Generally, it's OK to trade volume for better outcomes in your punted positions in Only formats.

Drafting on Thursday with retro stats. One man bench. If Sale and/or deGrom have another bad start, how much would you downgrade them. Note that ERA is only pitching category.
Brad Johnson
1:25
That's a little tricky to fully wrap my head around. I'd be quicker to downgrade Sale than deGrom. We know Jakey can toss up a 0.50 ERA over a 40 IP span, and he looked perfectly normal in his outing.
1:26
Basically, you should take your preferred projections, remove 1-2 starts, and replace the actual outcomes.
I think you'll still find deGrom near the top of the pile.
Let's see what the FG auction calc thinks
1:28
Prior to the season, deGrom was the top-value pitcher despite only 138 projected innings.

Adding to your answer to Just For Fun about why we do fantasy baseball... I've been doing it since 1986... for me and many people like me, it is 100% about the camaraderie with the other owners and 0% about money and betting... it is 6 months of trash talk, trade talk, arguing over rule changes, on the phone, group chats, steak dinners... all that wrapped around a sport we all love.   i am sure some people enjoy nerding out on the data crunching (count me one of them), but the real draw is having a fun community... don't understand joining an online league...and fantasy football does not even come close.   We just had our auction yesterday and as always, it was the best, most fun 8 hours of the year.

In your opinion who has more upside, Miranda or Baty?
Brad Johnson
1:29
Upside belongs to Baty, but I expect Miranda will be the better fantasy player this season. And possibly for the duration of their peaks. Baty has some profile flaws that might cause him to play down in fantasy.
I'll brb folks, my dog wants something.

Which one of Baltimore’s prospects debuts first, other than Grayson?  Westburg, Ortiz, Cowser, Norby, May, Kjerstad, etc
Brad Johnson
1:31
My money is on Ortiz. They love his gamesmanship and don't feel the need to max out his development since his future role is probably an oft-used bench guy.
1:32
Of course, that might not be the best thing for fantasy purposes.

Week 1 adds include Dany Jiminez and Scott McGough.  What are your thoughts on these two getting saves this year?
Brad Johnson
1:32
McGough really is the best first choice for the DBacks to evaluate in (at least) a stopper role.
1:34
Generally, good relievers in Japan are good relievers in America. I don't think he's going to be elite or anything, but I'd try him over Kyle Finnegan today.
I don't think Dany Jimenez is good. And I'm not sure he's healthy. Was missing 3 mph in his 2023 debut.
1:35
I expect around a 4.25 ERA from Jimenez.

Need some outfield help in AL only league. Which prospects are closest to coming up and making immediate impact?
Brad Johnson
1:35
The queue is running low if anyone has buzzer beaters to submit
I'm going to take a minute to look around the AL prospect pool
1:37
Drew Waters sorta counts?
I'm halfway through and not seeing a lot of instant gratification
1:38
Wild dart at Akil Baddoo
Jo Adell is a trade candidate
1:39
Oh, I think this is probably the big one. Justin Dirden nearly made the Astros out of camp.
1:40
Cade Marlowe once he's healthy. Especially if Kelenic falters again,
1:41
The Rangers have some guys like Evan Carter, but I think they're farther away than some in the industry believe.

How long until we see WEstburg in the majors?
Brad Johnson
1:41
midseason? He has the capacity to decide for them - kind of like Gunnar last year.
If he doesn't force their hand, it might not happen! (if none of the current regulars sustain injuries)
MikeD
1:42
Thoughts on Kirilloff as a fantasy option?  The injuries never stop.
Brad Johnson
1:42
You have to treat him as a late dart throw
There's no predicting what, if anything, is left in his bat/wrist.
1:43
He might just be the latest promising prospect who can't overcome a physical injury
Rick
1:43
You think Keller can build on his spring training and get to a SP3 Level?
Brad Johnson
1:43
I'm cautiously optimistic on the back of his excellent second half last season (against mostly scrubby teams)
1:44
Over his final 15 starts, he posted a 2.71 ERA with 7.81 K/9 and 3.04 BB/9. 3.84 xFIP
1:45
He has a new cutter he threw a lot (31%). His SwStr% was nice too.
