Who are the best non-closer relievers currently? Joel Payamps is having a lights-out season. Anyone else come to mind?
Brad Johnson
2:13
In terms of actual production, the most valuable non-closer is indeed Payamps. Next tier down you'll find Hector Neris, Kevin Ginkel, Tyler Holton, Tanner Scott, Colin Poche, Aroldis Chapman, and Brusdar Graterol.
2:14
I happen to think Bryan Abreu and Matt Brash are two of the best non-closers. Also, whoever is setting up for Craig Kimbrel on a given day. Phillies have a lot of talent in that (once again) underperforming bullpen.
Paul Skenes
2:15
I picked up Paul Skenes on waivers becuase I was looking for a high end pitching stash that was near the MLB level and every other option is already rostered in my league.  I've gotten a couple of trade inquiries already, how legit do you think Skenes will be vs. the hype?  Would you recommend holding or cashing in now while his value is very high?

I'd probably hold. Even if he doesn't develop, he's an easy mid-rotation arm. Probably already their best SP without throwing an inning.

It's much easier for me to trade someone I recently acquired than it is for me to trade a player I've had for several years in dynasty.  Do I need to see a fantasy sports therapist?

You are suffering from the dreaded disease gingivitis Endowment Effect. It is a lifelong affliction.
2:18
Look at it this way. Fantasy baseball is about winning, but it's also about "owning" a team with the guys you like. So, if you like those guys you dev, you should find enjoyment from the game. You'll... probably win less often than you otherwise might.

When Tellez comes back will he be productive or should we expect a continuation of what we saw this season so far?
Brad Johnson
2:18
He's so volatile. All I can do is shrug.
fantasy team names
2:19
What are some of the better fantasy team names you've come across over the years?  Do you prefer to name teams after players on the roster or go with something broader?
Brad Johnson
2:19
Team names tend not to stick with me for long. I remember a few of mine though.
I'm particularly fond of Encarnacion Instant Breakfast
2:20
I have a team named Civale War (originally named for the movie, now for... other reasons)
My newest is Elly Downloadable Content

I do believe you should have the player in question in order to claim the name. Some allowance for keeping the name post-trade.
As I did with my team Slapdick Prospectors Inc. (we had Xavier Edwards at the time of the infamous Slapdick trade)

This is my 2nd question... and it's a complex one... so feel free to ignore... I won't be hurt...  my roto league had a constitutional crisis this week... those of us on the exec committee noticed a contradiction in our rules which may come into play in the last month... One rule says you must maintain a roster of active major leaguers; another rule says if you run of FAAB, you cannot acquire players except via waivers.  So we felt we needed to consult the owners to get guidance on how to handle if a team has an inactive player who has to be replaced, has no FAAB money, and no one is available on waivers.  Small chance it happens, but we didnt want to have to resolve in the final weeks of the season.   Regardless, the conversation triggered a cacophony of complaints about changing the rules mid-season.   Have you ever participated in a league which had to resolve a rule contradiction in-season?  Any good stories?

Many times.
I had such a situation this year.
2:25
One of the lesser-known Ottoneu rules is similar - you have to maintain a full MLB lineup. There's no built-in mechanic to enforce the rule, and it's not something most leagues observe. In FanGraphs Staff 2, Marc Hulet often ran rosters of 30+ prospects (40-man roster). The Prestige League players usually have fewer than 5 RP. So, there's precedent to ignore this rule.
2:27
In May or June, I traded $33 Matt Olson for Manzardo, Julien, and Pfaadt. I'm having a rebuild year with like 20 top prospects on my roster. With Olson gone, I had no active 1B. The waiver wire had nobody worth rostering. The guy I traded Olson to immediately called me out for using Manzardo as my 1B.
It turned into a whole thing because I took my sweet time resolving the issue.
2:28
Problem was, 1B were way overrostered by some teams and they felt they had "leverage" to ask for valuable players in exchange for someone I didn't even want to roster like CJ Cron or Jose Abreu. I did eventually bite the bullet and trade Henry Davis for Cron.
2:29
The answer to your situation, imo, is to require the players to use the waivers system if they can and to otherwise wait.

Any thoughts on your preference for ROS?  Chris Sale or Dane Dunning.  Need Ws and Ks.  Thanks very much.
Brad Johnson

Sale's the high ceiling play, Dunning, surprisingly, might be the higher floor option. Choose whichever you need to chase more.

Thanks for playing everyone! Time to write about some Big Hype Prospects.
