And yes...Chris is going to knock people's socks off with NIGHTWING. Perfect style for that book.
Josh Hall
12:31
Thanks, @Reba J!
Joren
12:31
Also: did you like my alien gift card? I know it's nothing compared to all the pro's out there though. Really loved making 'em :D
Felix Lu
12:31
I did, thanks! Very nice of you!
Brian
12:31
Is this your full-time job now? What did you do before?
Felix Lu
12:31
Yes, this has been my full-time job from the start.
12:32
I've done many different things before, but have been self-employed in my own businesses for over 20 years.
12:33
I was functionally retired when I started this...just needed something to do! I probably work more hours than I ever have...but the stress level is way less. WAY less. No more high-blood pressure/hypertension, which I'm grateful for!
Joren
12:33
And yea even Daniels warm up sketches are wonderful to look at, love his style! Got really happy when I got a page from his extremity series
Felix Lu
12:34
Congrats on getting a page from EXTREMITY. That's been a very special series. I believe it will have a long life in trade as Daniel is just getting started on his career!
David M
12:34
Skottie Young, DWJ, Paul Pope, Nick, Ottley
Needless to say I'm excited about seeing your guys. I think 80 of the artist are from your crew
Felix Lu
12:35
That's a good chunk of the crew going...but still a couple more surprises;) I think Houston fans will be quite happy.
12:36
Paul almost never attends any shows, so that'll be a unique experience for local fans.
James
12:36
The James who keeps on slowly picking up more of Chris's pages ;-)
Felix Lu
12:37
I'm still not sure which one you are, but thanks for supporting Chris' work!!
Mike Cichy
12:37
Felix can you tell us what is next up for DWJ
Felix Lu
12:38
According to my last chat with Daniel, his next project should be announced at SDCC. He's working hard on it, and it looks amazing, I can say that much! Also, VERY different from EXTREMITY!
Reba J
12:38
Re the discussion about 'digital' vs 'traditional' original art, well I prefer traditional or I wouldn't be here but I wouldn't personally get a recreation of a piece originally done digitally - it was the digital 'originally' used to make the comic in the end. Doesn't mean I haven't seriously admired those recreations though! If Nick does his next book on paper, he'll thankfully remove this dilemma.
Felix Lu
12:40
I hear you, Reba. It's certainly a change from how things have been done. But, I don't *quite* consider it a recreation, at least not how we commonly use that term in the hobby. A recreation is a copy of an existing physical piece. So there are ultimately two (or more) examples.
12:41
What Nick is doing is hand-inking a piece that was originally created digitally. So there is only ONE physical example.
12:42
Having said that, I do understand if others don't feel the same. All I can tell you is, if Fiona Staples ever did for SAGA what Nick's doing with EAST OF WEST...I'll be first in line.
Joren
12:43
I shall treasure it 'till my dying day, and I'm only in my early twenties:p can't sell such beautiful thing
Felix Lu
12:43
You're only in your early 20's? I envy you!
Joren
12:43
There are a lot of artists that do lay outs/roughs digitally and then ink them traditional, James harden for example if I'm not mistaken
Felix Lu
12:44
Yes, this is the standard method nowadays. We're just lucky that there are artists who are still inking traditionally. May they never stop.
Joren
12:47
Yep! Turning 22 in a couple of weeks! Still studying at college and working during vacations to get the money to pay for those pages :P and meanwhile trying to get better with my own drawing stuff of course
James
12:50
My memory is failing me (I cannot remember where) but I heard you recently speaking about the price of commissions and the fine line you draw as a rep, so as not to overprice but stay within market. With that in mind, what are your thoughts on the recent Jim Lee pricing (for Lake Como)?
Felix Lu
12:51
I don't remember what I said, sorry! I'm getting old, lol!
But, for commissions, I try to get whatever the market will bear. It's only fair to the artist.
12:52
What I DO try to do, though, is offer different tiers, so that there are more affordable options. This is, of course, up to each artist's discretion, and is largely determined by their available time.
12:53
So with that said, I don't begrudge whatever Jim Lee is getting for his commissions. If his list fills up, what can anyone say? That's the market!
Reba J
12:54
@Felix - yep I get there's only one physical EoW interior piece but I can't help but think of them differently. It still wasn't the hand-inked piece that produced the comic. You describing them as commissions is probably the more accurate term though. Ha, I'd probably totally contradict myself and be there for Saga too!
Felix Lu
12:55
Right? We all feel strongly about things...until we face a REAL test! And SAGA would be that test for us! I can also say that if Fiona started selling 1/1 prints, I would NOT be buying.
12:56
So, I'm consistent there, at least!
Newell
12:56
The tiered system works well.
Felix Lu
12:56
Thanks Newell! I try!
Reba J
12:58
@Joren - you have better taste than anything I would have bought in my early 20s! Looks good for your collection going forward!
Josh Hall
12:58
Now I’m curious because I can’t find it, @James. How much is Jim Lee charging?
Chris
12:59
Felix, will any of the artist you rep be attending Motor City Comic Con?
Connecting…

I think it's a good balance though, as you can easily change composition for example

I'm not sure. Not having it listed properly so it doesn't show to people properly.
