@Casey Samnee is worth every penny keep trying

@Joe my grail piece was a full page Domino splash by Rob (Liefeld)...@felix was my bidding consultant on it. His advice? Bid what you're comfortable with and hope Kirkman doesn't want it. LOL.

@Joe I always look for pages from the Wieringo FF run and his Sensational Spidey. Those were a few of my first issues that I bought at my LCS as a kid. Pure nostalgia and how I wanted the world to be. Not sure that meets the "personal" bar... but they sure felt personal to me!

@Jason...was going to text you the other night while I was packing art, then realized how late it was...anyway, the interview with Christina Merkler was excellent. She's all business. Which is a good thing in this industry. Very impressed by her!
Casey A
2:07
@matt yeah, I was delighted by the 4x6 I got of The Thing. I'll keep on it.

@Jason Kirkman’s 90’s pages are sick. It was great watching his Show & Tell.

jason - did you get it

?
Joe Lara
2:08
@Casey That qualifies!

I have a few "karma" pieces like a Buscema Avengers page and a Mike W FF page. Neither are great examplars but it feels like good karma to have them in my collection. I have a Kim Jung Gi raccoon soldier too, just because I wanted something of his. I would do the same for the likes of Darwyn and Kirby and Frank Miller...don't have anything from them yet, but even doodles of theirs are now exorbitant.

@Felix How many of DWJ’s next batch of commissions will be Star Wars related artist’s choice pieces? It’s become his signature commission and they have all been incredible
Felix Lu
2:09
@Joe...don't remember off the top of my head...it's a long list, 50+ requests...definitely more SW than Artist's Choice, though!
Jason Wood
2:09
@felix thanks! Yeah, Christina is all business and frankly the LCS owners who portray her as an enemy are silly
@Andy I did! Weirdly enough I set a high bid of $5K on the day the listing launched. I got it for $5K.
Truth be told though, I was prepared to up my bid on that last day if I need too haha

It's a relatively recent book, but I bought Snow, Glass, Apples from Colleen Doran at Dragon Con last year.  Read it that night and marched right back to her table next day and bought a few pages.  Bought more at NYCC.  The art is spectacular and she was also nice to deal with.

@felix any thoughts on the aliens to marvel announcement?  and who’s done your favorite version of the xenomorphs in the comics so far?
Felix Lu
2:10
@Rick...Marvel taking the license back now that Disney owns Fox was inevitable. Favorite published xenomorph art would be Walt!
Jason Wood
2:10
@Dan Colleen does beautiful work. Much deserved Eisner nom this year.
Andy Robbins
2:10
Good going, and sounded like you had your finger on the market there
Jason Wood
2:10
@Rick we talked about the Predator/Aliens to Marvel news on last night's episode. I assume Jason Aaron will launch the book(s) since he did so for Star Wars and Conan when they got the licenses back.
I want to know who at the Marvel HQ Mike Richardson pissed off lol
Andy Robbins
2:11
Felix - not the Scottie Young/Ryan Ottley combo?
Felix Lu
2:11
1A and 1B!
Jason Wood
2:11
@andy obsessing about obscure characters is a blessing and a curse. A blessing b/c it makes the playing field easier. A curse b/c no one is going to want to pay my wife for these pieces when she sells them after I'm off into the ether.
Andy Robbins
2:12
(which I only vaguely remember to be Aliens)
Felix Lu
2:12
@Jason...spend your kids' inheritance, and leave them the art!
Jason Wood
2:12
You get a Batman from any artist, chances are you can re-sell it or trade it. You get a Fantomex and well....you better love Fantomex. Haha.
Andy Robbins
2:12
I seem to not be able to stay with a specific character

@Jason I was able to meet Darwyn one day at a convention. He said he wasn’t taking a list that day, and was about to leave, but after we chatted for a bit, and I ranted about how his Catwoman run changed my view of comic art, he told me to stop by again in an hour. When I did he handed me a 11x14 Catwoman head sketch. I’m 38 now and plan on selling my collection in my late 60’s, but I’ll never sell that Darwyn sketch. It’s coming with me.
Felix Lu

@Joe...great story. Darwyn was known to be prickly at times, so it's very nice to hear the other side. Thanks!
Andy Robbins
2:14
Did some Black Widows for a while, then some Helas, now some Celistials
Jason Wood
2:14
Awesome story @joe
Andy Robbins
2:14
Joe - huge congrats - that's the kind of thing that is beyond special
Jason Wood
2:14
Some of my favorite moments of collecting are those micro-connections with an artist.
Jason K
2:14
Beautiful Joe!
Casey A
2:14
That's so cool. I hope we have more chances post-COVID to have experiences like those with artists we admire.
Joe Lara
2:14
@Jason @Andy Thanks! Yeah, it was a great moment.

@Jason Woos Jason Aaron would be an amazing choice. While I don't need the Aliens and Predators to enter the Marvel universe I would love to see Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman do a Predator Venom crossover.
Jason Wood
2:15
As we are chatting I just received a pick of a commission that has me crying pure tears of joy
