Thanks Jason! Whether consciously or subconsciously (although mostly the former), our guys push themselves. They all see what each other is doing and want to be as good (or better!). So that's a great situation for commissioners!

Sean - my sketchbook is for Stingray, an admittedly obscure character. A couple of artists have been like, sure, cool. One told me he wouldn't do it as he was unfamiliar with the character. Ryan Ottley said he didn't know the character, but would do it anyway after looking him up, and may have done my favorite page in the book.
Felix Lu

Ryan always aims to please, he's great! A huge fan himself, which makes a big difference.

I've had a few artists at cons tell me they don't like drawing Spidy, Batman and Wolverine as they get those requests so often.  I try and ask for different Heroes/Villians each time.
Nick

Lol aren't we all?!!

Mikail - HoX/PoX was really good, but maybe a little overhyped, as it was just the prelude to the stuff we're seeing now.

Have to go back to work! Later everyone!
Felix Lu
10:34
Seeya Pat!

I missee the beginning of the chat, but glad to see the podcast is back! I listened to the newest one and got a kick out of the SDCC portion, especially when DWJ talked about his art trade with Wes Craig because i was actually at the table when that went down. Super fun moment between two if my favorites.

You were a witness and can attest! Nice!
You can catch up on the chat if you like, there will be a transcript after!
10:36
This one's turning into a marathon!
Nick

Felix, is there an artist or several whose art you're a sucker for and would buy almost anything they produce? Do you still have grails as a collector?
Felix Lu
10:38
I bought a TON of Nick Pitarra's MANHATTAN PROJECTS are before I became a rep. I own more MP art than anything else. It was available and "cheap" (relatively speaking). Didn't get a single thing after I started repping him. Bought a lot of Bryan Lee O'Malley's art over the years, before I started repping him. I think if I wasn't repping them, I'd get more. But regardless, love their stuff.
Also have bought a lot of Eric Powell's THE GOON art over the years.
10:39
In terms of grails...not really. Or the ones I want are way out of my budget, so I don't think about them much.
James
10:39
Do any of you frame and display your art?  If so how do you pick which piece?  I have done it with some commissions but i've always been hesitant to frame an original page.
Felix Lu
10:40
James, I have framed a TON of art over the years...but since I moved, I haven't hung much of it back up. I basically just chose favorite and/or representative pieces. Some of them have become worth so much, that it scares me to just leave them up on the wall all the time.
Anyone else?

Felix - why's Ryan O style so different in his sketchbook vs. published work?
Felix Lu
10:41
One style is better suited for comics, especially the one's he draws. But who knows if he'll ever incorporate ballpoint ink art into comics? My guess is that it's too time-consuming, but it's a good question!
Mikail
10:41
Bye everyone, thanks for hosting Felix
Felix Lu
10:41
Seeya Mikail!

If its Felix team, you can go wrong, even if the character choice is obscure. Thats why ive been leaning on asking for commissions from my favorite japanese manga. Which reminds me, going to need a giant size berserk from Paul Pope one of these days
Felix Lu
10:42
Thanks Victor! Love the DD you got from Paul. He's the "father" of the DIY costume aesthetic (since borrowed by Rafael Grampa).
Nick
10:42
Very few for fear of getting bored seeing it, but as time goes by, I think it won't happen. So I might start displaying more art.
Adi
10:43
I was talking to DWJ at his table at NYCC one year and Rob Liefeld (with reporters in tow) came up to Daniel and was singing his praises for a full 5 minutes. That was amazing for me to see as a fan
Felix Lu
10:43
That's not unusual at all. So many pros come pay their respects to DWJ. Which IS an unusual sight, since he's just a punk kid, relatively speaking!
Sean
10:44
Honest question from a new collector: why would you NOT frame a piece?
Victor B.
10:44
Yeah, ive framed a handful of pieces that i want to see everytime i walk into the office, but i also have that fear of leaving it out in the open
Jason K
10:44
That would be awesome Victor!
Victor B.
10:44
Cant go wrong*
Felix Lu
10:46
Speaking of Clowes...with any luck, I'll be seeing Jason and other local artists/collectors at his signing for his new Artists Edition tonight in SF...if there's anyone else local here, feel free to come hang out!
Tim D
10:46
Light damage, even with museum glass probably still don't want a valuable piece exposed to a window.
Adi
10:46
I wish I was in the OA scene when Manhattan Projects first came out. One of my top 3 series when I got back into comic books after moving to the U.S.
Sean
10:46
BRB.. gonna go buy *all* the DWJ stuff on FelixArt dot com.
hah!
Jason K
10:47
Be there Felix!
Felix Lu
10:49
I will do my best!
Jason...have you heard your episode yet?
