I've gone back and forth on the correct way to approach drafts with the delay and the short answer is, I've concluded that I'm not changing too much. Yes, innings-eaters down, pitchers with innings limits and players who were injured go up. But really, I'm employing largely the same strategy, which is to focus on getting three of my top 30-ish starters in a draft, focusing on average and steals early, power later. Don't think I'll be deviating from that once drafts begin again.

I am going to trade Nick Castalanos and Kevin Newman for Giancarlo Stanton. What are your thoughts on that trade?
Dan Harris
12:44
Depends on who fills in for newman and potentially the size of the league, but I'm a bit indifferent on it. Stanton is the best player in the deal in my opinion, so I'm certainly fine with it. But he's not a crazy upgrade over Castellanos at this point. So, I'd be fine to pull the trigger. But it's not a steal or anything.

Dan, please suggest a good article on H2H vs. Roto draft strategies. I'm referring to the main 2 league options in Yahoo Pro leagues (ie, not Points). I played 3 years of H2H but I'm new at Roto style. Thanks!
Dan Harris

Ok, so you're talking about H2H categories v. roto then, yes? Honestly, it's not a huge difference IMO and I rarely employ significantly different strategies. Here's an article I wrote a few years ago on some of the subtle differences in strategy. Focuses more on what changes when you go from roto to categories, but it should help define the differences a bit: https://www.fantasypros.com/2017/02/rotisserie-vs-h2h-categories-leagu...

Who is the one catcher you are significantly higher than consensus on and why?
Dan Harris
12:50
I'm talking about this on this week's Leading Off, actually (on the FantasyPros Baseball Podcast feed). I'm much higher than consensus on Danny Jansen it turns out, and have him as an option in one-catcher leagues. Last year, Jansen was THE sleeper pick at catcher, and although he was really terrible in the first two months of the season, he performed just fine over the last four. He was having a great spring, he is batting in a strong lineup, and has more upside than most of the catchers in his range. So, that's my guy.

What are your thoughts on top prospect SP’s like Gore and Pearson heading into this short season?  Is good or bad for their playing time?
Dan Harris
12:52
The short answer is I really don't know. Nobody does. Personally, I'm not moving on Gore TOO much because I think the Padres have a decent enough rotation to warrant not starting him. But I think Pearson has a real chance to be an impact starter. The Blue Jays' rotation is very weak and with the shortened season and with their offense, they could easily get off to a hot start and be in contention for a playoff spot. That would mean putting their best foot forward, and that's certainly Pearson. So, think the delay benefits him.

Would you drop Keller or Bundy for Wil Myers? Roto league and I am deep at sp. thank you.
Dan Harris
12:53
I really don't want to drop Keller or Bundy. Both have too much upside for me. But, depending on league size, I wouldn't crush you for it. I'm drafting them all at nearly the exact same spot anyway.

24th and 25th Round you need a SP and a OF. Who are you considering? Thanks.
Dan Harris
12:56
So we are closing in on pick 300 there. Based on our consensus ADP, for OF, the much talked about Myers, Brett Gardner, A.J. Pollock (with the universal DH) and Gregory Polanco stand out. For SP, it's slim pickings that late, but Garrett Richards and Nate Pearson are my guys

Do you think traditional closers will be used any differently in this short season?  Will other RP’s see more save chances resulting from the consolidated schedule?
Dan Harris
12:57
I did when we thought there was going to be this crazy rush to fit in 100 games into a consolidated schedule, but now it sounds like just a half-season with a regional schedule. So, I think for the most part, closers will be used similarly, with a little bit of a change to not "manage for the save" these days. I.e., if you have a four-run lead and there are two outs in the ninth with two runners on, not sure you'll see a closer there like you ordinarily would.

Whay are your thoughts on Mazara? He had so much potential. Change in scenery help him?
Dan Harris

I see all the potential in the world for Mazara and just CANNOT push him up my rankings. He's still so young and showed increased power last year but every time I think about moving him up, there's always someone else who I realize I'd take over him. I think he's a perfect late-round flier, and if I had to list all the players who I could see looking back on and thinking "ugh, what a miss by me," he's be near the top.

Thanks for stopping by! I really enjoy these and look forward to when there's real baseball to discuss. And don't forget to swing by our football chats on Thursday. I'll be popping in those throughout the year, too. And never forget to remind Bobby and Tags that I consistently trounce them in the accuracy competition!
