Heyo! Just finished writing up this guy for Big Hype Prospects. That is not a fun arm-angle for hitters.
Elly

Should folks be selling high right now, or am I as much of a unicorn as I seem to be so far?
Brad Johnson

In dynasty, you're not selling for anything less than a guaranteed win. In redraft, you have to assess your needs.
Elly DLC is the ultimate hail mary pass if you need any type of offensive reinforcement.
I've been comping him to Tatis for a while now, and that still looks correct to me.
1:02
There are certainly conditions in which it makes sense to either disaggregate him for more volume or else trade him for a higher-floor star.

Justin Steele, enough value to potentially hold in a keeper league? Current pitchers on my roster need to be redrafted.
Brad Johnson
1:04
That really depends on your league depth/rules. He's just fine. We're seeing him at his best right now. Usually, I'd expect him to neither help nor hurt in any category. A good core performer, not a fantasy ace.

What's your long-term outlook for Yanier Diaz for dynasty?  I know his playing time is a bit murky this year.  But it seems like he should be the full-time catcher next year and he has always hit.
Brad Johnson
1:05
He's playing more and more. He even has decent catcher ratings. I expect him to be volatile. It's hard to get past the Salvy Perez comp. His top-end power is actually underperforming what I expected too. I think he has another gear without making any changes.
1:06
For a first division team like the Astros, he profiles as a down-in-the-order all-or-nuthin' bomber
James Karinchak
1:06
Our league counts holds, do you hear anything about Karinchak coming back to Cleveland anytime soon?
Brad Johnson
1:07
I've heard nothing.
1:08
He's such a weird case, I could write 2,000 words right now. Short story is I wouldn't cling to him if you have access to other decent holds RP.

Do you think the recent trend of players being promoted from Double A, or having little AAA experience - Micheal Harris, Emmet Sheehan, Bryce Miller, Bryan Woo - is a fad or the beginning of shift in teams thinking?  If a shift is occurring, who are some upcoming prospects that you think could also skip AAA?
Brad Johnson
1:09
There is a shift, and it has to do with the tools we have to evaluate players. There's also come league context involved. Clubs with PCL franchises often at least think about skipping that level.
Pull the trigger!

Royce Lewis or Jordan Westburg ROS? I’m leaning Westburg. Help please.
Brad Johnson
1:10
I'm not going to promise you I'm right, but I'm a much bigger believer in Royce than Westburg. I write more about Westburg in today's Big Hype Prospects (which I'll submit shortly after this chat).

I have Mateo rostered for SBs in my AL-only, traditional Roto league. Concerned about his playing time and production moving forward. Any emerging SB threats I should focus on in the AL?
Brad Johnson
1:11
Dairon Blanco could be worth a flier. I wouldn't drop Mateo for him just yet.
1:12
Samad Taylor has poor EVs but might have enough Luis Arraez in him to make it work. I'm pessimistic, but he's a perfectly fine flier too
1:13
Cooper Hummel feels like he should be playing at least occasionally for the Ms rather than in Triple-A.
1:14
Get those rare C SBs, maybe. That's one for the watchlist.
1:15
If the Angels recent moves don't work out, Trey Cabbage does a fair amount of running and seems like an upgrade on Walsh.
1:16
I'm sure I'm missing someone, but that's about all I scraped up on short notice. Doesn't seem like the Red Sox have any intentions of promoting David Hamilton.
Brad
1:16
Ryan Adcock worth a hold for 24 team dynasty. We are rebuilding this year
Brad Johnson
1:20
Looking into it. You mean Cody Adcock, right?
1:22
I'm not finding any indication he'll be picked in the first round, which is the general threshold I use for rostering prospects pre-draft.
If you mean Ty Adcock, I think he's an interesting reliever, but I don't expect anything incredible out of him.
Not Tom

Hamilton is currently on the Red Sox, although he’ll probably go down whenever Pablo Reyes returns
Brad Johnson
1:23
Welp! Missed that completely

Hey Brad,  what is your take on the Escobar & Moustakis acquisitions by the Halos?  A net plus, or simply "by necessity" moves?
Brad Johnson
1:25
I think they're nice gambles for a team that really didn't have other options. Escobar in particular was a savvy pickup at a minimal cost. He's a nice core performer who wasn't getting to play only due to a sloppy April. He's been playing well since then.
I think Moustakas won't really work out long-term, but it might give them some short-term options.
Brad
1:25
What kind of value should Ryan Noda bring back in a trade?
Brad Johnson
1:26
I really don't know. I have him all over the place, and I'm just holding. Not getting any inquiries.
1:27
He really reminds me of peak Jack Cust, so TTO
He has the EVs to go on a homer binge. Great for OBP leagues, meh for AVG.
1:29
In this case, where there isn't a consensus "value" floating out in the ether, assess what he's doing for your roster then ask for the same impact in different categories/position.
