For anyone interested, I also wanted to pass along my overall strategy to this season as a whole. The link is posted above. My strategy includes a heavy emphasis on starting pitchers. Anyways, let's get started

What's the highest  you would select Cole or DeGrom in a H2H points league?  Thanks!
AvatarBrendan Tuma

In a points league the Big 3 SPs are in play for No. 1 overall. I'd recommend it, in fact

Bread and Butter....Nola or Bauer
AvatarBrendan Tuma
1:03
I have Bauer as my SP4 after the Big 3 of Cole, deGrom, Bieber (in any order you'd like). I understand why people are nervous with Bauer's season-to-season volatility, but it's pretty clear he was using something sticky last season, and I don't see why he wouldn't continue doing so. For the record, everyone is using sticky substances so until MLB cracks down on this Bauer is doing no wrong

which Oriole will have a better fantasy season? Mountcastle or Mancini?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
1:05
According to the latest FantasyPros consensus ADP, these two are going within 12 picks of each other. Mountcastle is going earlier between the two, but I think I'd rather have Mancini. He's fully healthy after missing 2020 due to Stage 3 colon cancer. I have some worries that his 2019 breakout was fueled by the mega-juiced ball, but he's a big target of mine in drafts right now

12 team Roto 5x5 OBP. Keep 3. Tatis is one. Who should be other two from among Nola, Robert, Albies, Arenado, Ozuna and Kershaw?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
1:07
Man this is tough! Definitely Nola, no debate there. Robert is too risky for me with other great options. It comes down to Albies and Kershaw. I'm all about high-end SPs this year so I'm going to say Kershaw. I know he isn't as dominant as he once was, but look at his numbers. He's literally never been anything but good

How would you rank Berrios, Ryu and Urquidy?  12 team 5x5 with QS/ERA/WHIP/SV/K
AvatarBrendan Tuma
1:08
Ryu, Berrios, then Urquidy as a distant third. Fun fact about Ryu - he has a 2.30 ERA over the past three seasons. Only Jacob deGrom's is lower

In a categories 5x5 2 keeper league. When is the round to take Franco?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
1:09
Since you only keep two players I'd treat it more as a redraft, as Wander would have to be unreal to be a keeper. Monitor him around pick 200. The more bench spots you have the easier it is to justify stashing him

My league is using OBP instead of AVG. Who are some players you would target in the mid-late rounds who get a bump with OBP scoring? (12 team ROTO, 5x5)
AvatarBrendan Tuma

Aaron Judge is the biggest name that comes to mind. Alex Bregman as well. Cavan Biggio, Yoan Moncada, Kris Bryant.

Oh and Joey Votto late

Can I trust scherzer as my ace? 12 team 7x7. I have the 2 pick so (23 overall). If not who do you like at the 2-3 turn? Planning on Soto at 2 overall. Thanks
AvatarBrendan Tuma

My strategy when picking early this year is to take one of Acuna/Soto/Tatis/Betts/Trout and then double tap SPs coming back. I linked to my strategy article at the top of the chat if you'd like to give a read. I'd be okay with Scherzer as one of those two SPs. Nola, Giolito I have ahead of him but they might be gone. Walker Buehler, Luis Castillo should be considered as well

I've got mixed emotions on Yu Darvish and Lucas Giolito. Are they worth drafting at their current ADP, or better off to wait for a guy like Luis Castillo?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
1:14
The more research I do the more I'm getting into Giolito. High-end innings are tough to come by this year and I expect him to have one of the bigger workloads. I also love Castillo, though. I linked to my strategy article above but I want to be aggressive on SPs this season.

Should I be nervous about Cole I’m Yankee stadium after being hit a litter harder last year? Also, should I be concerned either drafting Mookie over Trout?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
1:15
You should have zero concern with Betts or Trout. And I have Cole 3rd among SPs. Yes he got hit a little harder than usual but he still misses bat at an elite rate and finished the regular season on a tear. No reason to fade him

I have the #1 pick in a 12 team H2H keeper league with OBP and QS instead of AVG and W, where we can keep 5. We use similar positions as Roto leagues but only use 4 OF slots. I am keeping Tucker, Castellanos, and V Robles for dirt cheap costs. I am also keeping Ryu for cheap. The best players that are going to be available are Trout, Betts, Cole, and DeGrom. How should I play it?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
1:17
Here's how I'm going to answer this- look at your league mate's roster and determine how many top-15 SPs are going to be available. If a lot of them are going to be protected then take Cole or deGrom. I technically have Betts and Trout ahead of them in my ranks, but I wouldn't want to be without at least one ace this year

Yes he's sneaky. Also Daulton Varsho

Going into 5th round. I have Cole, Bellinger, Machado, and Robert. Eloy and Tim Anderson are both available. Should I target one of them or focus on SP2 (Strasburg, Barnes, Carrasco)
AvatarBrendan Tuma
1:19
Personally I'm targeting an SP there. All 3 of those guys are justified. I'm pro-Strasburg (all spring reports have been positive) but I understand why he scares folks

Who's got the best fantasy value on the Cubs based on ADP? BRYANT? BAEZ? RIZZO? HOERNER? DAVIES? CONTRERAS?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
1:20
I'm going KB. Rizzo is the definition of boring-but-good. Baez and KB should both bounce back, maybe not as superstars, but enough to out-perform their current ADPs

What are your favorite options for Holds or pitchers who will put up a good combo of both saves and holds?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
1:21
Nick Anderson and Drew Pomeranz get dinged because they might not be the locked-in closer, but you can easily combine them with Pete Fairbanks and Mark Melancon, respectively. Additionally, I like drafting Devin Williams everywhere. Other holds targets include Giovanny Gallegos, Josh Staumont, Jordan Romano, Tanner Rainey, Mike Mayers. Reach out on Twitter closer to the season and I'll have a more defined list for you
