6X9 Con style sketches done at home, I mean. Sorry if that was not clear.

I think the fact that tradd did half in fan specials at a reasonable price was fantastic. He didn't have to do that. Just more work
Felix Lu
12:23
We are sensitive to where rates have gone, and try to provide more affordable options whenever possible. Like offered sketch covers and remarqued comics during the SILVER SURFER: BLACK drop. Tradd has little/no interest in doing sketch covers otherwise (and we've been offerred A LOT), but did a bunch of those so fans who couldn't afford his pages would still be able to get something. It's not always possible, but we always try.

Felix, what’s collecting like at Year 16? Is there not much of a want/check list anymore? More commissions and modern art? Or is there still vintage grail chasing?
Felix Lu
12:24
Year 16 is pretty much the same as Year 1....when it comes to art I want to add to my collection, I know it when I see it. I don't have a want list, per se, outside of general wants. The one difference is that I've definitely calmed down some...I'm not quite as obsessive as I used to be. That's how I feel anyway, people around me might disagree.

Hi Felix.

Hello
Brian Lake
12:24
@JasonD when you discuss the pricing and changes in prices I think it always goes to the buyer and they get to decide what to buy and when and for what price I always feel a commission is something very specific many times and for that unique request there should be a cost for that

Hi Felix, speaking of the Andy Robbins podcast, I’ve listen to them all multiple times. I’ve always wondered what the deal with saying ‘Namaste’ to Andy was about.
Felix Lu
12:25
An inside joke;)

12:25
@felix, any plans to do a live streaming "group" sketch? and i don't mean taking commissions. just having multiple artists sketching on stream from their own locations while you moderate Q&A.
Felix Lu
12:26
I've been asked about this and the answer is...I don't think so. Not until I have more time. Just too busy with life right now.
Rob Lee

Hello from beautiful NJ right outside NYC
Felix Lu
12:26
Hey Rob! And everyone!
Jordan
12:26
Felix, your point in that back and forth about offering the cheaper sketches to accommodate all levels of collectors was spot on. I might not be able to afford the Ferrari but my Civic is the same color and gets me from point A to point B all the same.
Felix Lu
12:27
And you can still appreciate a Ferrari, even if you can't afford one. We don't have to own everything we like. Sheesh.
Francis Chervenak
12:27
In terms of commissions, I agree with Felix. Demand sets the price. They can be expensive and they can take you out of the running for other pieces. But you have to choose your shots

12:27
Hi all-it’s definitely been interesting seeing the commission lists open up. I was too timid given current conditions to jump in on several but finally pulled the trigger on a smaller one. I think the weird piece is that commissions used to be the way to buy art from creators whose published work wasn’t affordable for me, but in some cases that  seems To have flipped.
Felix Lu
12:28
It seems backwards, right? But demand for commissions is bigger than ever...for modern art, there may be more demand for commissions than published art. Go figure, but it's what we're seeing.
Joe F.
12:28
Hello Felix! Would you and your artists consider Stay-At-Home conventions in this time? I'm thinking of something where the guys sketch pieces for fans, the same way you sometimes organize them to do when set up at shows.  Thanks!
Felix Lu
12:28
Planning something for sketches, but not quite like that. But will add it to list of things to think about, thanks!
Francis Chervenak
12:29
Also keep in mind with collecting, its all relative. You may miss out on one commission run or a published art drop, but then a few weeks later something else comes around.

LOLOLOLOL @Jason K

12:29
I agree that people need to look at it from the artists' perspective and recognize that they need to supported/paid for what their doing.  "if you're good at doing something, never do it for free"
Jason D
12:29
Felix- that makes sense, since I collect published and commissions I never really looked at it as two definitive markets. I always look at it as sketches being an extension of published collecting.

FB sucks

Hey Gang!  I think another aspect of these larger “asks” is the time we’re living in.  These prices help the artist maintain a reasonable lifestyle as they navigate the uncertain waters they currently find themselves in.  Good on those who can afford to patronize artists whose work they enjoy.  If the prices were too high, the lists wouldn’t be filling up.  My two cents.
Felix Lu
12:30
Amazing how reasonable people seem to understand that. My faith in humanity is restored a bit (just a bit:P). Thank you!
Ron Lim
12:30
Hey all.... I'll be bopping in & out, as I'm multi-tasking/working.
Felix Lu
12:31
Before this gets out of hand...this is not the Ron Lim who did SILVER SURFER. This is the better-looking version who doesn't draw.
Pat L
12:31
i think that there should be a difference between published art that is already set, with someone getting it for nostalgia for the story/comic/page or they like the layout of the piece itself versus a true commission, in which you are essentially having the artist do something completely original and tailored to what you want.  So I feel that in some cases, it is understandable if a commission costs more in that regard.
Felix Lu
12:31
Right. There's also the matter of the artist's time. The published work is already done.
Ron Lim
12:32
@Felix You're killing me with all these commissiona being made available at one time!
Felix Lu
12:32
We're about at the end of it! You can take a breath soon, I promise!
AnthonyF
12:32
I echo congrats on the sellouts. Your artists have some work cut out for them.
Simon B
12:32
And if the lists fill up then obviously the price was right.
@FrancisChervenak
12:32
I mean I would love a portfolio of McFarlanes and Millers. Not going to happen any time soon. lol
Felix Lu
12:33
Do you get mad at McFarlane or Miller if you can't afford to buy art from them? So silly.
Rob E
12:33
I think my only art 'complaint' would be the time Jim Lee allowed the same guy to win his giveaway on twitch 2 or 3 times. And of course the guy who tried to flip a free piece, thus ending Jim Lee's generosity and giveaways altogether.
