Which pitcher do you think will have a similar rise to the one Giolito had in 2019? and what kind of player would be needed to trade for them?
Dan Harris
1:37
Gallen can certainly develop into a top-10 fantasy starter if everything breaks right. As for what kind of player you'd need to trade, that entirely depends on his owner. I'd be willing to deal a Gallo or a Correa for him - someone in that range. But you could easily try for someone lower like a Marcell Ozuna or Andrew Benintendi. You never know how a fantasy player values his own.

You mentioned on the podcast that you didn't love Greinke. But he's like the most consistent player in the game. And with the magical Astros!
Dan Harris
1:38
Yeah, but his strikeout rate dipped when he went to the Astros, actually, so where's that magic pixie dust now??? Some of it is just that his innings-eating ability is wasted now because of a shortened season. But it's just a little hard to swallow using a guy as one of my "aces" who might strike out fewer than eight batters per nine. Not in today's game. I like Greinke, I'll draft him as an SP2. But just later than most.

Is Tyler Mahle a factor this year? Thoughts?
Dan Harris
1:40
Probably for a few week stretch. I know everyone was excited about his development this spring, but he's not slated to start in the rotation with Desclafani and Miley. So he'll need an injury, and there will probably be one at some point and Mahle will likely pitch fine for a few weeks. But not a target.

Are you FantasyPros analysts friends in real life? There's gotta be some tension with Bobby and Tags, right?
Dan Harris
1:41
Haha, we are, actually. No, Bobby and Tags are extremely friendly outside of the podcasts, We all take different approaches to our fantasy analysis, and obviously Bobby and I focus on baseball along with football. But we all genuinely like each other, including Bobby and Tags.

Does the expanded roster mean more platoons this year? specialization?, pinch runners?
Dan Harris
1:42
Yup. Think September baseball light. And especially with potential double headers and such. There is going to be a lot of sitting out games, a lot of being pulled early. But it's a good thing if you're willing to devote yourself to fantasy - bigger variation means a better chance for you to demonstrate your skill

Did Bobby even know the movies on the draft board? We know he is a martian by now!
Dan Harris
1:44
Ha. One of the great mysteries is if Bobby's whole personality is a bit or whether he really is that far removed from pop culture. My guess is it's a mix. But he figures out a way to draft quality teams.

How does the idea of a shortened season affect your draft strategy when it comes to picking pitchers and hitters, being that the works loads of both will change. Does that devalue pitching more? Do hitters get better in a shorter season? Thanks! And thank you for everything; I’ve enjoyed your content for a few seasons now and will continue doing so. (Also, you gonna do a betting pros baseball pod?)
Dan Harris
1:46
Thanks for the kind words, Bryan. A BP baseball pod was certainly something we were planning to do before everything went crazy. But I can tell you that we are continuing to plan for an expansion on the bettingpros side, so don't you worry. As for the shortened season, it's less about hitters/pitchers generally, and more about specifics. It devalues pitchers who have value because of their ability to eat innings. It might devalue hitters who are often slow starters because there's less time for them to get to their hotter streaks (though cold weather likely plays a part). But overall hitter vs. pitcher strategy, the delay has not impacted how I'm thinking about the season

What are the odds that Michael kopech ends up in the rotation this season, and if so, what kind of production can we reasonably expect? Additionally, where do you value him in a dynasty league?
Dan Harris
1:48
It's a bit tougher to gauge now with the delayed season, honestly. I'd still expect him to at some point, but I honestly wouldn't be counting on much of a contribution this year. I'd expect a low-4.00 ERA with around 10 K/9 right now. As for a dynasty league, just outside the top 100 for me.
Brett
1:48
Follow up, kopech was undrafted in my most recent draft. Would you drop Daniel Murphy, bench player, or Will Harris, my main source of holds, to scoop up kopech. Thanks 😀
Dan Harris
1:49
If it's a redraft, no, not if you have a holds category. In a dynasty, sure, drop either.

What are your thoughts on Lucas Giolito?  Seems like he took a big step forward last year.  Are you buying?
Dan Harris
1:51
Buying with an asterisk. I have him as my 13th-ranked SP, so I'm obviously expecting a good season. But I do think his walk rate regresses just a bit given his career, so I think his ERA and WHIP both trend up slightly from last year. So, that's pretty much a full buy, but want to make that clear that I'd expect slightly worse production than last year.

