(Most collectors just need to learn that particular lesson once.)

Hi Felix - Looks like everyone had a great time at C2E2... since we're talking about new blood. When you're at cons... do you see a lot of the same people or are you seeing new people get commissions/sketches/etc.?
Felix Lu
12:00
Oh yeah, lots of new people! Not just at conventions, either. Lots of new names placing orders through the site all the time. It's great and makes me hopeful for the future of the OA hobby.

Last year I commissioned a piece that is now being used as a variant cover for Deadly Class, how does that affect the value?
Felix Lu
12:00
Cha-ching! LOL!
You basically won the commission lottery.
Congrats!
12:02
I get a LOT of commissions. Commission collectors understand that these are personal pieces, just for them. It's not about value. But of course, if a private commission becomes a published cover, then it's no longer JUST a commission. There are those who prefer to keep their commissions private, but I imagine most collectors would be tickled if their piece became a cover.

12:03
Awesome - thanks Felix! I missed out on Daniel's art this time but the chase was exciting :)
Felix Lu
12:05
Thanks for trying, Nima. And THANKS for having a good attitude and understanding that only one person will be able to get any one piece. You just gotta place your order and hope for the best. You won't win every time. You won't even win most of the time. But the story I like to tell is something that happened earlier this year. There's a collector who tried for drop after drop, only to lose out each time (often by mere seconds!). He could have thrown in the towel (I wouldn't blame him), but he didn't give up. So on the next drop, he tried...and scored the very first appearance of Cosmic Ghost Rider. Which, who knows, might be the most significant piece I ever sell. Point believe, if he had given up, he would have never gotten the piece. I'm thrilled for him that he got it.

I'm with @Oscar, my experience with @Felix has been better than with other dealers thus far, and I am pretty new to the hobby
Felix Lu
12:07
Thanks Jared! It's pretty simple. I got into this as a collector. I know how I like to be treated. These transactions should be as painless as possible. So that's what I try to do!
Reba J
12:07
Felix and Oscar, yeah lots of others starting to imitate the Felix public communication style and timed art sales without taking any notice of the foundation underneath it.
Felix Lu
12:08
Thanks Reba!! Great to have you here, as well. I hope to make it Australia at some point...would love to have you on the podcast!
Reba J
12:08
Felix, really fascinating talk you had with Mark Landis on the podcast. Good job balancing awareness of his personal situation while not being an apologist for the forgery. Are you going to get a Landis original?
Felix Lu
12:09
I actually own one! He sent it to me as a gift! It's a simple little drawing that served as a holiday card. I'll post it soon on social media.
12:10
I'd be pissed as hell if I had gotten taken by one of his forgeries. At the same time...after watching the documentary, and getting to know him a little bit via phone chats, it becomes harder to be angry at the guy.
12:11
Comic art aside, what he's done to museums I have to admit I find almost amusing. At least the stuffy ones. Not that I approve, of course!

Hi to all, greetings from Portugal

Hey Joao, welcome back!

Hey Felix!

Hey Tobin!

Jared, congrats on the commission being a cover! Seen a few commissions become variants for Remender's books. All great ones!
Felix Lu
12:13
Remender is definitely cool that way. He's using a DWJ commission for a cover, too. I think something else from one of our guys, as well. He's got a good eye!

i recently became a premium member on caf,  i was wondering if you post new art on a certain day/time to net as many views as possible in the new art section?
Felix Lu
12:17
I don't. But I would imagine you'll get more hits if post during the day, than say, in the middle of the night.
12:18
You'll get more activity in your gallery if you engage more, too. Reach out to other collectors. Leaving comments is a quick/easy way to do that.
Jared
12:18
If anyone is interested in seeing the commissioned piece that will be a cover sometime soon https://www.instagram.com/p/Bdglf6-h8PG/?taken-by=jandsartcollections

Not a Felix guy, but not bad. Passable.
(Just kidding, it's great. Scalera is damn good, not surprised it caught Remender's eye. Congrats again!)

Felix what do you recommend for scanning one’s artwork.
Felix Lu
12:20
All-in-one scanners are so cheap these days. You can get a solid one for under $200. I used the Epson WorkForce. Whatever the latest model is, the previous one will be dirt cheap, and just as good.
Matt Dicke
12:21
are you thinking of getting other artists on board to make and sell warm up sketches? I like the more affordable option as it allows fans to enter the hobby and hopefully catch the collecting bug.
Felix Lu
12:24
Well, yes, that's the whole idea behind this. I started with James Jean and Paul Pope for that very reason...they have massive fan bases, but their finished work can be cost-prohibitive for most. And it's worked out great! Most sellers wouldn't have bothered with them because it's not worth their time. But I love getting a lot of art out to folks. So yes, you'll be seeing more from other artists, too.
12:26
When people get these pieces in their hands, they'll be very happy. Many of these pieces are small, but they still display nicely. Put it in a frame, hang it up, and you'll REALLY appreciate it. One of the early pieces I got was a 7"X7" Dave Stevens piece. I was skeptical at first, but my more experienced friend said it'd look great on my wall. He was right.

Looking forward to watching the Art & Craft doc this weekend along with the recent podcast.  The trailer was pretty fascinating.  So interested to hear about how forgeries happened in our little world here.  Spoil it for me---was he forging commission-type work or OA?
Felix Lu
12:28
Straight-up published OA!! Covers, mostly. But also illustration art. Impressively, also large-scale strip art. For example, Hal Foster PRINCE VALIANT Sunday  strips. If you haven't seen one of those in person, they are MASSIVE. Scale aside, Foster was also a master technical artist. So from every angle, tough to copy.

12:28
Yes Felix, if you're not at Heroes, I'll drink at least 2 for you!

12:28
Ha ha, thanks Felix. If I cross the wide seas, I'll join a podcast. Would love to come to one of those big shows over there.

Just a reminder...if you want to address anyone besides me, please start off with "@name", so we can keep this all straight. Thanks!

Thanks as always Felix. These are so beneficial for not making the hobby so insular. Have a great weekend.
