That's what bugged me. FREE wasn't enough. Not grateful that they once got something for free, but bitter that it's no longer free. Unbelievable.

Hi. Hope everyone is doing well.
I have a question. Marvel is going to publish a Director's Cut of Silver Surfer: Black. Last time (I think) they did that, it was for Vision by King/Walta that was collected on a HC with tons of extras. @Felix, do you know if we'll we see a similar HC for SS:Black?
Felix Lu
12:12
God, I hope so!
Kevin C
12:12
Looking forward to the commissions I got :)
Dave D
12:12
No, it wasn't me. I don't even know the thread your talking about. I'm frustrated, not angry or resentful.
Felix Lu
12:12
Sorry, wasn't referring to you. I don't remember what you posted, but I've been referring to a couple of specific FB threads last night.
Cristian C

Riley’s been posting sketches recently on IG and stuff past character designs and it’s so good!
Malvin
12:12
I'll lurk again, plus its lunch time soon
Dan T
12:12
@John Espinoza about 18 months and it's out of control.
Eranga D
12:12
@ John Espinoza - I've BARELY been at it a year but I've been reading comics for about 30 years

12:13
If your artists still have at-con sketch options, then it's a lot already and the quality is still very good at that pricing. Sucks I can't afford most of the mail commissions, but can't have them all
Pat L
12:13
@Dan T - always wanted to go to Dragon Con but never made it.  How is it for the OA scene?
Kevin C
12:13
Will Matias be selling his original art soon now that he is on the team?
Felix Lu
12:14
Matias prefers to hang onto his published work as it's very personal to him. But I'm working on it...fingers crossed.

I think having the commission samples out there are also a great resource to know what you are getting for your money too.  It's also great way to get some ideas of what to ask for too
Felix Lu

interesting - where was this posted? "I like the guy who said he would be boycotting Tradd and only supporting artists who did commissions he could afford. Meanwhile, he had gotten a really nice free sketch from Tradd already. Free. He's bitter he can't get more. Really, who's greedy?"
Felix Lu
12:14
In the sketch prices group on Facebook. At least one of the threads has since been deleted, though.

Hey @Felix and all. Don’t have Facebook, but kinda glad I don’t from this conversation

Re—The Sketch Post: Those folks complaining pass over literally hundreds of $50-$300 posts just to rail about being “priced out of the hobby” in regards to high-end artists. When they get pressed, they inevitably pull the “there are plenty of artists who respect me who I can give my money too.”
Felix Lu
12:15
Same old broken record. So tiresome.
Mark Tomlinson
12:15
I have to agree with Jason regarding the quality of the commissions I've seen. But although I've had a few (very few) done over the years, there's been a few clunkers that make me reluctant to get any more....
Felix Lu
12:16
Just to clarify, none of those are from my group, lol! But otherwise, that's the nature of commissions-- they're all a gamble. We try to minimize that aspect by showing everything we've done, so collectors can get a general idea. There are no wild swings in quality, we try to be very consistent.

Andy: I'd imagine Artist's choice goes over the best.

Ive always felt that if you don't want to spend money on an original piece of art you can buy a print, I remember growing up going to a museum and you could buy a print, certainly I would never think that most art in a museum would be the same cost
Felix Lu
12:17
Good point!

Its like yelling at a BMW dealership because you want a 7-series at Scion prices (not that there is anything wrong with owning/driving a Scion.)
Felix Lu
12:17
EXACTLY. I drive a Prius. I don't go to the Tesla dealership demanding they sell me one for the same price.
Pat L
12:17
I'm curious about that too - and the "Artist Choice" ones - risky or no?
Felix Lu
12:18
Totally dependent on your level of risk tolerance!

Hi guys. First time here in the chat. I have seen the thread where there were complaints were made about commission pricing. But almost all artists on Felix’s roster have very affordable PUBLISHED pages.
Felix Lu
12:18
THANK YOU. A lot of those guys just like to complain. They will never be happy. Not unless they get free art from every artist they like. And maybe not even then.

@Jason P You bring up a good point. Every piece I've had or seen from Felix's crew is top notch. I commissioned a batman piece from another artist (has consistent DC work) last year and wasn't satisfied. It wasn't consistent with the quality of his other commissions. Luckily I was able to get original artwork instead. Everything I've seen from Felix's crew so far is consistently high-quality.
Felix Lu
12:19
Thanks Rob! We try!
Matt Todd
12:19
Hey Felix!! I hope this finds you, Yams, Lambert and the entire Felix Comic Art crew safe and sound. Question, with con season pretty much over for could you see the crew offering a short list of 6x9 con sketch style commissions or would you want to keep that solely for shows?
Felix Lu
12:20
We do those at shows only, sorry. But if anything changes, we'll let everyone know via the newsletter. As usual, ad nauseum;)
Mike Cichy
12:20
Hi Felix, how is everyone doing? Great to be in the chat room.

Heya Mike! Great to see you here!@

Andy K - I've been getting commissions of a specific character lately from various artists. Most of them are like, "I don't know who that is, but I can look it up". But I've had at least one, a fairly big name, too, tell me no because he didn't know the character and didn't feel like either of us would be happy with the outcome. I said thanks anyway and moved on to the next artist on my list.
Felix Lu
12:21
I respect that artist for giving you an honest answer, and not just taking your money knowing he wouldn't be able to produce work to his usual standard. Seriously, respect.
