Any chance Houck or Crawford stay in rotation in Boston or is Bello and Whitlock just to good and others seem healthy
Brad Johnson
1:19
Houck in particular could force their hand
Because he's one of those guys who could find bullpen play sticky. If he's a capable starter too, they won't want him to adjust too much to short-burst work.
Buxton Bros
1:19
No question, just saying this is the year Buxton stays healthy, plays 120+ games and hits 35+ bombs.  Everybody in MLB and fantasy rejoices

colas or wil Myers?
Brad Johnson
1:20
I'd try Colas. Myers is bland. Long-term, you can do better than either of them.
I say Halo
1:20
What's your outlook for Brandon Drury and how he will rank among 2B?
Brad Johnson
1:20
I'm pessimistic about a repeat performance. I think he benefited from GABP and opposing teams not caring about getting him out because they already had large leads.
1:21
I expect he'll be fine - just worse than last year and where he's getting drafted

In a league where you cannot keep players from the top X rounds, would you reach for any of Carroll, Walker, Volpe, Henderson in the final round of non-keepers to block them from the keeper pool? In other words, are they worth reaching for this year so they don't haunt you for years to come?
Brad Johnson
1:21
I don't think any of those guys is going to last anyway.
Unless X=2
1:22
Carroll is going pick 40ish, Volpe and Walker are going to be no later than 50s now. Henderson is the "bargain."
Responding to the spirit of the question, this sounds like a tryhard tactic. Better to identify guys "like" Carroll et al who you can draft in the keeper rounds.

Who gets the majority of saves for the Diamondbacks?
Brad Johnson
1:23
Don't ask me questions without answers
:)
Seriously though, I don't think Lovullo could answer that.
Draft Strategy Injuries
1:24
The last 3 years it seems the league winner has been able to just draft players that happen to stay healthy all year. Any benefit to focus on health vs upside?
Brad Johnson
1:24
I don't believe so. Others disagree. We bicker about it constantly on Twitter.
1:25
It's my belief we are incapable of accurately predicting injury risk.
Even if we could, deGrom with say 35% risk of major injury can still decide a league in the 65% scenario.
1:26
Basically, only currently injured players should be discounted. Usually, the discount is already baked into the acquisition cost. Then people try to double-bake it, making those guys a bargain.

Why so pessimistic about Colas? He blew through the minors
Brad Johnson
1:27
Was I pessimistic about Colas? All I said was you can do better.
1:28
He's expected to be roughly average in HR and AVG for a 12-team mixed OFer with 5 or fewer SB. Probably a non-premium lineup role.
1:29
I do think he's a better bet than most to post a shocking good April before falling back to earth
Gives me those "the league doesn't have the scouting report yet" vibes
Follow Up Question
1:29
In regards to Mitchell being my CF, options on waivers included Yastrzemski, Laureano, Carlson, Grichuk
Brad Johnson
1:30
I like Laureano more, but I might try to roster both. Mitchell has potential to be really interesting. Scouts soured on him in recent years, but he's also made some promising adjustments in that time.

I have one NA slot. Would you recommend using it for someone who could be up earlier like Matt Mervis or guys like Brett Baty, Elly de la Cruz, Francisco Alvarez, or Jason Dominguez
Brad Johnson
1:30
I'd classify Baty like Mervis fwiw
I'd usually use it on somebody near-Majors, but I think that's close enough to applicable for Elly DLC
1:31
btw, I'm coining the nickname Downloadable Content. Let it be catalogued here.

Am I delusional for thinking Justin Turner is going to be a monster playing half his games where the Green Monster is? Got him in an auction draft for $3 and was fully ready to spend $20. I feel I need perspective.
Brad Johnson
1:32
Well, $20 would have been way too much for a guy with his health issues
I know I just said don't get wrapped up in health expectations, but his is a case where he's old and obviously fragile.
Hypothetical GM
1:32
Anthony Volpe. Where does he now rank at SS in a roto 5x5.
Brad Johnson
1:33
Hard to figure. I'd look for him around the 40-45 range. Same range as guys like Jazz, Robert, Mullins, Schwarber
1:34
It would be nice to get him later (I got him in the 16th round of a 15-team Draft and Hold), but there's a good chance you'll whiff.
