Do you own it? It truly is something else. Pre-dates Artists Editions, so was totally stunning when it was released.
Newell

HCs, and omnibuses (omnibi?) in particular, can jump to absurd prices once they go out of print.
Felix Lu
10:13
Yup. Why I don't wait!
Jason K
10:13
So many HCs are hard to get. Had to pay up big time for collected eightball recently
Felix Lu
10:14
Whoa! I didn't know that wasn't readily available already. What did it cost you? Retail was $120, I think,
Nick
10:14
Yup. Guess I'll try to find a good copy on the Internet
Newell
10:14
Sean - request whatever you want! Get art that you will be happy with. Personally, I try to pick characters I like, that I think will fit with with the artists style. Worst case scenario, they say no (which has happened to me exactly once at this point).
Felix Lu
10:14
This!
Adi
10:14
That LS HC is a thing of beauty. Was glad to have picked it up at NYCC and have Justin, Tradd and Felipe sign it (and Tradd sketch on it). Thanks to Felix for putting that together.
Felix Lu
10:14
Glad you took advantage of that opportunity...not going to happen again!
Sean
10:14
Reason: i have two Commiss so far Of spidey from two different artists. Thinking about continuing trend amd get spideys from several diff artists
Felix Lu
10:15
There's no one way to do commissions...you may change later...key is to have fun!
Tom Franck
10:15
Walt gifted it to him.
Felix Lu
10:15
OK, I can see that. Regardless, not going buy one from him!
Pat L
10:15
I think for commissions it is totally up to you - I have tended to tailor to what the artist does/what I know I want from them but have had a lot of jealousy for people posting commissions with a particular theme (like DKR Batman) =)
Felix Lu
10:16
DKR Batman is pretty general, so easy for most guys. Otherwise, I think smartest thing to do is tailor your choice to the artist's strengths. But thanks!
Nick
10:16
Felix, what are your goals as an art rep in the near future now that you've established full issues as a thing? Not trying to get you to reveal any of your trade secrets, just curious as to which direction you might consider taking.
Felix Lu
10:20
Main goal has always been to bring new collectors into the hobby, to show them what original art is all about. It's introducing modern art to vintage collectors who had never really paid attention to modern art before. But more importantly, it's bringing in new, young blood who weren't generally aware of OA as a thing. That's the forever goal!
Pat L
10:20
And yup, thankfully have a nice copy of Wednesday Comics!
Newell
10:20
Sean: I like to get all different characters... but I started a project last year, a sketch book with commissions all of one character by different artists. so you can do it either way, or both!
Jason K
10:20
Felix, sold out everywhere. Paid over double
Felix Lu
10:20
Still worth it;)
Tim D
10:20
I gave Tommy Lee Edwards a list of like 8 super hero things a year ago and he seemed to like none of them. Then gave him like 5 movies and ended up with a really nice Gladiator painting. All and all i've learned a ton about commissions from the podcasts, I miss a lot less than I used to.
Sean
10:21
Speaking of full issues.. what is the range of prices for that? I know that diff artists pull diff rates but im just curious what a general idea of that sort of investment would cost me
Felix Lu
10:22
Price range has been $4000-$40000. It's a wide range! Totally depends on various factors. Feel free to write me directly if you have any questions about any titles specifically.
Adi
10:22
I'm not big on commissions, but for what it's worth - when I do want to commission an artist, I try and engage them on their inspirations, favorite comics/movies/books and give them a few options of what I'd like (or ask them to suggest what they're like to draw). It's important for me to have a true representation of their style, and that's easier when they enjoy drawing something even more
Felix Lu
10:22
Yes, this is good. Giving yourself the best chance at getting strong work from the artist.
10:25
@Jason K...forgot to mention that you can get various EIGHTBALL stories collected individually...like GHOST WORLD...which are all in print and cover price...plus, they're better reads that way, too.
Sean
10:25
I realize i am hijacking the chat for personal gain.. but .. i digress. My theme of spidey hasnt failed me yet. Recent one is from michael walsh and he said he LOVES drawing spidey. I mean who doesnt love drawing spidey.
Felix Lu
10:26
Yes...that's like DKR Batman...a lay up for comic artists...you almost can't go wrong! The flip side, though, is that they're safe choices...and not necessarily the most interesting. But in the end, whatever makes you happy is most important.
Mikail
10:26
What do you guys thing of HoX/Pox?
think
Isn't Spidey like a badge of honor? That you have to get a handle on his costume to do it well
Nick
10:26
Felix, do you limit yourself to one good example for an artist in your collection or can you buy other good examples if the occasion arise? Say, if you came upon another V for Vendetta page, for instance. Or do you consider one good example that catches your eye is enough for your overall collection?
Felix Lu
10:28
It all depends on price...I'd buy up all the V pages I could find if they were "cheap"! If I only have one example from something I love, it's due to budget. Because I'm a greedy mofo when it comes to collecting...gimme, gimme, gimme! LOL
Jason K
10:28
Felix - it IS worth it and I love the feeling of reading like when it came out back in the day. Cool experience
Felix Lu
10:29
Thumbs up! I got them as they were coming out from the same shop Clowes shopped at in Berkeley. That shop kept a VIP list, and whenever they pulled it out, it was cool to see my name alongside his and Adrian Tomine's.
Sean
10:29
question for felix: does being a rep make it harder for you to just buy all the art? I mean thatd be my biggest hurdle if i were in your position.. passing up awesome opportunities for great art since youre the forst to see whats coming
Felix Lu
10:32
Yes. I knew that going into this. It's something Lambert told me right from the start, from all his years of observing the hobby, the market, and other reps. I could no longer be just a collector. I had to service artists and other collectors now, too.

Besides that, I simply wouldn't be able to afford to succumb to temptation all the time. So I follow the Scarface credo: Don't get high on your own supply!
Jason K
10:32
I mean I'm sure everyone's seen the commission results from the Felix crew. Kinda can't go wrong. Elsewhere I can't really guarantee but the results speak for themselves
