I think commission style depends on where you fall in the risk spectrum. Little direction gives you a chance to be totally shocked and blown away. More direction maybe limits downside disappointment

@A Kuri geez, i hope you are right. that's what i'm waiting for before i go on back to "normal" living
A Kuri

@Pat L - I usually don't direct. I feel like I want to see their creativity applied to the subject. I think I was freaking out because of the expense of the commission and my mega respect for Tradd's work. I was over-directing, being too controlling. Anyway, Felix if I can undo that foul I'd like to. :)
Felix Lu
11:57
@A Kuri...no worries, I will discuss all with Tradd. No objection to what he's seen so far, at least.
Pat L
11:57
@Felix - and that makes very appreciative of my LS HC as well!  =)
Felix Lu
11:57
Thumbs up! (How do we post emojis here anyway?)
Pat L
11:57
I do wish they would come out with a one volume HC Extremity though
Felix Lu
11:57
@Pat...fingers crossed. That's all I'll say for now;)
A Kuri
11:58
@Felix lol I own one of those Art of Bolland HCs... it is magnificent
Felix Lu
11:58
It really is! Such a shame!
Lambo
11:58
@newell turner i find letting the artist cut loose with some broad instructions is usually the way to go
Felix Lu
11:58
@Lambo...I learned from you!
Michael K
11:58
@Felix you’ve definitely changed the game. The amount of reps I’ve seen...wait for...ANNOUNCE the time & date art will drop since you’ve come on the scene has been crazy. And this is guys who’ve been around for years. You’re a pioneer! 😂
Felix Lu
11:58
Thanks Michael!

composition is a huge part of art. I would never want to compromise that part of an artist's work. Whenever I get a commission I just know I'll have to be happy with whatever the result is
Felix Lu
11:59
@Rob R...you don't have to be happy with it. But that's the nature of commissions. It's a gamble! We calculate the odds beforehand to decide if the gamble is worth it. You're not going to win everytime, you just gotta win most of the time.

emojis seem to be banned

Any word on who else is dropping art for the auctions?
Felix Lu
12:01
Not hard to deduce if you look over what's already been offered, and then the rest of the roster;)
Rob R
12:01
@Felix - yea, not happy per se, but accepting
Felix Lu
12:01
Yes, that's right, accepting.

👍🏽@PatL Emojis seem to work just fine

Can we get Bryan or Leslie to bless us with some commissions soon?
Felix Lu
12:02
That would really be quite something, wouldn't it? Leslie's only taken ONE commission list ever, and Bryan has taken NONE. So no promises other than I'm always working on them. Fingers crossed.

This year, I received a direct commission with a movie related subject where I specifically asked the artist not to use photo reference for the actors; I wanted to see what he could do with the subject in his style.  I get the commission: all obvious photo reference.
Felix Lu
12:03
Is it consistent with his other work? Meaning, does he usually use photo references for this type of subject?
Jason K
12:03
I think there's very little let down risk with the Felix guys as far as commissions. The past results speak for themselves
Felix Lu
12:04
Thanks Jason! We're super-proud of the track record. Our guys have too much pride to just hack stuff out. A part of that is that they appreciate they're getting higher-than-average rates; they want to earn it, and keep earning it. So far, so good.
Brent
12:07
@Felix Maybe here and there, but I would have thought he wouldn't have leaned so heavy into when I asked to see his style rather than a studio's still photographer's.
Felix Lu
12:08
@Brent...did you say anything? It's a tough one. Was the art OK, otherwise? Did you feel you got a legitimate effort overall, at least?
Brent
12:11
I didn't say anything.  I generally kind of feel like a jerk complaining about a commission; I've only done it once and got ignored in return.
Felix Lu
12:12
It really depends on the situation. I've been disappointed before, too, for various reasons. But if I felt like the artist honestly tried, at least, then I could still live with it. There are never any guarantees with these things, and we have to understand/accept that going in.
Pat L
12:12
@Brent - ugh that stinks.  sorry man
TomFranck
12:12
Brent:  I had something similar happen with photo reference on a commission.  As Felix said, it's always a gamble.
Pat L
12:12
Agree that all of the commissions from Felix's guys have been great!
Felix Lu
12:12

Had a commission due in December. Never follows up. Empty promises. I know people wait years, and in some cases get nothing at all, but it sucks.
Felix Lu
12:15
As collectors, we just want decent communication. Majority of us are patient and understanding. But you (the arist or rep) has to let us know what's going on when we ask. It really should be simple.
A Kuri

Gotta hop back to work. Need to fund the habit. Glad to see you back in the saddle. I am sure you will take time off whenever you need to let your heart heal. We all got your back 100%! Holler if you need anything. We want some Hellblazer pages broh...
