@Mike Not THAT Ron Lim!
Michael
4:17
Is it art specuation if you buy well but then never sell?
Felix Lu
4:18
@Michael...I suppose it could be argued that NOT selling when prices have skyrocketed is its own form of speculation...(I'm not selling either. Not because I think things will go higher, but because I'd just rather keep.)
JasonK
4:18
@felix not bad. Green on everything but hoping for a dip to get more
Mike Snitzer
4:18
Ha.. ok.. my bad!

Some very less attended auctions are great sometimes, I won a great Criminal painted cover by Sean Phillips awhile ago for less than 800 € while HA was going on :)
Felix Lu
4:19
Congrats Joao...I think I remember that auction...in France, right?
Ron Lim
4:19
@Felix John Butler sold his entire comic collection to buy art.
As an aside, I did finally pick up another childhood grail. The original Star Wars one sheet in pristine condition.
Felix Lu
4:19
@Ron...where? How much? And which style?
Mike Snitzer
4:19
@Michael: maybe if you have kids and they sell?
Casey A

Ron Lim confusion is one of my favorite running bits of these chats 😂

I use to collect slabs as well, then sold 90% of the, to help buy an engagement ring and wedding money. Haven’t purchased any new slabs since I started art collecting. Feel happy with that choice

My girlfriend is always saying to me “none of this stuff is worth anything if you don’t sell it” lol
JasonK
4:19
@michael it's just smart to try and get good value. More money for other art
Michael
4:20
@Felix - yeah me too "rather just keep". But each and every piece was bought knowing it was good art at a great price, that almost all could be flipped for 2x within 12 months or less. But when I hold it (any of them) in my hand, I just can't do it.

@Felix The Tom Jung poster. Got it from CinemaMasterpieces. They've been out of stock for month and they finally got one in last weekend. Cost double what it did a year ago, but I pulled the trigger... $6k
Felix Lu
4:21
@Ron...awesome. Congrats. I was 7 when ANH came out...huge for me, too.
Lambo
4:21
i think we should all change our names to Ron Lim.
JasonK
4:21
@morgan lol
Ron Lim
4:21
@Felix and it was PERFECT. Glossy. I was gobsmacked.
Joao Antunes
4:22
@ Felix, Thanks! Yes, I believe so, it was great, with the buyers premium it was for a lot less than very smaller (for me) pieces that were being sold at HA, it's applied the phrase "pick your battles" :)
Ron Lim
4:23
@Lambo, I can only afford this stuff because Marvel is sending me the other Ron Lim's checks.
Felix Lu
4:23
Haha!!
Lambo
4:24
@ Ron lim.  In that case, then yes marvel I AM theeee Ron Lim.
Ron Lim
4:24
I used to get invited to shows because of him. Free airfare, accomodations. I never did it though.
TJ
4:24
@Felix Yeah, UF #4 and EoS #2 have skyrocketed.  I notice the trend after the animated movie, but the last year they exploded.
Michael
4:24
My preference was always for Style D. Got mine in the mid-90s from Rick's (anybody remember them?) and was one and done on SW posters.
Felix Lu
4:25
Nothing to do with art...but an oldster like Ron might appreciate...anyone recognize these?
Ron Lim
4:25
@Michael Style D is the Struzan "circus" poster, right? I got that from the fan club when I was a kid.
Michael
4:25
BSG 1978
Ron Lim
4:25
@Felix, I used ot have the Viper.
Felix Lu
4:26
From Mattel, right?
Except these aren't...these are scaled-up fan-made vehicles to fit 3.75" figures...
Michael
4:26
@ Ron Lim yes Struzan.
Ron Lim
4:26
Probably? I also had the giant Space 1999 Eagle.
4:28
Did you guys see the new Hasbor Optimus? It's amazing. Transforms by voice command and does fighting poses by itself!
Felix Lu
4:28
I did...$800? A lot of excited/pissed-off fans, lol!
Ron Lim
4:29
So tempted, but passed.
Felix Lu
4:29
I ponied up for the Razor Crest...right before they blew it up on the show...lmao
