Brad Johnson

You know, that's an interesting question because I could argue both sides of it.
1:28
I think he resembles a player we would have called a star in the past. I also think he'll be outshined by a lot of other, more talented players.
It's a shame he seemingly sucks in the outfield

Do you see MLB increasing roster size? Pitchers are pitching less innings, teams love platoon matchups, game clock has sped up games way more than the minimum 3 batter rule, 6 man rotations and 3 catchers gaining popularity, and 5 option limits all make bigger rosters seem inevitable to me
Brad Johnson
1:29
Not of their own accord, but they'll use it as a bargaining measure eventually.
TBone

You like the Sears double dip as much as I do?
Brad Johnson
1:29
It's fine. Do you like it more than that?

Bulk pitching has really change FBB in the last few years. I"m currently in a championship match where we both really comb twitter and notes to see who's bulking. IT'S TOO MUCH! It's becoming too complicated for the regular baseball fan and I"m hoping we don't lose owners. It's not even close to akin to managing a team anymore. What do you think about it and what rules do you think would make bulk pitcher-hunting less common? H2H league, straight points, 7 starting pitchers limit.
Brad Johnson
1:31
You could limit weekly moves. My home dynasty does a 22-team regular season and 12-team H2H playoff. 5 moves per week all year. Granted, there isn't MUCH on the wire, but you can still find the odd "gem" like Ben Lively's bulk outing last week.
If you're move constrained, then the bulk man is less attractive since they're usually a minus in ERA/WHIP.

Strike out stuff looks legit. Do you think he’ll make the playoff roster? Is he a long term starter or more like a Mitch White type?
Brad Johnson
1:32
I think he's a reliever. 2 pitch guy.

What is noelvi martres ceiling next year, hes looking really good right now
Brad Johnson
1:34
I think it's a little early to expect consistency from him, but the *ceiling* is first-round caliber output. I don't really expect him to figure out lift over the offseason so the likelier outcome is 15 HR, good run production, .280 AVG, 30 SBs.

We have 8 minor league players to stash and I have 6 at the moment. Any deep pick ups you have stashed away that aren't the normal top 50 minors?
Brad Johnson
1:36
Most of my guys are longer-time horizon types. If you can afford to wait on guys like Rafi Ramirez and Luis Lara, they could really pop in the coming years.
1:37
Closer to hand, Zach Dezenzo keeps coming up when I talk to folks.
A bunch of the second tier 1st rounders from this year are of interest
Carlos Hernandez
1:37
I've been holding Carlos Hernandez as a possible keeper in AL Only, but he's so bad these days. I've got a cushion in saves. Should I bench and hold for next year or just cut and grab some better RP?
Brad Johnson
1:38
If you're competing, I'd move on and not worry about those few pennies you dropped along the way.
Astros concerns
1:38
Hey Brad, thanks for these again this season. Wondering if I should drop any of Ragans, Framber or Gavin Williams next week for Ober who might have a 2 start vs KC/@Col
Brad Johnson
1:38
If there's no keeper consideration, I'd drop Ragans for him.
Angels
1:39
What are your thoughts on picking up Nolan Schanuel?
Brad Johnson
1:39
He's a guy
1:40
Long term, you hope he's Luis Arraez. Because he doesn't hit for power or run.
I should note, he has discipline so it's an OBP-forward profile rather than a batting title guy like Arraez.
Billies Beans and Beer
1:40
what cities get the next two mlb teams?
Brad Johnson
1:41
If we're not counting Las Vegas...I think it should be Nashville and Oakland. I think it'll actually be Nashville and Salt Lake.
Astros concerns
1:42
Is Michael King pitching his way into next year's rotation?
Brad Johnson
1:42
I think they'll plan to have him in the bullpen and feel more comfortable with him as the sixth guy once an injury arises.
Erik
1:43
Would you start Eury Perez, Bobby Miller, or Hunter Greene where Ks did not matter, but wins, ERA, and WHIP do.  I could also start Ian Hamilton as an SP/RP to help me with holds (separate category in our league)?
Brad Johnson
1:43
I don't have their matchups memorized, but you have them listed in my order of general preference. Greene is a DISTANT third for me.
Rule changes
1:44
How do you feel about the rule changes this year? Do you think it’s increased injuries in pitchers and do you think the clock has affected Nola’s performance this year.
Brad Johnson
1:45
I can't imagine it didn't increase injuries just because pitchers had to learn something new. I've seen some attempt to prove the causal link, and those fail the smell test.
1:46
And just because injuries are up this year doesn't mean they'll remain up now that this new norm is established. It'll be years before we can fully digest the implications of the pitch clock on pitcher health.
As for Nola in particular. I'd have to investigate his time to the plate in the past. He wasn't on my red flag list entering the season.

All aboard the Gipson - Long bandwagon for fantasy semifinals (and hopefully final)
Brad Johnson
1:48
He's getting hyped, that's for sure. He wasn't on my radar and didn't exactly pitch well in Triple-A.
Do not use him in Ottoneu FGpts. He's so homer prone historically.
Bring back the loogy
1:48
Now that the game is faster, we can bring back the loogy right?
