Scoresheet question.  Keeper league, 10 teams.  NL Pedro Martinez.  I have Shortstops Tovar, Edwards, Abrams, McLain  (who will no doubt qualify 2b).  13 keepers, so I can't crowd them all into my 13 keepers.  Also have Profar, Lodolo, crossover Robles, catcher I Herrera as possible final keeper.  If I cut Robles, he's gone from the league.  First catcher is G Moreno, so I don't really need to protect Herrera.  Smart to go with the youngster Abrams?  Go with Profar for the OBP?  Robles as he's entering his prime and my other OF keepers are Doyle and Yelich?  Lodolo for fifth starter, with my first four being C Sanchez, Fried (crossover) , Schwellenbach, and M King?  Any sage advice, Brent?  Thanks!
Brent Hershey

A lot going on here; I'll try to quickly address:
  • SP: would def keep Lodolo as your #5
  • OF: would probably lean Profar over Robles, esp with Doyle there in CF for you
  • C: Yes, can cut (or trade?) Herrera
  • SS: Edwards would be my first cut there
Hope this helps!

Who's my last keeper in 1-C, OBP keep-forever dynasty: Nolan Arenado, Shea Langeliers, Logan O'Hoppe?
Brent Hershey
12:05
Probably Langeliers — more for the HR boost he'll give; just live with the low OBP. O'Hoppe is close 2nd if you're after a more well-rounded profile. Arenado not keeper-worthy.

16 tm dynasty 6x6 ops holds weekly h2h: we have to cut 6 non-RP players each year and I have some very tough cut decisions. Order you’d prioritize keeping - bench OF Marsh, SP Severino, Cano for holds? Thank you for the chats
Brent Hershey
12:07
Severino, Marsh, Cano. Would think holds-only guys (Cano) would not be good keepers in this format? Also likeliest to find more in the draft/on the wire.

Keep $12 Robles or $14 Wallner in db AL OBP?
Brent Hershey
12:08
Might be team-dependent. If your keeper list needs SB more, then Robles; if needs power more, then Wallner.

Good morning Brent. 15 team, Mixed. When defensive shifting was banned I recall a HQ analysis of strict pull hitters who would benefit the most from the change and Max Kepler was near the top of that list. It doesn't seem that his stats improved considerably since the rule change; however, as he will now be playing home games in Philadelphia I'm wondering if any further changes (positive or negative) would be made in his projections. Thank you.
Brent Hershey
12:08
Yes, we make park adjustments for every player when they change teams. Going from MIN to PHI, yes, he got a small bump, but of course there are other factors (his own player profile, etc). But at this point, there are not further changes made to the skills portion of his projection.

How do you see ABs for the third OF in DET, CWS, and CLE shaking out?  Roster Resource has them all pretty distributed.  Do you see any bat emerging for more than 400/450 ABs in those roles?

Also, why MIN?  Why Ty France?  Isn't he just an older, not-as-good J. Miranda?
Brent Hershey
12:15
DET - Carpenter vRHP; mix of Wenceel and Vierling vLHP
CWS - Likely Tauchman/Slater platoon? Maybe some M Vargas mixed in
CLE - mix of Brennan and Noel; though feel like they'd give Noel a fulltime shot if he mashed in spring
MIN - b/c they needed a cheap backup; and teams love 'established' vets

Brent, thank you. 2 questions. 1. is Eloy going to be the old Eloy after dropping 25 lbs,. in TB( best shape of my life)? 2. your GM hat. what is your trade red sox / padres for Cease?
Brent Hershey
12:17
  1. The 'old' Eloy is still injured a ton, right? I mean, maybe worth a late late dart, but keep expectations low.
  2. Casas, Wilyer and a midrange prospect?

15 team mixed 4x4 keeper, (15 max) auction. 20% inflation. Have Hunter Brown, Kikuchi, Schellenbach, McClanahan, all $5, Strider $15, Do I utilize option to keep Cole at $28 and call it a day for SP? Have Hendrix$5, Duran for $10 as closers. I know I need more Closers but don’t want to speculate high $$ on one guy with so much turnover. Thoughts?
Brent Hershey
12:19
Would not roster Cole in your situation at $28. Don't need to take that chance in this case with all those other starters as cash crops. Keep your $ for the auction.

Hi Brent! Can you share your thoughts on T Saggase & Durban? I’m looking to get low price- high reward players
Brent Hershey
12:21
Don't think of either as high-reward, necessarily, even in NL-onlys. I like Saggase a bit better, but small track record and not exactly sure where STL finds a spot for him this year. Durbin has no MLB track record yet, and smallish frame just means he'll need to prove it every step of the way. Not opposed to rostering either at a low price; just careful of expectations.

