Maybe some of the 11:00 squad could hit ECCC next year
Andrew MacLean
1:17
@Jason oh totally. Towards the beginning of this thing, I was spooked as all hell. All the unknowns were huge!
Rob Rusch
1:17
I'm sad there was no Heroescon either :( That's the one con I can usually make it to
Jason K
1:17
Bye Ryan!
Lambo
1:17
later ryan!
Rob Rusch
1:17
@Ryan take care! keep being awesome
Reba
1:17
@andrew maclean obviously a fellow Harryhausen fan over here. Good timing for that piece with the centenary this year too
Jason Wood

I got my name from Jason and the Argonauts (my dad's favorite movie back then) so I've always noodled about a collection of Argonauts pieces. But then I remember I have to feed my Moby Dick, Domino, Fantomex, Beast, Serpent Society, Alpha Flight, Excalibur, and jam pieces habits too haha
Andy Robbins

Jason - you know Black Black Widow always has a home with me if you want to go back to the well w Mooneyham
Malvin
1:18
@Jason Wood, ah Alpha Flight, as long as you don't go after the same issues as me, keep on collecting :)
Andy Robbins

* Hope I can say "BBW" - anything Ryan Reynolds says should still be safe
Matt Todd

@ryan Stegman thanks for stopping by and the great work!! @Jason Wood totally agree about missing conventions. They were a much needed Positive recharge of geek energy. And this year has been anything but a recharge of positivity
Ben Huang
1:19
@Jason Moby Dick? Wait are you the guy who got that massive Moby Dick commission from Jim Rugg?
Jason Wood
1:20
Yeah, we had over 50 people from our podcast community ready to come to Charlotte. Would've been epic. Next year, I hope. I have this grand fantasy that the year off will bring Heroes back to greatness after a few downish years after the Adam Huges/Smoking Jacket fallout
Reba
1:20
@jason wood I'm getting a skeleton fight commish from Eric Zawadzki - can't go wrong with that film. What a great one to be named after!
Jason Wood
1:20
@Ben that would be me. I'm also the guy who has gotten amazing Moby pieces from DWJ and Riley among other Felix greats
Lambo
1:20
the problem is most of us can't go to a con unscathed even by con crud. i'm skipping cons until we get a real vaccine and not something rushed by the various self interest groups.
Andrew MacLean
1:21
@Reba oh yeah, I know there are some box sets but we need a really great Harryhausen Criterion collection or something. Filled with his drawing and whatnot too. His drawings were fantastic.
Rob Rusch
1:21
@Jason what happened with AH at heroes?
Andy Robbins
1:21
All - what are people's thoughts on the super strong auction results this year?
Jason Wood
1:21
@Reba fantastic! Eric is an awesome dude. The Fantomex he uses in his commission posts is mine.
Jason K
1:22
@andy are you talking about the charity auctions?
Rob Rusch
1:22
@Andy I'm glad the hobby's staying strong. I'm surprised by it, but happy for it to continue
Malvin
1:22
@andy robbins, I'm surprised but not surprised that price hold up.  For A+ items less of a surprise, lets see if this upcoming mediocre clink stuff holds up
Rudra
1:22
@Jason what was the Adam Hughes smoking jacket fallout ?
Malvin
1:22
other than my consignments of course, those aren't mediocre :P
Lambo
1:22
@jason k, im guessing andy meant heritage clink
Andy Robbins
1:23
Jason K - no, I meant HA/CL.  Charity ones are a different beast
I was curious about AH Smoking Jacket story too
Victor B.
1:23
@Felix, did you mention how big DWJ wall power pieces were going to be? I’m thinking I want to dip my toe in the wall power stuff from some of your team
Felix Lu
1:24
@Victor...in all likelihood, 18X24. A huge step up from the 9X12s he's been doing the last 5 years!

I snagged a great ALF Holiday Special this week on Heritage.  I couldn't resist it for the LOLZ.

@Rob too long a story for chat, and a bit aged by now, too. The the elevator pitch is...Sheldon has an art auction each year and the proceeds go back to him for putting on the con. Over the years, the pieces starting getting BIG money (tens of thousands in some cases). A crew of loyal artists who were the big ticket crew felt aggrieved and approached Sheldon about a profit share, to which he balked. That led to bad blood and all the big ticket regulars, led by AH but also including Townsend, Mark Brooks, Noto, Wrightson and others stopped going to the show. The art auction hasn't been the same since. Very few if any high end pieces and a lot of hardcore collectors skip out on the bidding now.
Lambo

i remember there was one year, a certain clique all had smoking jackets. i don't remember that it was adam hughes related
Felix Lu
1:26
Also...Allison used to be the auctioneer. Then, for whatever reason, the show brought in professional auctioneers. Totally different vibe. Not as fun anymore, but a longshot.
Andy Robbins
1:26
The gajin guys would all get dressed up the first night of the show
was quite a sight
Jason Wood
1:26
The smoking jackets were for a handful of years. Basically once you had a piece go for more than $5,000 you were given a jacket by whoever ran it (Adam and Townsend I believe started it) but then it trickled down and a few of the big collectors (not artists) also started wearing them. It became a bit offputting as it was a "boys club" feel.
Andy Robbins
1:26
that HC auction was always the best
Rob Rusch
1:26
@jason thanks for sharing! I hadn't heard of that. I didn't realize the proceeds for the auction all went to the show
