Ooo :O Interesting, thanks!
Brian
11:57
Are you allowed to say how many Otomo pieces there are? :O
Felix Lu
11:58
Somewhere between 1 and 1000.
:P
Joren
12:03
@brian, I tried that already But he wants to keep the surprise (sigh) :p
Brian
12:04
Bye, Felicia lol
Felix Lu
12:04
Bye "Brian" lol
Joren
12:04
Felix, as you often say you're a collector yourself, are there any pieces you ever bought from the artists you rep?
Felix Lu
12:05
Yes, of course. Very often, commissions. I'm into their work, or I wouldn't be repping them!
12:06
I can't have it all, though, so I try to be as selective as I can. Anything I get, doesn't make the site.
Brian
12:09
Can you bother Skottie to start taking commissions again
Felix Lu
12:09
That...might actually happen. Stay tuned!
Joren
12:12
So those never get to be shown at the site either?
Felix Lu
12:13
No, because they were already sold. But in the overall scheme of things, we're not talking about that many pieces.
My commissions will often go up as "samples", though.
Mike Cichy
12:16
Felix do any of your artists work digitally.
Felix Lu
12:16
Yes, most famously, Nick Dragotta.
12:17
I've been able to create a market for him, despite the digital-only art, without having to resort to "AP" or "1/1" prints.
But, he's an exception. I generally won't rep digital artists.
Joren
12:17
Makes sense. I was wondering what pieces of art you own, thanks for the answers!
Felix Lu
12:17
You can see a good chunk of my collection on CAF: http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=9754
Mike Cichy
12:18
But there is only one copy of each page sold.
Felix Lu
12:18
For now.
12:19
In my view (and the view of the vast majority of the hobby), a print-out is not original art. It IS art...just not original art. Not in the way we've come to define "original art".
Times change, and the market/hobby evolves...but that's one line that's going to be difficult to cross for most. I don't want to help blur that line.
Mike Cichy
12:20
Are Nick’s commissions done digitally also
Felix Lu
12:20
No, all of Nick's art on the site is done by hand, on paper.
Layouts are digital (that's just the reality these days), but inks are by hand.
Joren
12:21
Joining in on the Nick Dragotta art: so his interior pages are all digital? I didn't knew
Felix Lu
12:22
Yes, all digital for printing. For the collector market, he'll hand-ink pages by request, as commissions.
12:23
As an art collector himself, though, he is giving serious thought to doing his next project on paper. So he can have something for himself, as well as be able to have art to sell to collectors. Fingers crossed!
Joren
12:26
Just checked your caf, nice collection you got there! Do you're the one with that crazy alien commish by Daniel, that's a real beauty!
Felix Lu
12:28
Thanks! I actually traded a published cover to Daniel for that commission! It's 11X17...he doesn't do many that large. He's trying to stick to 9X12 these days, due to time. But even the 9X12 are looking more amazing than ever.

@Josh - if you haven't bought from the site at one if these sales before, here's my tips from someone who may have given Felix too many $$$ (ha ha). My first tip is to anticipate that collectors are locusts so be prepared to choose really fast. Save time by ignoring anything not in your budget 'cos you can look at those later. If something catches your eye and your heart and matches your budget, send an order without hesitating! I've lost time in the past hesitating between multiple pages...Sounds like you're well prepared testing the site and everything already! Good luck.
Felix Lu
12:28
There you go! Real-life time tested knowledge from a fellow collector!
12:29
I can confirm, too, as someone who has gone through the same thing on another site.

12:29
Any new announcements  for Comicpalooza? More artist joining in the fun?
Felix Lu
12:29
Who have they officially announced so far? We do have a great group attending...it'll be a blast!
James
12:29
Someone mentioned Batman news!... A massive congratulations to Chris Mooneyham for *finally* doing something with DC and Nighting no less! Can't wait to see what other doors open at the DC offices for him.
Felix Lu
12:30
Hey James! Which James are you?

I think it's a good balance though, as you can easily change composition for example

I'm not sure. Not having it listed properly so it doesn't show to people properly.