Hi Brent, very happy to be back chatting with you! I need to keep 5 players in my H2H Points League. I'm set on keeping Lindor and Jazz, but undecided on the other three. All things being equal, how would you rank:

P: Bailey Ober. Joe Ryan, Manaea
H: M. Harris, Yelich

Thanks, as always!
Brent Hershey
12:23
Happy to have you back!

Harris, Ober <gap> Manaea, Ryan, Yelich (his back scares me, even w/ surgery to fix it).

10Tm AL-auction keeper league,. When choosing carry-over player for your freeze roster (8-15), do you have a minimum profit level you want to see from $1+ cheaper keepers? when you can use them ?.
Brent Hershey
12:26
No, I don't. But if you mean you have up to 15 keepers, then I'm also hopefully filling some slots late with $1 guys, even if they only project to bring back a buck or 2. Also, knowing your league context and how they value specific player types is hugely important as you set your own keepers. Good luck!

12:27
What are your thoughts on Bobby Miller this season? Worth drafting in a 12-team head to head league?
Brent Hershey
12:27
I'd probably pass to start in a 12-teamer, unless it was like your final pick, who you could toss back if he doesn't perform. Maybe if he rocks it this spring, I'd reconsider ... but wow, how he has fallen.

Thanks for your work on the "Minor League Baseball Analyst" publication. I got mine this past Friday, right before our very cold snowy weekend here in the Midwest, so it was perfect timing. It has become an integral part of my journey to grow into a more accomplished fantasy baseball player. Much appreciated!

Great to hear! For anyone who's considering, MLBA is both a great pre-season and in-season resource. Add'l info and ordering details here.

Hi Brent,
In my 10 team, NL-only Scoresheet league, I have been offered Ronald Acuna in exchange for Zack Wheeler and a 45th round pick (the first round after MLB's amateur draft).

This would leave me with a rotation of Snell, R Lopez, C Sanchez, Senga, and Imanaga.  I could really use a corner OF.  But, Acuna's injury makes me nervous.  And there's the tenet:  one can never have too much starting pitching (which seems especially true in Scoresheet).

What do you advise?  As always, I appreciate your insight.

Al

12:30
Haha, no way for me, assuming your bats are good enough to compete this year. Bank that SP; find a COR OF (or even a platoon) in the draft. That's a fun rotation.
Rooney
12:31
Which 1B/3B combo would you prefer in a 12 team 5x5 roto; Soderstorm + Austin Riley or Matt Olson + Parades?
Brent Hershey
12:31
Soderstrom and Riley. Give me the bankable BA of Riley and massive HR potential if Soderstrom hits.
Nicos
12:34
What are your thoughts on Jett Williams? I don't see where he fits in at NY. Might it be a trade & where might he go?
Brent Hershey
12:34
Been drafting him a bunch late in Draft and Hold (50-round) leagues. He's versatile enough (came up as SS, can play CF and 2B) that he could be an option sometime this year. Interested in his speed of course, but swing has a bit of pop in it too, despite his smaller size. Grinder mentality. Will find a place to play, either in NY (most likely) or elsewhere.

12:35
T Soderstrom 25 bombs?  How likely?
Brent Hershey
12:35
50/50? Has to make enough contact; if he does, that is in the realm of possibility.
Nicos
12:37
When do U see Mayo playing MLB, @ what position & % of time anticipated, Brent?
Brent Hershey
12:37
Mid-2025, 1B most likely, and should be a full-timer once he's up. Think he could get by at 3B for a few years, though. Multiple ways he could fit if BAL needs it.

12:39
Thoughts on Kyle Teel it Montgomery coming up early this year? Even if they're good, can they succeed on the white sox?
Brent Hershey
12:39
I'll bet Montgomery gets more MLB AB than Teel this year, but it still might be midseason. "Succeeding" on the Sox will be tough; as they're still going to be (I assume) selling off regular position players (Robert, etc). Don't think either is getting to star territory; more in the "solid regular" bucket.

Brent,
Thank you for taking our questions!!
11 team, Roto 5x5, auction, $260, NL only, Keeper, K-BB, OBP instead of BA.
Looking for diamonds in the basement.
1.      Washington closer question. Is Lopez going to be the main closer or is there another pitcher that you think could take the job?
2.      Washington rotation question. Can you rank Irvin, Parker, Herz and Williams?
3.      Are any or all the pitchers above worth drafting late in an NL only auction?
Really enjoy these chats!!