Access this trade please. It's a 12 team keeper league. 8x8 roto Bellinger/Vilar/Stripling for Alonso/Gleyber/Maeda. THANKS
Dan Harris
1:52
Pretty fair, honestly. Slightly prefer the latter side but it's even

hello dan!! In a categories league where is h2h the categories for hitters are H, R, HR, XBH, RBI, BB, K, SB, GIDP and Avg and for Pitchers are ip, er, k, qs, cg, w, L, sv, baa and whip 10 inn minimum. Would you rather take the best hitters and closers and forget about SP? Meaning punting ip, k, qs, cg (usually tying this category) and w?
Dan Harris
1:54
Why would you ever punt five categories even in a 10x10 league? You can't limit your upside like that in my opinion. Don't punt more than a category or two in a league like that. Just draft the best team! (Told you I'm conservative)
Evan
1:54
H2H Categories- 12 Team.  I took Stanton in the 6th and Verlander in the 4th.  Do you think I took too big a risk on these guys?
Dan Harris
1:54
Nope, both steals in my opinion. Have Verlander as a second rounder, Stanton as a fourth. Take advantage of the leftover injury concerns.
Greg
1:54
I have Ross Stripling in my dynasty league. Do you see the Dodgers using him as a 6th pitcher this year and do you think he'll ever be traded and used as a starter elsewhere?
Dan Harris
1:56
Well, they tried to trade him already this year, so yes, at some point, I do expect that. I expect he'll get a start here or there but remember, there's no need for the Dodgers to play it fast and loose like they usually do, since pitchers probably won't need to throw more than 100-120 innings. I think he'll start once in awhile, but don't bank on too much!

Hey I have 2 top 12 picks at 11 and 12. Who do you like in that range? Nolan, Rendon, J Ramirez, JD? Looking for a solid job risky pick.  Weird settings lg with OBP, SO, Hits, BB as categories.
Dan Harris
1:57
Obviously depends on who is available but I love me some Jose Ramirez this year. J.D. Martinez also a fine option. Freddie Freeman a great one there, too.
Elan

Have 2 picks at the start of round 2. And 3 picks around the 3/4 round turn. Who do you like in those spots that might not be ranked around then?
Dan Harris
2:00
As I just mentioned, I love Jose Ramirez if you get him at the start of round 2. I'm also jumping on Walker Buehler who seems to be falling to that range, as well as Freeman or J.D. Martinez.  As fo the 3/4 turn, that's where I have Stanton ranked and he's often ranked much lower. Blake Snell is another guy I find myself grabbing there, and Adalberto Mondesi (who I have ranked closer to the second round) is always my pick where I can get him. All those guys go later in the fourth round or beyond.

Which fantasy analyst impresses you the most and why?
Dan Harris
2:03
I already mentioned Mike Podhorzer. I'll throw a few other names out there for you, though. Justin Mason hustles as much as anyone and has done a ton of great things for the fantasy baseball industry. I think Sean Koerner is an incredible analyst and does projections for pretty much every major sport, and as someone who does his own projections, I can't imagine how he pulls that off. But there are a million great names.
James

Would you keep Aaron Judge in the 3rd round of a 13 team keeper.  6x6 Roto with OPS?
Dan Harris
2:04
Really depends on how long you can keep him. If it's for multiple years, I'm fine with it. But I'm sort of banking on the potential of getting nothing from him this year, so if you only get one or more years from him, I might cut bait depending on my other options.
Bob
2:04
How many games will Tyler Mahile start or is he mainly a RP? can you expand on your thoughts?
Dan Harris
2:05
Only a handful and it's really just because there's no room. You know Gray, Castillo, and Bauer are in the rotation. Desclafani is underrated and has a spot, and Wade Miley was quietly very good last year other than some bizarre blowups at the end where he was probably tipping his pitches, and they brought him there to be a starter. Absent an injury or extreme ineffectiveness for one of those latter two, hard to envision Mahle starting more than a handful of games, such as with a truncated schedule.

Rendon vs Devers? Cat/OBP league. And why?
Dan Harris
2:07
It's six of one, half a dozen of the other, but it's Rendon for me. With OBP, I think it's a safe bet that Rendon will be the better option there, and there's just little downside. It's not a huge difference so I'm not going to argue with you if you loved Devers. But given that Rendon has had higher than a .400 OBP for two of the last three seasons, he gets the nod for me.
