Elias seems to have a special talent for farm dev. They really ought to replace him with a Dombrowski type now and let him rebuild the Tigers or White Sox.
1:55
(I'm fascinated by the idea of specialist baseball ops leaders, too many try to handle every phase despite only showing a knack for one)

I jettisoned Jorge Mateo in my AL-only league, even though I’m in need of speed. He just wasn’t playing. I replaced him with Blanco. Wise move and who else should I be looking at for steals?
Brad Johnson
1:56
I think that's a fair move. Blanco doesn't play a ton either, but he's probably the best SB/PA option on the wire. And he's also probably a slightly better hitter than Mateo (it's close)

B Pfaadt - outlook for ROS - and 2024- seems to be “gaining on it” but can’t quite turn the corner ( at least one bad inning) appreciate your thoughts !
Brad Johnson
1:56
Yea, I look at him as a dev project.
1:57
This is the SP profile that walks a fine line between starting and relieving, especially when contention is happening alongside his dev.
Presently, they need him more as a SP, but if that ever changes, he could bump to relief permanently despite SP-ish skills.

do the LA Angels currently have any of their minor league players ready to be call up this season
Brad Johnson

But this is close enough! Lemme peruse

Trey Cabbage is the guy I want to see. Kind of a Quad-A profile, but he could be kinda cool in fantasy in a Corey Julks-pre-0-for-40-some-slump kind of way.

Nolan Schanuel might debut in his draft year (see my Zach Neto comment in today's article)! Especially if they fight their way back.
they have some middle RP caliber arms hanging around

Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya seems to be the whole package and is finally healthy.  As a $1 keeper in 5x5 roto NL only, what do you think?
Brad Johnson
2:01
I'm not enthusiastic, but I do think he's a fine flier for $1. Solves a traditionally "difficult" position at no cost. You might want to dedicate a bench spot for a second $1 C at the beginning of next season. Someone you hope to later cut because Amaya's playing so much.

Hi, Brad.  5x5 league w/ SV+HD instead of just SV. I could use W and K, have solid leads in ratios.  Should I roll with Braxton Garrett's two-step this week, home vs HOU + at LAD or go with boring MR Andrew Chafin to maybe get a hold or two?  Thanks.
Brad Johnson
2:02
If you're comfy with your ratio leads, I'd go for the Ws and Ks.

Is Robert Suarez still the likely Padres closer next year if they trade Hader away?
Brad Johnson
2:03
I'm guessing this came in before I answered a similar question earlier.
I think it's Barlow over Suarez, but they'll both be in the mix (and enough to convince the Pads to focus on other priorities)

Is McClanahan keepable at this point, even in leagues like mine where you keep 2 pitchers and 2 hitters only (no salary/time considerations)?  I kept him and Verlander coming into this season and it looks like I may have to start over (no pun intended) with my pitching.
Brad Johnson
2:04
I'd try to put off that decision as long as possible.
Toss him on the IL for now and see how it's sounding in February.
2:05
Even if his elbow explodes in April, keeping him in your format is probably a better gambit than say Marcus Stroman. Obviously, if your alternatives are a lot better than a mid-tier arm, that changes the calculus.

What is the likelihood that Joe Musgrove pitches again this year...and if not, what is his prognosis for 2024?
Brad Johnson
2:06
Decent? I'm not up on the exact issue. He's expected to ramp up again around the end of the month. We'll know pretty fast then.
2:07
As for next year, shoulder injuries are so fickle. They tend to not like the 5-man rotation, but the Pads do have the personnel to get him extra rest.
Dave
2:07
Who ls likely to have better numbers in the 2024 season, D. Cease, W. Buehler or J. Musgrove?
Brad Johnson
2:07
I'll guess Buehler. Pretty much the same asset class though - good pitchers, glaring issues.

Better retainable for 2024:  Teo Hernandez, C. Walker, or E. Jimenez?
Brad Johnson
2:07
I'd go for Eloy. Chasing the magic still rather than the fading olds.
2:08
Again, same asset class so any choice is defensible
Wander
2:08
Any inside info? I can’t IL him while he’s restricted, and I’m going to be really hampered on streamers with a clogged roster spot
Brad Johnson
2:08
I've asked around and heard nothing in response, sorry.

Regarding the "A's 'should' have someone …" how about Zach Jackson?
Brad Johnson

That's a big bold MEH

Hey Brad, thanks for these chats.  Do you think that either Evan Carter or Colt Keith will be brought up to the "big team(s)" this year?
Brad Johnson
2:10
Keith might get a taste. Carter not going to Triple-A yet leads me to think he's being eased toward a 2025 debut. I don't have good Rangers coverage so I don't have anyone to ask if this is an old school club control decision or a response to their Triple-A environment.
