Thoughts on Spencer Steer this season?
Brad Johnson
2:03
I think he'll be in the 90-110 wRC+ range. Home venue should help a lot.
2:04
He has some of the markers for a low BABIP which might decide if he's a starter or Mike Brosseau-like reserve going forward.
2:06
Speaking of Brosseau, I think we can kind of consider Steer a rich man's version of him. Can loft the ball, potential for good average EV but limited upside for really smashing the piss out of the ball.
He might look very overexposed as a regular.

The Tigers look like a roto team of mixed talent compiled after a Twinkie & cola bender; among the guys like Maton, Vierling, Baddoo, Meadows & Carpenter bats, how do you rank them among possible production? The same question applies to SP & closer — do you advise approaching Detroit with caution?
Brad Johnson

Yeahhhhh
2:08
The venue isn't forgiving to hitters. They've brought in a bunch of guys who profile as small park banditos. Maton, Meadows, Vierling acquisitions were all designed for another place. Though I do like to see Maton and Vierling getting a clean shot at escaping bench roles.
2:09
I just like aspects about them, but they probably ARE bench role guys.
2:10
Carpenter's one of those guys scouts dislike even though he mashed through the minors. Big time wild card imo.
Baddoo... is athletic. I won't tell a player of his athletic skill that he can't dramatically improve. He needs to dramatically improve.
2:11
I have heard some good things about Boyd this spring for a late flier
I liked Turnbull from his apparent pre-injury breakout. Risky... I'm avoiding the other SPs. And I imagine the closer will turn out to be a surprise.

Do you think Matt Brash has the goods to be a decent starter or does he stay in the pen as a dominant reliever?
Brad Johnson
2:12
I think he's a long-term reliever. They're not really similar, but the use case with Houck is comparable. If the Ms needed SPs, Brash could find himself starting again. But, they won't need SPs.
And he's a true high leverage fireman as a reliever

Mervis or Manzardo for 2023 and beyond?
Brad Johnson
2:13
Mervis for 2023. Manzardo beyond.
2:14
Manzardo is universally liked by scouts. Most scouts I talk to about Mervis have doubts - ranging from emphatic "no chance" to someone streaky you'd prefer to upgrade. Like Rhys Hoskins.
And that is the end of the queue. Thanks for playing.
