@Rudra - message me on CAF and I can maybe help
Sean
12:22
@rob thanks for the framing note
Andy Robbins
12:22
Mark Tomlinson - the Burkey Whisperer!
Pat L
12:22
@Nathan - i guess it depends, since there really isn't a way to something from an artist who only works digitally but agree not the same.
Sean
12:22
Problem with framing is that I’m not sure where to get it done. I want to go the archival museum glass route but how to know who does it? That’s the question
Mark Tomlinson
12:22
@andy....shhhhhh ;o)
Brent Stringer
12:22
Museum glass all the way.
Rudra
12:22
@nathan. It’s a cool piece of art and would look good framed. But as Felix said, cool collectible. But not OA. UNLESS you digitise youself like in Tron and find the original code for the OA!!!
Felix Lu
12:23
Haha!
Mark Tomlinson
12:23
@Felix...Thanks Felix! I remember meeting you at SD Con years back. I was there to see the fight.
Felix Lu
12:23
Haha! You were?? So funny...2009, a lifetime ago.
Lambo
12:23
isn't the term artists proof a bit misleading? i thought aritsts proofs were created in the printing process for artists to check for imperfections, color, etc. what i've seen sold as artists proofs are just printouts of digital files. i feel they should be called prints
Felix Lu
12:24
@Lambo...you are correct.
It's marketing.
Andy Robbins
12:24
I have been told museum plexi has all the benefits of glass but is lighter and, of course, won't break if falls
Mark Tomlinson
12:24
I was there 2007,09, 11
Pat L
12:24
@Sean - I feel like most custom framers (eg. not the big box stores) do.  Usually the reviews etc will tell you
12:25
@Lambo but "prints" just don't sound as classy =)
Felix Lu
12:25
@Lambo...hard to justify asking price for "print"..."Artist's Proof" sounds fancier (and more expensive!)
Lambo
12:25
@pat L  true! and you can't charge as much i guess.
Nathan Miloslawsky
12:26
@Lambo, @Andy, @Mark, @Pat, thank you all for the feedback. I never had any delusions it was the same as traditional pencil and ink, but it's very interesting to hear how experienced collectors perceive them. It's just such a frustrating feeling to see an amazing page in a book for the first time only to learn it was done digitally.
Felix Lu
12:28
@Nathan...I totally understand why artist's decide to go digital...all legit reasons...but once they do, they forfeit the original art market. IMO. "Artist's Proof" is wanting their cake and eating it, too. I choose not to participate, because it's a clear line to me, even though I rep some digital guys. The artist has to have touched the paper for it to be OA to me. Again, just my opinion!
Rudra
12:28
@Rob. Would you mind dropping the link to your CAF gallery
Rob Rusch
12:28
@Nathan - The whole digital vs traditional conversation is fascinating. I think it somewhat boils down to whether we're collecting pop culture artifacts or art. I think the answer is usually both, but varies on a spectrum substantially from person to person. I try to boil it down for myself by asking - would I buy significant CGR art if it was only digital proofs? And I honestly don't know the answer to that question.
Felix Lu
12:28
@Rob...I've asked myself the same question...if WATCHMEN art was only available via prints, would I want it? And the answer for me is NO.
Nathan Miloslawsky
12:29
@Rudra, hahaha! I hear you loud and clear! :)
Lambo
12:29
i see nothing wrong with prints especially if you love the image and want it on your wall. go for it.  just not collectible for me
Felix Lu
12:30
@Lambo...yes, absolutely. I just don't like how the line is now being blurred. And @Nathan, I think it's quite telling that older collectors almost universally eschew "artist's proofs".
Nathan Miloslawsky
12:30
To be fair, the digital files in their respective resolutions are deleted upon sale, but again, yes, not the same as OA.
Felix Lu
12:30
@Nathan...you have to take the artist's word about that. I'm sure it happens, but who really knows for sure?
Lambo
12:30
@nathan m   i totally get that. hey talk to any fiona staples fan, i bet that's a thing they all live with
Andy Robbins
12:30
Nathan, so says every Aja Haweye fan
Pat L
12:31
@Nathan - I feel ya.  Definitely agonized over a few "prints" from certain artists because, yeah there is no alternative to having something from them on the wall.
Rob Rusch
Lambo
12:31
hmm, first time here for me, does everyone experience lag in texts showing up or is it just me?
Felix Lu
12:31
@Lambo...lag is due to queue.
Mark Tomlinson
12:31
@Nathan....they could be something that grows in interest as more artists use that format. But I have to have an artists actual hand in the work. For that reason I don't like blue line ar or inks done on separate paper either. Traditional pencil & ink for me.
Andy Robbins
12:31
What's the thinking on the upcoming Virtual Comic Con?
Good?  Bad? Ugly as a cabal markup?
Rudra
12:31
wonder what experienced OA collectors make of this https://www.castlefineart.com/blog/shop-stan-lees-marvel-collection
