Fantasy Baseball Chat with Brad Johnson: 8/1/22

I'd guess the Brewers will play matchups with Rogers and Williams in the late-innings.
12:29
Let's not forget, the Brewers are the Rays. They just haven't been doing the Rays bullpen antics because they have two massively elite relievers.
As for Ruiz, I perceive Milwaukee to be a good place for him to get a consistent role of some kind.
12:30
For leagues with daily lineups, might be a situation where we need to check on a daily basis for awhile until we understand whatever pattern they're following
As a irl player, he might be a little bland, but he should compile big fantasy numbers.

When is Giolito droppable in 12 team roto leagues?
Brad Johnson
12:31
A drop is basically a trade. So, if you're getting back a better player and you don't have a worse player to drop, then Giolito can go.
I'm not holding out hope of a rebound this year personally.

Any idea when Miguel Vargas gets promoted?  Or is it more likely he is traded?
Brad Johnson
12:33
On the trade side, it depends what tier of player they're aiming to add. He's having a decent but unexceptional season at Triple-A. Not sure the Dodgers will want him learning the ropes, but they have plenty of cushion in the standings if they think he needs to be ready for the postseason.
I know the stats LOOK pretty nuts, but it's only a 119 wRC+ (19% above average) because of the run environment.

Is DL Hall on the horizon for the Orioles? Picked him up last week after Wells went to IL thinking he was a logical replacement.
Brad Johnson
12:35
He's coming off two disaster outings. Kind of doing a Jekyll and Hyde thing right now so I have some doubts he'll come up tis season. If he does, I see him as more of a bulk reliever type. Or maybe an Opener.

Thoughts on the fantasy value of Peralta in TB?  Better than AZ?
Brad Johnson
12:36
The Rays are masters at maximizing their players. So, on a rate basis, I do expect him to be better in TB. But I also think he might play less.
Bro'Neill
12:36
Tyler O'neill's long term value?  He was just dropped in my shallow dynasty league.  I'm a contender now, but is he worth a pickup anyway?
Brad Johnson
12:36
Since returning from his first injury in June, he's batting .286/.358/.429
12:37
I think he's worth picking up and making a decision on later. But that obviously depends on your specific needs and who you'd cut.
Esteury Ruiz might be a better add

Are you bullish or bearish on Kyle Lewis moving forward?
Brad Johnson
12:38
A little bearish short term just because he can't seem to get going this year. And the M's have given him LOOOONG rehab stints which seemingly says something about their opinion of him - even when they've needed OFers in the Majors.
12:39
Beyond this year, neither bullish nor bearish. Think he'll be a useful player who performs like a 150-250th pick.

Do you think the hader trade could take the padres out of the picture for Soto?
Brad Johnson
12:39
Not necessarily. The pieces they used wouldn't have been the most attractive to the Nats.

Any hope for Lance Lynn ?
Brad Johnson
12:41
Yea, absolutely. He's not a complex pitcher, he can figure it out. Mostly, he needs to add some velo. Might be happening.
Average velo has trended upwards in five straight outings - albeit very slowly.

Is Yepez going to be an everyday Stud or Dud
Brad Johnson
12:41
Neither. He's a solid hitter without a clear defensive fit in St. Louis.
If they acquire Soto, he's in that trade.

Does Kelenic have a chance this go-round?
Brad Johnson
12:42
I did an eval of him a few days ago and decided against trying to buy low.
12:43
That's not to say there's no chance, but he has some Major flaws to overcome. Namely breaking ball recognition.

SP1 from tomorrow to the end of the season?
Brad Johnson
12:43
So we hope
I have a couple teams that desperately need the boost

I need help in all pitching categories. Looking at SP options this week, I can start 4 of these 6: Ashby vs CIN, Cueto @ TEX, Snell vs COL, Lauer @ PIT, Cobb vs LAD, Wood vs LAD. Planning to sit the Alexes vs Dodgers to improve odds of wins and ratios. Ks are probably least needed category? Agree or change?
Brad Johnson
12:44
Well Ashby and Snell are the easy yeses
12:45
So in that we seem to agree. I'm... less sure about using Cueto and Lauer. They're pretty bland. If you check out Lauer's stats since offense returned in mid-May, he's like a 4.50 ERA guy. And it checks out.
12:46
I find myself wanting to fit in Cobb but not Wood
