future.
Contact quality isn't quite there. Modest EVs and a low launch angle
He needs to get those EVs up a bit so he can be a high BABIP guy.
12:34
I think he's somewhat suffering from a common problem among newly debuted hitters - they don't want to strike out so they sell out for contact at the expense of power.
12:35
Thomas is talented enough to make it work. We see a lot of guys stall from being scared of Ks.

Hi, Brad.  Thanks for these Front Office members chats.  5x5 weekly, NL-only Roto league, too early to focus on any particular category.  Would you go with Eduardo Escobar (6 games, at home vs. MIL and MIA) or Luis Urias (6 games, at NYM and at CIN) this week and long term?  Urias reportedly is day to day with a sore hammy.
Brad Johnson
12:35
btw, getting low on questions if anybody has follow up thoughts
12:36
I'd probably do Escobar this week, though I kinda hate him at Citi Field.
I'm still annoyed he signed with the Mets because his power just doesn't play there.
12:37
Not like it would in CBP, Yankee Stadium, GABP, or similarly small venues. Of course, of that group, only the Phillies would have made sense as a suitor.

How about Escobar vs. Urias rest of season?
Brad Johnson
12:37
I'm getting there!
:)
12:38
I like Urias more as a player, but I don't think either guy is "wrong."
12:39
Put another way, if somebody had said they were offered an Escobar for Urias trade, I'd have shrugged.
Escobar's probably a little bit higher floor. Maybe a little higher mean/median too.
12:40
Urias has a better lineup role, and, if the Brewers are really lucky, maybe he drives in Yelich a bunch of times if the latter gets hot.

12:40
Is Jo Adell worth holding onto in keeper leagues?  I have him and Kelenic and some room on my Inactive list.  The two of them seem too young and talented to give up on this early in their careers.
Brad Johnson
12:41
Yea, I'd still hold both. I'm still quite enthusiastic about Adell. He's not even playing poorly. I don't get why they won't let him develop in the Majors.
He's too good for Triple-A, he's only going to get bad habits staying there.
I really don't have a read on Kelenic.
12:42
I didn't see him much as a prospect, so I've only seen him looking like Austin Meadows' worst nightmare
Hot Starts
12:42
Which of these hot (or at least much better than expected) fantasy starts do you buy most or least: Dansby Swanson, Brandon Drury, Andres Gimenez, Joc Pederson, Luis Arraez? (Leaving out Taylor Ward because his numbers look to me to be unsustainable on their face.)
Brad Johnson
12:43
I'm not much of a Gimenez believer. And while this is completely typical for Pederson, so too are the 100-PA slumps.
Multiple scouts have told me he's a pure guess hitter.
12:44
Maybe the Giants are getting him some better info than previous support staffs?
Would be a stunner if the Giants have remarkably better pitcher prep than the Dodgers tho...
Jose Barrero
12:44
He's probably not going to have an impact this year due to the wrist injury (and Farmer is hitting).  Going forward, what do you like/dislike about him?
