I was baffled others had left it behind for so long.
Sean

I recently purchased 3 pages of Lemire’s Essex county. I have a few pieces of original art now and I need to start the framing process. Anyone have suggestions on how to do it right?
Felix Lu
12:15
@Sean...simple black frame with 3" white mat
Pat L
12:15
@Felix - nope just pre-emptive thanks =)
Sean
12:15
@felix bingo!
Andy Robbins
12:15
At ECCC, and we both are Deadly Class fans
Felix Lu
12:15
@Andy...nice! There are a few hardcore collectors in WA...was hoping to meet them in person at ECCC...maybe next year!
Rudra
12:15
@Rob. If I could now
Pat L
12:16
Did people see that they are CGC'ing the Jim Lee eBay sketches now?  that seems like an odd practice?
Felix Lu
12:16
@Pat...totally unnecessary IMO...but whatever makes people happy, I guess
Rudra
12:16
@Rob. If I could nks
Andy Robbins
12:16
@Sean - don't do what I did - different frame colors, different mats, nothing consistent
Felix Lu
12:16
@Andy...I learned that same lesson myself!
Sean
12:16
@felix I’ve read that you should use museum glass etc etc
Felix Lu
12:17
@Sean...yes, if you can swing it. Better to do it right, than use substandard materials. Light can do a number on paper/art.

I apologize if many of you have already discussed this topic ad nauseam in your own personal circles, but I personally have not been able to find too much information in articles or forums. Do artist's proofs hold the same historical significance of the page contents as traditional pages? I grabbed a Dark Knights Rising DPS by Jorge Jimenez that showcases all of Greg Capullo's Dark Nights: Metal creations beautifully, but I had people belittling the piece once they learned it was created with Digital tools.
Felix Lu
12:19
@Nathan...I've discussed this before...I do not consider "artist's proofs" to be original art. In the same way that I don't consider prints to be original art. "Artist's proofs" are glorified prints. Now, they can be cool collectibles, and there's nothing wrong with collecting them...but I do not put them in the same category as original art. As always, my opinion only.

@Pat L   ugh.
Rob Rusch
12:19
@Pat I really don't understand people CGC'ing OA
Pat L
12:19
@Sean - definitely get a quality custom framer - that definitely helps.  I agree though something that is not so flashy to compete with the art
Lambo
12:19
@sean i learned that lesson as well.  i did as andy did.
Andy Robbins
12:19
Love that Lee Brainiac sketch - prob #1, with the Deadman 2nd
I was just told about museum plexi
Pat L
12:19
@Sean - museum glass is nice.  Can get expensive tho for larger pieces
Sean
12:19
@andy so the key is to stay consistent. Got it. I have two sets of sequential pages and about a dozen Spidey commissions once they all arrive. I need to formulate a Framing plan.
Rudra
12:19
Dammit. Chubby fingers. @Rob. If I could now just learn from you how you managed to retroactively hunt pages, I might be able to find a page from Silver Surfer Blake and my life would be complete

@Andy when I heard you introduce yourself to Wes and Paolo at ECCC when you were in line ahead of me I immediately lost all hope of getting the page I was going for... turns out Cristian already had it LOL!
Joao Antunes
12:20
@ all Hi, hope everyone is going well as your family and friends
Felix Lu
12:20
Hi @Joao!
Rob Rusch
12:20
When you say artist's proof, do you mean it was a 1/1 digital print with no traditional counterpart?
Lambo
12:20
@nathan m, sorry, if jorge did digital breakdowns and then inked it, it's accepted as OA. if it's all digital, i don't see how it's OA and really to me personally holds little value.
Andy Robbins
12:20
Nathan - the digital stuff is in a diff class because of the fear it could be recreated, but these things all evolve over time
Use to be that a page with sep pencils and inks was looked down on, but now as there are more and more, the stigma is less and less
Rob Rusch
12:21
I frame all my art exactly the same with archival materials and museum glass. Costs ~$300 for a 11x17
Nathan Miloslawsky
12:21
@Felix I understand! Thank you for the input!
Pat L
12:21
the worst is trying to figure out the wall space configuration!
Mark Tomlinson
12:21
@Nathan, I wouldn't personally consider Artist's Proofs original art. But they may be a comic related collectible in their own right. I feel the same about color guides(though others differ).
Felix Lu
12:22
Hey @Mark! Have been a big fan of your collection since I found CAF 15 years ago!
Andy Robbins
12:22
@sean - I would look for images of framing that you like - particulalry what a wall would look like
