I’m excited to attend c2e2 again this year and will be stopping by the Felix crew. How do you decide what art to bring with you to sell at a show?
Felix Lu
9:36
I'll bring a sampling art for the attending artists. Otherwise, by request. So if there's anything anyone wants me to bring, shoot me an email!
Pete Marino
9:36
@Anthony with CIA it may not be worth covering pages that are only worth a couple hundred dollars.  I think they have a $100 deductible.  so in the case of a full loss it's worth it, but for having a $150 page damaged / lost / destroyed in the mail, it's not such a great deal.
Felix Lu
9:37
Right...you're really insuring for potential catastrophic event, not really for the odd $100-200 piece.
Rick Yankosky
9:37
@James: Understood.  I'd try to put the "sitting around" mindset aside.  YOU like it AND think it's breathtaking AND comparatively reasonable priced.  Win.  Win.  Win.  ;)
Murray G from Calgary
9:38
@James. If you like the piece, then buy it.  If you’re worried that it might be a bad ‘investment’, then don’t but it. Jmo
Felix Lu
9:38
More enablers! Let us know what the piece is when you get it, James!
Justin

Especially in today’s world with digital art being more common, What does the market/collectors say about the appeal of production proofs in the absence of actual finished pages?
9:40
With digital art being more and more common, how do most collectors/market feel about production proofs in lieu of actual finished pages?
Felix Lu
9:40
Still very early, the market is still sorting that out.
9:41
To me, it's a collectible. But it's not OA.
Personally, I have zero interest.
9:42
I enjoy the image, and it would look nice on my wall...but I'm not paying a premium.
9:43
To clarify, I'd buy the image as a relatively inexpensive poster or print. I'm not buying as a pricey 1/1 "proof".
9:44
I work with digital artists, and could do the same. But that's where I draw the line. It's not hand-drawn original art. I won't contribute to blurring that line.
Rick Yankosky
9:45
@Felix: I think that was my first episode.  You were the gateway drug.
James
9:45
@Pete: good point, regarding the tape! If you wanted to keep the pages together are there any products/brands/techniques you would recommend instead?
Felix Lu
9:46
Most artists will use standard masking tape, which is not archival. You should go to your local art supply store and consult with them. There are special tapes with rice glue that you can use.
Matt Todd
9:47
Either way I am very nervous as to what will happen to the hobby when that seven figure threshold is crossed. I am not sure what impact it will have but I fear it may not be positive for the lower to mid-tier collectors.
Felix Lu
9:49
Everyone will have $$$ in their eyes at first, but eventually the market will sort itself out. In the meantime, there will be a lot of art sitting around unsold, as sellers try to piggyback their valuations on whatever recent outlier sale just occurred.
Rick Yankosky
9:49
@Felix: What's Paul Pope working on comic-wise @ the moment?  Just covers?  Or is there something new on the horizon?
Felix Lu
9:50
The next chapter of BATTLING BOY! And then something very exciting/cool. Keep watching!
He also just finished an EPIC commission project, which I will be posting soon!
Victor B.
9:51
While storing your art in a portfolio, would you still recommend having the pieces in Mylar or is the portfolio enough protection?
Felix Lu
9:52
I like having the art in mylar, too. It's not necessary, but the extra protection never hurts.
Rick Yankosky
9:52
@James:  Notice Felix said when, not if.  :D
Matt Todd
9:52
I would love if you had a follow up podcast with Scott Dunbier and or Albert, those last conversations were  great ones. I hope you guys can reconnect.
Felix Lu
9:54
Well...we did do a followup with Albert. It was a lot of fun! Unfortunately, Albert took some heat for it, so we had to pull it. Hope we can sit down again sometime, but he's busy guy!
9:55
Same with Scott, but I think that may be easier to make happen again.
Justin Stafford
9:55
I can deduct that many established collectors probably feel the same way about proofs. Aside from the internet, what is the best way to track down pages that don’t seem to have any record of being sold online?
Felix Lu
9:57
Hunting pages that have no footprint takes serious effort and time (unless you just happen to get lucky). Mostly, networking. You have to get the word out. Get to know as many fellow collectors as you can. You also have to reciprocate, it's not a one-way street.
9:58
The risk, of course, is that you'll turn someone else onto what you are hunting. So you have to be prepared to pay the most. Can't really have your cake and eat it, too (i.e. dig around for mystery art and hope to get it on the cheap, too).
Justin Stafford
9:59
What is the best way to go about replacing missing stats?
Felix Lu
10:00
There are restoration guys who will can do this for you, for a fee. Actually, there are guys who ONLY do this. Shoot me an email and I will pass on contact info.
Rick Yankosky
10:00
@Felix: Paul doing his own stuff is always welcome.  The man can seriously world-build.
Justin Stafford
10:02
Thank you Felix:) I’ll email ya! Love the podcasts, still working my way through them.
Felix Lu
10:05
@Rick...Yes! That's what was best about BATMAN: YEAR 100. It wasn't Paul visiting Gotham...it was Batman inserted into Paul's sandbox.
10:06
@Justin: Thanks! Next one is going to be a little...different. Hope everyone gives it a chance.
Murray G from Calgary
10:07
Felix, How about a discussion on the podcast about tips for spotting fakes?
Felix Lu
10:08
There will be some of that...but in general, do your homework.

Does anyone here collect double page spreads, and if so, how do you store/ display them. I’ve stayed away from buying any mostly due to logistics of properly displaying in a portfolio.

@Felix Lu sorry for the patchwork post and typos.  Trying to edit in the chat window and multi-task obviously didn't work out well for me =)
