In the sense that Black hasn't debuted and Peterson's career is mostly behind him, sure, the ceiling is higher. But, if someone was laying odds that Black has a better career than Peterson, I'd take Peterson.
2:22
That's not to say Black isn't interesting. It's just a profile that doesn't usually find regular reps. Expansion would greatly help his case, replacement level is getting a little out of control.

Championship week for me. H2H categories, drop Mark Canha and pick up Friedl and hope he stays hot?
Brad Johnson
2:23
Yet another floor (Canha) or ceiling (Friedl) decision. I'd probably go for it in this case. Good chance you can pivot back to Canha midweek.

Is Isaac Paredes break out season is what we're expecting from him now?
Brad Johnson
2:24
I'm not sure there's a big performance I believe in less. 50 HR in 929 PA the last two seasons, and my HR calc still projects like 19 HR  per 600 PA.
2:25
I kinda get next Cavan Biggio vibes. Has such extreme batted ball outcomes and secretly poor contact quality.
Time for me to wrap it up.

Of the players that began their MLB career in 2023, who is the top guy going forward?   Is it the Reds kid?
Brad Johnson
2:27
For fantasy, probably. Just look at Bobby Witt Jr. He's making a routine of top 10 performances with very average-looking wRC+s.

IRL, it's a little more complicated. Might be someone like PCA who can post +15 defense.
Thank you!

Always love these chats and your articles! Sad to see you go.
Blackburn
2:28
How deep a league would it need to be to start Blackburn vs. MIN? 15-team or Marianna Trench?
Brad Johnson
2:28
I think that's plausible for 15-team, assuming you need something from the start.
Kirby
2:28
You pitching Kirby for his two starts this week? Shaky lately and tough match ups.
Brad Johnson
2:28
Probably, pending need. It's all about need. Play to your outs and such.

What are your thoughts of keeping an injured pitcher like Shane McClanahan on a roster over other current rookies and/or young arms such as Bobby Miller, Hunter Greene, Gavin Williams.  It seems like it will be tough to justify keeping McClanahan … but he’s been such an asset to my team.
Brad Johnson
2:30
In this case, the opportunity cost is high enough that I probably want to take one of the active guys. I do think dynasty managers can make the mistake of valuing shiny pitching prospects over proven TJS vets. We'll wait 4 years for a prospect, but a 16 month injury is too long.

Bench Steele at Atlanta?
Brad Johnson
2:32
I'm hemming and hawing
2:33
I'll go with the standby - what are your outs? You might HAVE to use him.

re: keeping an injured McClanahan...The answer to too many keepers is always to trade and consolidate.
Brad Johnson
2:33
True, if trading is an option, that's your first step.
Not all leagues have offseason trading though.

Who will replace you with fantastic baseball chat now you're gone? Sad to see you go with your expertise
Brad Johnson
2:35
I'm not sure! But I've offered to help recruit my replacement since Tim is less familiar with the fantasy scene than me. We'll probably put that off for a few months.
I'll also continue Big Hype Prospects through the AFL season. I've offered a few ideas for ways to evolve that column.

Thanks again for all your great advice.  In a 5X5 Category dynasty league, I can only keep two players.  Who would you keep:  Jordan Walker, Triston Casas, Riley Greene, or a prospect like Jackson Chourio or James Wood.
Brad Johnson
2:37
I really want Casas, I think he's Matt Olson redux. From there, I go back and forth between Walker and Chourio. Just remember, Chourio probably doesn't have much of an effect on next season.

I will miss Your Fantasy Baseball Insight !!! Great Luck with Your Writing

I'll miss y'all too. It's so hard to walk away from something in which I've dedicated so much time and effort. I like being an "expert." I'll miss these chats most of all. The closest thing I get to an actual fantasy baseball conversation outside of FPAZ-like events.

And on that bittersweet note, it's time to close the doors. Farewell.
