Thanks Jason! That was Phase 1! What I've really tried to do is bring in new people from everywhere. Young, old, doesn't matter. But young whenever possible. 11 O'Clock Comics Podcast has been huge in bringing awareness to original art, as well, of course.

@Jason & @Rob - I've found myself focused on the newer art, even when I don't read the book at first because it's great stuff and it's at potentially the lowest long term value.

That rule comes from a Philly show where I was trying to decide between two Mignola pieces.  Was holding them both, and put them down to step back a few feet.  Then another collector walked up, picked them both up and started looking at them.

@rob I've only sold art once to fund a larger purchase. And it was painful. I envy the generation of collectors like Andy and Felix who got into the game about a decade earlier. They were so used to HAVING to trade to get what they wanted it's made them far better at arbitraging value.

So UI'm there thinking "It's okay, it's okay, I'll just buy the one he doesn't"  And he bought both

Agreed with @Tim - thought more about doing some literary commissions from folks - maybe a Cask of Amontillado, or a piece from Invisible Man or something. Something a little different than my usual Marvel fare. I wonder if artists appreciate those requests more.

@felix as you know I consider my superpower to be finding artists early. I'm so proud to say I own art from most of your stable before you repped them.

You are an amazing talent scout, for sure. I bet you're pretty good at fantasy sports, too, lol

I've found myself picking up books because of discovering the artists via Felix or other reps.  I need to finish reading House of Penance, but it's on the rack because I discovered Ian Bertram through Felix.

A couple years later, I met him through common collecting friends, and was able to trade for one of the two pieces

@Jason and @Andy are speaking so much truth I wish I had something more to add I am just sitting here shaking my head in agreement

As to EOC...fun story, I fell in love with Victor Santos' art recently and lined up six pieces with him plus bought some pages from his gallery in France. Fast forward and my podcast crew has given him more than 50 commissions. He's...very grateful. LOL.
Having done a podcast for 13 years and nearly 700 episodes, I was never as nervous as when I appeared on Felix' show. Yams is imposing! lol
Felix Lu
1:41
@Jason...Andy is an early fan of Victor's, too!
Andy Robbins

I then flipped the script and used that situation against a rookie Jon Mankuta 15 years or so ago.
1:42
Not me, Felix
Felix Lu
1:42
I remember talking about him with you!
Jason Wood
1:42
@andy I didn't know you were a Santos collector? What a mensch that guy is.
Jason K
1:42
@andy I wish you stepped back to think about a certain pope cover a year or so ago
Andy Robbins
1:42
I think you're thinking of Walta
Felix Lu
1:43
No...Victor Santos. You liked his chiaroscuro style...Miller-esque.
Andy Robbins
1:43
Jason - that's the craziest thing - I had no idea anyone else even remembered that piece let alone cared about it
1:44
hrmmmmm
Ah - yes - right - of course
He's an interesting take on the sin city style
I've fallen off a bit from him
Much in the way my memory seems to have fallen off :)
Jason Wood
1:44
Well, I've grabbed the baton lol
1:45
Just ordered a piece from Oeming, too. I'm all about that Timm/Cooke school right now. Also have a piece coming from Elsa Charretier (November)
Andy Robbins
1:45
Is the Polar series any good?  It's Netflix, right?
Josh Hall
1:45
All - any here Rob Guillory OA collectors by chance?
Jason Wood
1:45
Still don't have a Timm Domino. Someday.
Felix Lu
1:46
Jason, have you put in a word with Albert? It's a long waiting list...
Jason Wood
1:46
Haven't watched the Polar movie. It got awful reviews.
@josh I have a Rob commission but not pages.
Casey A
1:46
I love Elsa's work. I have a commission and a Black Panther cover coming from her. Really digging her style.
Andy Robbins
1:46
Jason - and you don't have a real Mooneyham Domino either.  Just sayin...
Rick Yankosky
1:46
How did Santos’ work translate to whatever Netflix did w Polar?  Or is it just another flick?
Jason Wood
1:46
@felix I've never spoken to Albert directly. He doesn't know me from Adam and I always feel weird because even though most of Artist Alley sees me as a whale of sorts (LOL), I'm such a guppy in the Albert ecosystem
Felix Lu
1:48
Yeah, but that's everyone except for 3 guys, lol. Introduce yourself...you may be surprised!
