Scherzer

Expectations for Mad Max in Texas?
Brad Johnson
1:33
Almost identical to NYM. Around a 3.50-4.25 ERA, 1.10-1.20 WHIP, too many HR, good K-rate, good W-rate.
-er pitchers
1:33
Framber vs. Scherzer ROS?
Brad Johnson
1:34
Oof, I want to say Framber because he was SO much better just a month ago. I'm really not sure today. Kind of talking myself into selling my Framber share, even though he's one of my favorite pitchers.
Reds
1:34
24 team dynasty. Rebuilding team. Do I dump Seth Brown for prospects?
Brad Johnson
1:34
You can get plural prospects for Seth Brown?
I'm not sure the A's can get actual prospects for Brown in a MUCH deeper format.
1:36
Snark aside, yes, there's no reason to hang onto Brown in a rebuild. I just don't see why a contender would want him. A real club can talk themselves into using him in ~50-100 highly scripted PA ROS, mostly as a PH. Fantasy managers are looking at like 5 starts where he *might* be better than their existing options.

I traded JD Martinez and Your Favorite William Contreras for Kyle Tucker--- Did I make a mistake?
Brad Johnson
1:37
Nope, no mistakes there. Congrats on an easy on-paper win.

Is Iriate a reliever prospect now?
Brad Johnson
1:38
Jairo Iriarte?
1:39
I have to be honest, he isn't on my radar at all. It does seem like he's being used as a reliever now. It could be an innings-management decision. He only threw 91 last year, and he's at 68 this year. It's probably a role-switch.
1:40
Some public reports I scared up suggest I need to ask around about this guy
OldHack
1:40
5x5 roto, weekly transactions, 11-team, NL + Astros player pool, $260 auction budget. Would you extend the following players @ $5/year: B Stott ($12), N Hoerner ($8), S Suzuki ($16) F Lindor ($25)?
Brad Johnson
1:42
Is the number in parentheses the keeper cost, or do I need to add $5?
1:44
Hoerner's the only sure-fire yes for me right now. I think you'll want to check back on where the dust clears for the others. Suzuki feels the closest to a no. I'd probably find room for Stott and trade Lindor (now if I'm not contending, later if I am).
Probably don't want that much budget invested in middle infielders who lack huge categories.
Even if the investments add up.
Yo-yo
1:45
I'm in a tight fight for first in my AL-only league—so my horizon is short, not keeper. I need to drop one starter out of Brayan Bello, Dean Kremer, Framber Valdez (who's had a terrible month), Kyle Bradish, Tarik Skubal, and Bryce Miller. Who's the least reliable for the rest of this year?
Brad Johnson
1:46
My vote is Kremer. It's not that he's least reliable, it's that he's reliably below average in every category except W-rate. He might actually be most reliable, in a mediocre way.
1:47
Could also try to trade Framber and Miller/Bello/Bradish for like Cole, Castillo, or Gausman.
If the concern is that Framber's suddenly unsafe (too soon to tell), then make a decisive move.

1:47
What role will J Westburg have going forward with the Orioles?
Brad Johnson
1:48
I really don't know. He's a MLB starter, but he's kind of fringy for that roster long-term. I think he's offseason trade bait. The guys who will eventually supplant him aren't ready yet.
For now, he'll continue in a part-time role.

1:49
Who gets bounced from Rangers starting rotation with their new additions?
Brad Johnson
1:50
Should be Martin Perez, but it'll probably be Dane Dunning moving back to relief.
Then when Eovaldi is back, whichever of Perez/Dunning didn't get demoted the first time.
With some chance they try to prep Heaney as a postseason leverage reliever.
1:51
Playoff rotation is Eovaldi/Scherzer/Monty/Gray.
Used Ford
1:52
What's your take on the well-used Mike Ford. Has he taken on a new life as the Mariner's low-BA but HR-a-week DH? Or are the homers a chimera, a fantasy, a mirage, a hallucination?
Brad Johnson
1:53
My theory is he's exploiting his scouting report. His approach is completely different from past versions of himself. These sorts of adjustments are usually a last hurrah, especially when accompanied by a 35% K-rate. The scouting report will catch up, and he'll pumpkinize. Doesn't mean you can't try to ride the wave.
Ken M
1:54
Is CJ Abrams recent breakout for real? Where would you rank him amongst SS for the remainder of the season?
Brad Johnson
1:55
I think he's finding a comfort zone, but the lack of discipline doesn't leave me encouraged about a hypothetical future when opposing pitchers are actually trying to get him out. Presently, half his PA come in pitch-to-contact situations.
Nobody's bearing down to get him out. Like, if he was playing in the postseason, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go 0-for-25.
1:56
If you pay attention to the postseason, you'll often see guys who are perfectly relevant in the regular season get completely exposed.
For fantasy purposes, his SBs are great
1:57
He's probably around SS-15 give or take a few. Thairo Estrada territory.
Packages
1:57
Comparing packages: Semien, Romano (and Salvy or Framber) vs. Kirk, G. Santos, Gleyber. AL only, OBP league.
