Well, that obviously depends on who is there. I still like trying to lock up a pitcher or two early, so if Verlander drops, I'd go with him (or Strasburg/Bieber/Clevinger). As for hitters, perhaps a Rendon, Harper, Tatis. ADP is ALL over the place now with the delay so hard to say exactly who would be there.

How does COVID change the way you approach your bench in fantasy baseball leagues, if at all?
Dan Harris
1:43
Excellent question. I have always put value on multi-position eligibility - I've put even more on that now. It's just a reality. There are going to be positive tests and players who have to go on the injured list because o COVID-19 during the season. Having your bench filled with players who can fill in everywhere should make a huge difference.

Which pitchers are you targeting late in drafts?
Dan Harris
1:46
I must have all of the Dylan Bundy shares. I MUST HAVE THEM ALL! I mentioned Caleb Smith earlier as a guy I like late. Assuming he has avoided serious injury, I think Masahiro Tanaka has been undervalued considering the likely change in baseballs, too.

Are you of the belief that it makes the most sense to target mostly hitters early and then fill out your roster with pitchers in the later rounds?
Dan Harris
1:48
I am not. I admit I've moved pitchers down my board a bit generally, so in that sense, I understand going a bit more hitter heavy than before. But I still want to make sure my staff is strong, even in this condensed season. Again, I'm reacting to the delay, but not a crazy amount. So, I'm generally looking for a strong starting staff still.

Dylan Bundy or MacKenzie Gore?
Dan Harris
1:48
Bundy for me in a redraft league.

I am keeping Bieber (8th) Alonso (14th). Would the shortened season cause you to choose  Hader (9th) over Bieber?
Dan Harris
1:51
Nope. Again, I'm not overhauling my entire roster outlook at this point. Bieber is still FAR more valuable than Hader IMO, so I'm not hesitating much in keeping the Biebs.

With dozens of players expected to opt out and the rest at risk of missing time due to Covid-19, how do you prioritize filling out your bench in 2020? Same as usual, or are you targeting certain player types more often?
Dan Harris
1:53
Touched on this a bit earlier, but the focus for me should be primarily on players with multi-position eligibility. I think it's neglected somewhat anyway but particularly this year, it needs to be an absolute focus in drafts. Also, every league should allow you to make daily changes to your roster. That's one of the few things we can do to make our leagues adapt to the current situation. I know that wasn't part of your question but just a PSA!
pitcher wins are bad
1:54
abolish pitcher wins as a category in 2020. no pitcher will have more than 5
Dan Harris
1:56
Why did your parents give you that name? Seriously. So, I have no problems wanting to get rid of the wins category now or in a typical year. They're fluky, and this year, we have absolutely no idea how pitchers will be deployed. A few of my leagues have switched to quality starts for this season. But innings pitched might be the best replacement.

How should we treat Rockies players this year? I read somewhere that they'll face a bunch of pitching-elite teams, so should I downgrade guys like Story and Arenado?
Dan Harris
1:58
Yeah, they face a lot of good pitching staffs at home. I gave hitters a MINIMAL downgrade, personally because again, I just don't overthink things like this. It's Colorado, it is what it is. I'd say the average Rockies hitter dropped two to three spots OVERALL in my rankings, so it's basically negligible.

Which types of players benefit most from a short season?
Dan Harris
1:59
Obviously those with injury concerns coming in and certainly pitchers with innings limits. Other than that, NL hitters who couldn't find a spot but now get the DH.

What would you suggest for those of us in keeper leagues? Ride out the year and let whatever happens happen, or try and make trades with an eye toward winning this season?
Dan Harris
2:00
Ride it out, personally. A 60-game season should give us enough data to be meaningful but it's obviously still more of a crapshoot. I wouldn't want to do any long-term damage to try to win now.
Ok folks, my hour is up. Thanks for stopping by! I'll catch you again soon!
