Fantasy Baseball Chat with Brad Johnson: 6/6/22

I don't really see a Benintendi comp, but Carroll is very special.
12:25
I think the Diamondbacks know they have a lot to figure out with their MLB outfield so they're in no rush to add Carroll to the mix. They have the luxury of making sure he's not going to slide into a slump as soon as he starts to tire out.
12:26
The MLB outfield includes Varsho (currently catching), Peralta, Alek Thomas, Pavin Smith, Jake McCarthy, Cooper Hummel, and Jordan Luplow.
12:27
These are all true MLB-caliber players and they probably want to get a read on which of Smith/McCarthy/Hummel should be kept around.
They'll have to set someone free.
Sammy Sooser AND Mike McGwire
12:27
Is today the day we get Italian Breakfast in KC?
Brad Johnson
12:28
They're signaling a promotion will come soon. I saw some comments about Santana needing to adjust to life on the bench.
12:29
Now, it probably should be Pasquantino who gets the call, but it could be Nick Pratto too. He's also MLB-ready, he just profiles as a streakier hitter. Lot of similarities to Kyle Schwarber as a hitter.
12:30
Or, they might bafflingly stick with Dozier at 1B and Emmanuel Rivera at 3B. Rivera's just a replacement level or slightly better guy.

Killian worth a spot in dynasty, heard the stuff+ model wasn’t sold in him
Brad Johnson
12:30
I think so. I haven't watched his outing closely yet.
12:31
The scouting reports are quite favorable. I'm always easy to sell on guys with a strikeout per inning, tolerable walks, and over 50 percent ground balls.
12:32
Sets a high floor and few barriers to fantasy-acedom.
Trade
12:32
Yepez for B Reynolds?
Brad Johnson
12:32
Yea, I'd want the Reynolds side still. Though I do love Yepez. The Cards have a logjam so he's at risk of losing starts if he ever slows down.
David Hamilton
12:33
I’m robbing the Eastern league blind, I’m ready for the show, put me in coach I’ll steal you 50 by the end of the year!
Brad Johnson
12:33
Hamilton is a neat Peripheral Prospect. However, I'm not at all sold on his readiness beyond as a base thief
12:34
He's batting .247/.317/.424 at Double-A which works out to a 101 wRC+. He should probably move up to Triple-A though.
Maybe he is ready now that I think on it.
12:35
At least, he's probably as ready as he'll ever be.
Rad Johnson
12:36
Are you seeing anything with Brady Singer that makes you think he's actually improved?  Kinda looks like the same sinker / slider guy we've always seen with a few ineffective changeups thrown in.
Brad Johnson
12:36
He's pushing the changeups more, but I agree they aren't a great pitch for him
That said, he didn't need to improve to be useful in 12-team mixed and deeper
12:37
He's another of those ground ball guys I like. Would be a great bulk reliever for the Rays.
Winder what you think
12:37
Is Josh Winder going to be useful going forward in 12 and 16 team leagues?  Seen him make hitters look silly, but is his stuff good enough to survive hitter adjustments?
Brad Johnson
12:38
He fits comfortably in 16-teamers. More of a streamer in 12-team imo.
He should be back from injury sometime soon - role unclear.
12:39
Something to keep in mind. He's a fly ball pitcher and HR rates are starting to go wild.
12:40
I know everyone said "oh, the balls are dead," but I've believed all along we were seeing a humidor effect.
Bello
12:40
Knock, knock, hello anybody there? You watching this? I’m ready for the show! What’s the hold up? I know you need me!
Brad Johnson
12:41
I agree, the only question is if he takes Garrett Whitlock's role in the rotation or the bullpen. Either way, calling him up is an effort to improve the relief corps.
Rad Johnson
12:41
Odds Ezequiel Duran can hold the 3B job long-term in Texas?  Is it just a question of him hitting enough?
Brad Johnson
12:41
Pretty poor, especially if long-term means beyond this season.
12:42
I do think he can hit enough in the medium term to stay in the lineup while supply a little something in every fantasy category.
For that reason, he's an interesting target.

Since Christian Yelich hit his cycle on May 11, he has 1 RBI and is now 0 - June.  The Brewers keep saying his exit velocity and barrel rates are great, but at some point production matters correct?
Brad Johnson
12:42
Sure. But what do you think they should do about it?
12:43
He's still an above average, albeit overpaid player.
They can't trade that contract. They can't sit him because he's better than Tyrone Taylor/LoCain types
