Fantasy Baseball Chat with Brad Johnson

(but that's partly due to the formats I play and his lack of availability)
He's batting .254/.348/.542 since his demotion, good for a 113 wRC+. That's OK.
M's dilemma

So Kelenic shouold be back early next month. Other than the fact that he depresses everyone around him with his personality, should I keep Cade Marlowe or Kelenic for this year and next?
Brad Johnson
1:27
Marlowe has interesting fantasy stats in the minors, but his skills don't really map well to the Majors. I see him as an interesting backup irl.
My dog is doing the thing he does when he's thinking about peeing inside, so I'll be back...
1:33
Well, that didn't work. might need to pop out again later.

5x5 roto, I'm in a battle for first, overall and in wins with the same other owner.  I'm unlikely to move up or down in SV.  Do I bench Finnegan this week to get 2 starts from A. Cobb?  He's home vs. CIN and @SD.  ERA and Ks don't really matter, slightly nervous about a couple of WHIP blowups.  Thanks again.
Brad Johnson
1:35
Yea, that's tough since he's so BABIP reliant and the Giants infield is kinda messy
1:36
I tend to default to taking a shot when in doubt, but you could research how the Reds and Pads perform against GB pitchers in particular.
Since I'm not doing DFS anymore, I'm not tracking that sort of information.

Can you rank Tanner Houck, Xzavion Curry, and Gavin Williams in terms of performance for the rest of the year and next year? I gotta dump one of them.
Brad Johnson
1:37
Curry's the guy I would dump. He's the least talented and most actualized. I don't like that he's left his low-leverage bulk role where his approach plays up because the hitters aren't trying quite as much.
1:38
Williams is easily the best, though he could fatigue or hit an innings cap down the stretch
I like Houck, but he hasn't quite figured everything out yet.
He's DJ
1:38
OBP only league: Luis Urias+Paxton vs. DJ Lemahieu+Littel?
Brad Johnson
1:39
I like DJLM more than Urias and the pitchers are a push for me.
1:40
Paxton has more category upside, Littel is a little safer
Little by Littel
1:40
Littel's sparkle seems to have worn off. I've got a deepish AL only rotation (Castillo, Scherzer, Woo, Ober, Rodon) and only 30-odd starts left allowed. Should I cut Littel for a middle reliever/bench bat, or is he worth holding for occasional streams (CLE this week)?
Brad Johnson
1:41
The key is making leverageable moves. When you have something lined up that pushes the needle more than Littel, that's when you make the move. Just from those 5 names you listed, you're not a lock to make those 30+ starts.

Hey Brad, thanks for doing these chats.  In an AL-only 5x5 (one catcher) league, for the ROS only, is Conner Wong or Danny Jansen the better option.  BA is not contestable, but points can be gained in HR.  Again, thanks.
Brad Johnson
1:42
In that case, it's Jansen.

Brad ponders question: Answer a fantasy question or let the dog pee?
Brad Johnson
1:43
The dog is now asleep behind me after sampling several random leaves in the backyard and refusing to pee or eat.
I can never figure out what he needs.
Hunter Goodman
1:44
What percentage chance does he start 100 games (regardless of whether at 1B, catcher, OF or DH) for Rockies in 2024?
Brad Johnson
1:44
Oh, I can't even begin to guess this. 15%
1:45
It's highly dependent on what he does ROS while the door is wide open. He's not like a REAL prospect. But opportunists sometimes carve out a decent career. Not that they're physically similar, but Adolis Garcia was describable with the same language not so long ago.
1:46
Frank Schwindel looked like he made it then vanished. Patrick Wisdom sorta held on.
Question Mark
1:46
Is 2B TORONTO Schreiber going to get at bats to be fantasy relevant?
Brad Johnson
1:46
In the very short term, yes. We're still awaiting severity on Bo and Chapman's injuries.
MikeD
1:47
Do either of Lawrence Butler and Parker Meadows have fantasy value in an AL-only roto league?
Brad Johnson
1:47
Not trade value, but they do check a box if you need warm bodies. Butler has good EV metrics with a bit of HR power/speed mixed in.
1:48
I don't think Meadows is going to make enough contact to matter, but he also has the power/speed to contribute above his weight class

France (HOU) & Schmidt (NYY). With Houston on a 6-man rotation and the Yankees with so many pitching questions, are both likely to get 5 or 6 more starts this season? If not, what is your guess?
Brad Johnson
1:51
I don't know if the Yankees care enough about Schmidt's health to bother shutting him down. He should be in the rotation if active
1:52
My sense for the Astros is they'll move Urquidy to the bullpen or option him.
1:53
I don't especially like France fwiw, and it's possible he's hitting a wall after that meltdown a few days back.
1:54
He's done enough to merit a chance to rebound though. Whereas Urquidy's just been bad/hurt all year.
MikeD
1:54
With all the initial hype, it felt as if Jason Dominguez was overhyped and fans lost interest when he didn’t blow the doors off. Is he now under rated as a fantasy option?
Brad Johnson
1:54
He WAS overhyped
