As an art rep, are you constantly trying to grow your roster of artists, or is there an ideal # that you like to have?
Felix Lu
1:17
Definitely not trying to grow. Keeping it manageable, whatever that number may be. Have zero interest in having the largest roster. Too many, and you end up serving none of the artists well.
Mark Balas
1:17
Thanks! With pencil pieces especially, I'm worried that they're going to fade into oblivion if I frame and hang them
andy
1:17
Mark - coming from a guy who has terrible luck with commissions, I'd say as non-specific as possible
Nick Pitarra
1:17
Artists prefer to draw them with clothes, or in furry suits. Always request one of those.
patrick
1:17
@markbalas, and be prepared to spend as much on the frame as you did on the art!
John C
1:17
I'm not a huge collector but I love prelims as a lot of artists say this is where a lot of the hard work is put into a drawing
Matt Todd
1:17
Hi guys!! Great to be here. I have really enjoyed Eddy Barrows’ prelims the pencils are really tight and they are pretty affordable.
Benno
1:18
I wasn't sure if this was only ask Felix, but I can tell you John E, that if you like art by anyone, why not own a prelim? Its a super cool part of the whole process and if I like anyone enough to own their art, I am glad to also get preliminary art by them as well. In some cases, that is all I can afford anyway!!
Mark Balas
1:18
I have a couple of McNiven prelims for Old Man Logan, which are closer to finished sketches, and I love them.
Brian B
1:18
Hey Felix and everyone else. Is there a plan for another Riley Rossmo list this year?
Felix Lu
1:18
Not sure at this time, but I expect there will be another list. We took a LOT this last time, so he'll be busy for a bit.
Blake
1:18
Are we going to see any new artists  soon added to the Felix family?
Felix Lu
1:19
Possibly. We only added one last year, after adding 10 the year before. It all depends on the fit.
Tim D
1:19
I would think that depends on the collector. No interest in prelims here. Some of these Murphy prelims are selling for around 1k already though.
Jason Wood
1:19
I own a few prelims. Just comes down to whether they speak to me.
patrick
1:19
do you have any other artists you're workin on to add to site by end of year?
Felix Lu
1:19
See answer above!
J.T.
1:19
Are character designs valuable if the artist isn't famous?
Felix Lu
1:20
Probably not. But it depends. Could be like movie storyboards. Know any storyboard artists by name? But it doesn't matter if the movie is popular!
Patrick R
1:20
Hi Felix,
Felix Lu
1:21
Hi Patrick
John C
1:21
Hey Felix, I just joined but didn't see my reply come up earlier.
Felix Lu
1:21
Huh...try again?
Jason Wood
1:21
Felix, who are the top artists living who don’t sel their artwork but you wish they did? Simonson, Otomo and Samnee come to mind.
Felix Lu
1:21
Simonson for sure! Watterson, too.
Tim D
1:22
How safe is art in an Itoya should pieces be stored in Mylar bags on top of this?
Felix Lu
1:22
Itoyas are archival. I also place the art in mylars, though, just because I have OCD.
Murray G
1:22
I don’t mind prelims if they are cheap but I consider them more as a ‘bonus’ than something i would specifically seek out.
John E
1:22
Felix, I like your criteria for choosing pages to collect: you have to like the story and the art. I’m wondering if you have ever come across NOSTALGIC pages where you have fondness for the art but NOT the writing and vice verse but bought it anyway? Do you regret passing on such pieces too?
Felix Lu
1:24
Sure...I've bought a lot of art that I have nostalgia for, but is objectively not great art. But I would also say that what many in the hobby consider to be great art, I wouldn't. Just buy what you respond to...you should know what it is when you see it.
Dylan
1:24
Not a question but just wanted to say: Nick, I love your work on Manhattan Projects. Absolutely brilliant.
Felix Lu
1:24
Kiss ass!
1:25
(I'm a fan, too.)
Patrick R
1:25
Was wondering what is the best shows to attend for published pages? Where do the most dealers display beside SD or Comic Con Art in NJ?
Felix Lu
1:25
For vintage art, SDCC and NYCC. For new art...hard to say. So much is readily available online these days, 24/7, that you don't really need to go to a show to purchase art.
Josh
1:26
Nick, you should also host a chat over on the Patreon page.
Felix Lu
1:26
Here's your chance to plug the Patreon, Nick!
Johnny McCloskey
1:26
Do you guys have any tips on learning how to draw comic related items?
Felix Lu
1:26
And here's another chance!

Hey Nick - I've always thought you should include the prelims along with your commissions - they are great and show the process.  Is this something you've considered?

Felix, I know people on the CGC board were asking you about disabling sold pages on the site. Does the new one address that, or still up in the air? I've not spent enough time there to discover that answer.

THe HP Office Jet 7740 is not bad as an all in one. Prints and scans 11x17 wirelessly up to 1200 dpi.
