Thanks A!

My worst experience so far was a commission that I was supposed to get at a con, taking a year to receive. I was e-mailing with the artist about once a month until I finally got it. Fortunately, I didn't pay up front.

Can I ask a loaded question? (Not sure if this is taboo)  Are there dealers that people are comfortable naming that I should NOT do business with?  Likewise, I know that supposedly there are some artists that are notorious for not following up with commissions etc, but I personally do not know who these artists are?
Felix Lu
12:17
@Pat L...let's talk soon. But in general, you can always ask.
Michael K
12:18
@Felix exactly. Had to unfollow him on Twitter. Tweets 20 times a day and it’s never about my damn commission 😂

12:18
Hi Felix.  You & your family remain in my thoughts.  Glad to see you out here today.
Felix Lu
12:19
Thanks Dan. Keeping busy helps take the mind off things. I know work isn't usually great for that, but luckily, this is comic art.

@Pat all the reps I know are great. There's only one dealer I know of with a bad rep, but I've never dealt with them so would prefer not to comment.
Michael K

@Pat L don’t have a link handy but there sites that will give you an idea. That and word of mouth should help.

I once waited 2 years for a commission.  Communication was great between us but he was just busy.  The artist did give me a page for free to make up for how late it was.

So someone asked about Cliff Chiang commissions...his last list took almost 3 year to complete. Anyone who knows Cliff knows how professional he is. Hell, I'll say that not only is he the MOST professional artist I work with, but he's one of the most professional people I've ever met, in any profession! The reason it took so long is because PAPER GIRLS happened (which, btw, was always on time, never late!). We did offer anyone waiting a refund. No one took us up on it, and in the end, everyone was happy with their art. More than ever now, I expect, as Cliff hasn't taken another list since. And as I said, unlikely to take one again for the foreseeable future.

@Pat L there is a great group on Facebook Felix is in as well that handles questions like you asked

Hey Felix and all! Glad to see another chat, even if I tend to arrive late to them!
Felix Lu
12:22
Hey Victor, better late than never!

We were speaking about hardcovers/print comics and digital comic earlier. And I appreciate that it’s not ‘real’ - just codes in the Matrix. But If I can add a contrary positive view about digital comics as it pertains art. Comic books looks AMAZING on my iPad! The colours are Bright and vibrant. To the point that it feels almost washed out or faded when I see it on the printed page!

There are certain dealers with which I won't deal because of bad experiences.

Guest:  Indeed.  If the communication is good, waiting for a commission can sometimes result in a bigger effort by the artist.  Not all the time, but definitely sometimes.

@Pat L sorry I didn't type the name - its SketchPrices - Comic Book Sketches Comissions and Autographs - that is where I fist hear about Felix as well

Is it cool to post our CAF gallery link here?
Felix Lu
12:23
Go for it!

Random question: Anybody know if one is to pay sales tax on a 100% charity auction on eBay?
Victor B.
12:24
Trying to catch up on the conversation but from my brief experience, Felix and his group are by far the best when it comes to commissions, hence me trying to get a piece from everyone from his team and actually multiple from most now!
Felix Lu
12:24
Thanks as always, Victor!
Jason K
12:24
Sup Victor!
Rick Yankosky
12:24
Speaking of Cliff... how satisfying was the conclusion of Paper Girls?  I ❤️ it.

Felix Lu
12:25
Ah...wasn't sure which Brent you were!

Hey Jason!

I've had great experiences with all of my commissions through Felix, including one that is going to create a really addictive problem for the foreseeable future.
Felix Lu
12:26
Would love to hear about that!
Rudra
12:26
@ Rick Yankosky - dude spoilers!
Brent
12:26
@Felix - The best one obviously....
Felix Lu
12:26
The best Brent in today's chat, yes!

Because of this beauty (which I still owe Felix a high res scan of), I'm developing a list of 80s & 90s UXM cover recreations.  I've got like 30 potential on the list so far.  https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1619744
Felix Lu
12:28
Wow...that's gonna be a fun project! Look forward to seeing which other covers you choose...
12:29
@Dan T...did you see the Geoff Shaw recreation of Jim Lee's X-MEN #1 4X cover?
12:31
Rick Yankosky
12:31
@Rudra apologies for my satisfaction  😉.  I meant to say it was terrible, just terrible.
Malvin
12:31
@Rick, not an accountant but dont see how you avoid sales tax just because its for charity
Felix Lu
12:32
Malvin, I think it depends...if donation is made directly to charity, then no?
